Over the past month or so, I've become active in attempting to cut down on spam. In the past I've seen "newbies" and an ocassional "N00b", but honestly, in the month I've been active reading up on potential repeat threads and having them moved, it really starts to boggle my mind HOW people could possible be that dim. Spamming threads (sometimes two or more at once), they almost ALWAYS are one line threads, with the following subjects:
"mario is cool" "halo sux, and ur suptd 4 not thinking that!" "NE1 EXCITED FR HALO2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" "WOTS UR FAVORTE GAME?" etc...
I mean, what are their hopes? Do they think by writing something like "mario is cool" will get people in their thread to have massive conversations about how cool mario is? I have no idea.
As well, here are some traits I've noticed "N00bs" to have.
1. Spamming of smiley faces: (at least 10 of them, usually xd faces in a row) 2. HORRIBLE SPELLING AND GRAMMAR: I don't care how old you are, even a FIVE year old can have a decent conversation. 3. Completely ignoring already established threads, STICKIES and SUBFORUMS... Repeatedly. 4. Fanboyism: (I already had a thread here about this topic), but insisting that anyone who disagrees with them "is gay" (use of derogitory terms as well a clear indicator) 5. Use of broken english/ L33T SPEAK: "N00bs" also tend to frequently use the following:
UR=your WOT= what NE=any U=you etc...
Though, I think the one clear indicator of a N00b that stands alone without other factors is
6. complete and utter disrespect for other users: Users out there who flame, cheat, make fun of, and attack other users without provocation or a clear reason. Essentially, if you're an a*****e to everyone for no good reason, no matter how many posts you have written, you qualify as a N00B (in my mind). Congratulations.
ANYWAYS, while the only solution at the moment, is to have these particular user's spam threads moved, and flaming them only results in further unecessary provocation. Hopefully, these members will move on to torment some other webforum, leaving the respectful, intelligent gaians I've come to know.

any other ideas? Contributions to what 'defines a n00b'?

Waaaay back when in teh Neopets forum, there were n00bs. Lots of 'em. One way you could tell was when they mixed the two terms up, and when you tried to correct them, they flame you. Basically what I think is a n00b is a person that:
-Flames -Trolls -Isn't a newbie that unintentionally did it.
I don't think illiterate people would be 'n00bs'. They could have problems in real life that may prevent them from typing correctly, or it could be just 'cause they don't want to. Doesn't make 'em a n00b, in my opinion at least.

There is one more thing, they usually resort to flaming you through PMs if you get their thread put into the recycle bin. sweatdrop I've had that happen 3 times so far. gonk

I think more than a few people in the guild need to learn when to and not to goof off in a thread. But that's just my opinion. sweatdrop

It's not harming the conversation, so I see no problem with it Rolf. Are you working with the Sig Police as a side job, BTW? I've seen you comment on two thus far. xp

There's a sig police? Christ i do it on my own. I've got a nice list going that I keep adding to and submitting to a mod I know. All from getting pissed off one day. On topic: this is old and such and slightly abrasive and more geared towards anime fangirls...but I'm amazed at how well noobs fit into some of this: Quote: and now.....A whimsical analysis of fangirl language! This is completely in jest...god take a joke, please ! Recipie for "Rabid" Fangirl (fanboy) Speak
You will need: A blender A disreguard for other's opinions (can be optional in some very small cases) A paper bag Matches A victim (read: the rest of Gaia) Ingriedients that will be mentioned...
Start with a clean blender. Add in bandwagon fandom and two parts mild knowledge of the series. Stir in shallow opinions and a blatant disreguard for reality outside of the said series; including but not limited to, unhealthy affection for certain male characters. Sprinkle in even amounts of: Netspeak (L337, AOL-ese, etc.) Simple Japanese words and phrases Horrible spelling and typos
Add in heaping spoonfuls of Exclaimation marks and emoticons and capital letters. Cover the blender and set to puree for about as long as it takes for them to type their posts times 5 (read: 3 minutes). Pour into paper bag and set on your victim's doorstep. Use the matches to set fire to it, ring the doorbell and run.
Congradulations! You've made something no one will care to remember, and will most likely lose ample amounts of faith in you as a human for! Next time, I'll show you all how to make adorable centerpieces out of comicly tragic n00b posts!

They deactivated my siggy. I loved my siggy too. Also, what does it frekin matter? If there are 5 people who post in a topic, all have 500X500 sigs, whats the diffrence if someone had 526X217 or something and another guy had a 200X250! I think its stupid. and it shouldn't exist. and if people want to see the signatures, then just wait for them. Its stupid, the stupidest thing on gaia id say.
