(I saw this thread in another book forum.) What do you use for bookmarks?
I've used band-aids, credit card bills, pictures, a dislocated clothing tag, a barbie doll purse, and just about anything around. What about you?

I dogear, damnit, and I am proud. Bookmarks annoy me for some reason. When I do use one it's always the receipt from Half Price Books.

That makes me cringe. My mother would have beaten me if I ever dogeared a book. eek I never wrote or highlighted in mine (even my college books), never cracked a spine, and if I bent a page by accident, I'd stack like 10 books on top of the offending one just to straighten it out again.
I guess that's a little extreme, but my mother was rather strict when it came to books.

Oh, I write all over my books. Notes in the margins, unerlines on the page, funny illustrations of metaphors that don't make any sense, and that sort of thing. Most of my books are in a horrible shape, but I still love them. and besides, I buy them from the Half Price Bookstore, so most of them weren't that great to begin with.

I dogear, please avoid lynching me until I can finish this post. Lately, I've been using the end of a plane ticket that you keep. It actually works pretty well, and if you're really desperate, it makes an okay conversation starter. Well, kind of.

Belive it or not I use Bookmarks you know the ones you buy from the shop biggrin .Sometimes I use tisuse coz my bookmark fell behind the bed and it's 4:00 in the morning but I normal have a book mark on hand and if not i just remeber the page number. Gezz Now I feel odd, I'm the only one on here that buys them eek , Although I get a discount and love all the saying on them... and I think I'll just shut up.

I have them. Sometimes I use them. Other time I dog ear, or just memorize what page I am on, but that's a dangerous route!

Fairgrass That makes me cringe.
I'm that scrict and crazy about my books too. I have over a thousand books and so quite often I get used as a library by my friends. My strict rules for oving my books annoys the heck out of them. I can't even stand it when I see others abusing their own books. I want to run over there and save the book. As for book marks? I have some storebought ones, but most of the time its whatever I can find. Often random tickets, pieces of paper, receipts. That sort of thing. if it doesn't mar the book in anyway, I'll use it.
