Jini loped along through the golden sea of grass along the borders, trying to distract his uneasy mind. He had never felt like this before...so disconnected, so unable to relate to others around him. It made his heart ache and his head spin. It felt like the world was moving without him and he was unable to follow. He paused, bringing his already slow pace to a stop. He lifted his head slightly with a sigh as he glanced at the sky, a sad, shy smile on his maw. Well...he supposed he'd have to cope somehow.

Cool air rushed through his fur as he was hit by a breeze, brushing his growing mane in his face. It was such a nice day...he really shouldn't be spending it musing over things he couldn't control. So he started walking agian, this time looking less like he was dragging his feet.

As Jini continued to drag himself through the grass, a familiar pair of eyes caught onto his moving form. Although she hid much more secretively as a cub, the adolescent lioness still managed to keep unseen by those paying little mind. As the female looked over the male nearby, she realised he somehow seemed familiar. Keeping low to the ground, the female slowly eased herself in his direction, aiming to get a better glance. The many years on her own had taught her to be incredibly quiet when wishing to be unseen. Stealth was all a lone hunter had to offer when it came to tracking down prey.

When the female had managed to near herself close enough to be certain of whom it was, she almost did not believe her eyes! Jini! It was impressive in its own that Shiri remembered the young cub when they had met months and months passed, but she had never sincerely thought she would run into him again.

Thinking over what she could possibly say to him, the female wondered if it would even be wise to step forward. How had she treated him when they were young? Hadn't she run away from his company? Releasing a nervous sigh, the female took a bold move and stepped out from the grass before her mind could convince her otherwise. By her unique pattern of dark stripes upon her form, it would be difficult to mistake Shiri for anyone other than herself.

Jini was not the most attentive of lions, at least when it came to hunting and such. He could manage it, but it was never really something he was talented at. So when Shiti began to creep near the grass nearby he didn't even notice. In fact, when she came out of hiding he didn't see her at first. It was only when he turned to change his direction did he catch sight of her. He jumped, startled, surprise alight in his eyes.

He knew who she was instantly. Like his mother, he never forgot a face. His white ears flickered back shyly, embaressment alight on his face for being caught so unawares. He did, however, offer a genuine, if sheepish, smile, "A-ah! S-Shiti...?"

User Image Shiri giggled lightly as Jini jumped up from surprise. It felt good to laugh as the lioness could not remember the last time she had been in such a light mood. Having been wandering some months alone, she had found herself in a wonderful situation, bumping into a familiar face. Looking him over once again, Shiri was shocked by what she saw. Apparently the time away had certainly done quite a bit to the male. Last she remembered of Jini, he was a very small cub, possibly even smaller than herself. Though she was shocked by Jini's growth, she would have been shocked by herself as well, had she been able to see how large she had become as well!

A bright smile spread across the female's face as she realised Jini remembered her! Jumping forward, playfully, the female found herself acting in ways she had never done before. The male's expression was absolutely priceless and the lioness felt proud for being able to stalk the male so unaware! Laughing lightly, she finally spoke, "Jini! I can't believe it's really you! I never thought i'd see you again!"

"Y-yeah!" Jini agreed, still feeling rather surprised himself. By the way she had run off the last time they had met he hadn't thought she'd ever return. In all honesty, he had been a little worried she had run away because of him or something. His memory of the whole meeting wasn't very good...and he didn't recall if he had done anything stupid or not. He closed his eyes and tilted his head as his shy smile remained, "I'm really glad to see you again!"

User Image Shiri blushed at the words Jini spoke. She never thought it over before, but it really did mean a lot to her to think that someone would be glad to see her. Smiling widely, the female pushed their conversation on, speaking in a much more excited manner than she ever had in the past, "I'm so glad you feel that way!" Her tail swayed about her as she spoke, giving off her clear excitement, "I am so sorry Jini.. about.. when we were younger. I mean.." And as though she knew he worried a bit of her departure, she felt a need to explain herself, "..It wasn't you or Kazi." The lioness impressed herself with the memory of those she met in the far past, "..You both showed such a great kindness to me and I wish I could have repaid you with more than I had.. Thank you... Our short lived friendship affected me more than you know.."

Ah! So it hadn't been his fault? Well...at least that's what she said. He'd believe her though. Thinking the best of people always came first with the young male...even before thinking well of himself. Perhaps that was his problem. Anyway...he was glad to see her again. And glad to see that she wasn't disappointed in seeing him. "N-no! It's fine," He asured her with a tilt of his head and a soft smile that reached his eyes, though it was still rather reserved. He just never changed, it seemed. He was still as shy as he had been as a cub. "I'm glad to see...you're doing and...and are happy...I hope?"

User Image Shiri let out another soft laugh as Jini continued to speak to her in a manner that very much reminded her of when they were cubs. It was certainly clear that, other than his size, Jini did not change at all. Feeling more comfortable knowing that the male did not remain upset with her, Shiri was able to offer a white lie to Jini's question. Was she happy? Happiness was certainly something that rarely came to the femme, but considering her current mood, she would not test upsetting the male by admitting the truth. A light nod was all Shiri did to answer Jini's question. Quickly after, she put the spotlight on the male in order to take it off of herself, "And yourself? You look well!" And with an even broader smile, the female asked, "You have remained a part of the pridelands, right?" And more softly, she continued, "..Are the pridelands well?"

Somehow...Jini felt more concerned by her short reply then anything else. He was unable to hide it, being the open young male that he was. But he wasn't sure he felt familiar enough to her to demand an answer. If she was unhappy and didn't want to say...it would be rude for him to demand her to explain or anything. And he tried, above all else, to go out of his way to make sure he didn't make others unhappy or to help in any way he could.

And her question...didn't make things better. He certainly wasn't going to burden her with his inner worries. He offered a half-smile, "Ah...well...yes. I remained. Things are good...! Um...I guess I feel just a little overwhelmed lately...so much is happening I mean...not that it's bad...just...change I suppose." He finished lamely, knowing already that was probably more then he needed to say. No wonder he had tripped over his own words.

User Image By the expression Jini wore, Shiri could tell he had sensed something strange about her. It was somewhat unsettling to see that she had made an old friend feel so awkward already. With a light laugh, the femme tried to warm the air between them. As she looked over the male still, she couldn't help but remember back to their first meeting. Though Jini was much younger then, Shiri was certain she had made him awkward then as well. But back then Shiri would never have guessed it would have mattered; she never expected to see him again!

Now that Jini was talking about, Shiri was able to sense a sort of discomfort in his own words. Smiling warmly, the lioness leaned forward to brush up against the male. During her entire life, this had been the first real affection she had showed towards anyone, but somehow, it seemed like the right thing to do at that time. "Don't worry about me Jini.. I hope you can feel comfortable enough to be honest..." It might have been strange to be so comfortable with the other already, but in comparisson to those Shiri had in her life, Jini truly stood out above the others. "I'd ask what type of changes are going on, but I don't want to pressure you.."

Jini flushed a little at her affectionate gesture. But his smile gained a little strength, for he could sense the ties of an old friendship. It had been brief and they had been young, but that thread was still there and it was hard to ignore. He shook his head, feeling a little more comfortable but still rather bashful, "No...it's just...family changes I guess. I'm ok." He offered a warm look shyly, "You know...you can share any thoughts with me too...I mean...if you want..." His voice trailed off.

User Image Although Shiri was certain Jini still held back information from her, she respected his privacy and hoped that he would do the same in the same situation. With a smile, she cherished the trust he had given to her and the friendship he showed in his offer to listen if the lioness, herself, needed to speak. Looking up towards the sky, Shiri thought for a moment. So many thoughts had went through her mind growing up and never had she been given the situation to speak to another about it. Why had her parents abandoned her as just a kitten? Had the great Gods used it as a way to test her and make her into a stronger lioness? Perhaps she was destined for great things, despite the difficultly of her life? With a shake of her head, she returned her gaze to Jini and smiled, "No.. nothing I can think of really." Her own cheeks were pink and although Shiri did not speak of the worries that constantly plagued it, it was wondreful to know that she had someone to speak to.

Jini didn't want to dump this problems on Shiri, especially since they really...didn't seem all that important. And since it was possible something was bothering her as well, even if she would not express it to him, his troubles were the last thing she needed. Perhaps that was how she saw it too and why she didn't share her worries with him. "Oh...ok..." He offered a sheepish, but supportive smile, "I'm glad."

User Image Shiri continued to smile, pleased to know that Jini was there for her, despite their obvious silence with one another. Glancing off towards the distance in her attempt to lighten the mood, Shiri thought of a better conversation. The thought of the pridelands continued to remain in her mind, however and she could not help ask Jini one last question.

"So... even though problems are occuring, will you remain in the pridelands throughout your life?" Shiri knew she was prying too much in the lion's life, but she only asked to see if this friend of hers would be there if and when she was able to join the pride, herself. It would be wonderful to join into a pride where one already had friends and fam...Shiri could be happy with friends.

Jini nodded his head, "Yeah...I really like it here...I doubt I'd ever leave, especially not for good." He had wandered outside the borders before, that was true, but never very far. He wasn't the adventurous type like his mother. He loved his homeland and his family and friends were here...he didn't know why he'd ever want to leave. He tilted his head to one side slightly, peering with shy curiousity at her, "What about you...? Will you leave again...?"
