Janja was curled up comfortably with her sisters, beside their mother, beside their father. However, tonight the eldest cub was having some trouble getting to sleep. She tried to stay still, but her tail seemed most restless. The only way to calm her tail was to roll over. Rolling over only kept her more awake and aware of how awake she was, and she was starting to realize she just was not tired. She sighed quietly and blinked open one small blue eye.
Everyone looked like they were asleep. Janja's other eye opened and she lifted her head up, looking around the clearing they resided in. The water and trees looked different in the dark than they did in the light, and it had different sounds- if one listened carefully enough to hear over the waterfall. This, unfortunately, gave the curious cub an idea- to go find out why the jungle made different sounds. There must be some different things out at night.
With a grin, Janja slowly got to her feet.

"Where are you going?" The chubby cub yawned a greeting at her sister rolling over quietly, accidentally kicking their blue litter mate in the stomach, with a grumbled shy sorry she stood looking at her eldest sister. She admired Janja, she liked the stripped markings along her tail, she wished they looked more alike.
Jedi had peeped open her big eyes the moment her sister rolled over, she was curious to see why her sister had gotten up, and completely oblivious to the sounds of the jungle. She liked the sound of the water, and that's what mattered to her; it lulled her to sleep like a mother's purring.
She never once questioned what was out in the great world she called home. Daddy, mommy, and sisters were all that she needed, and getting dirty of course. Her pelt was crusted with mud. She was simple minded at best.

Janja stumbled a couple steps away from her sister in surprise when she heard the yawned question. She turned around sharply and hissed, "Shh!" After the initial surprise wore off, Janja looked much more pleasant- it was only smart to have someone with you in case of an emergency, why not see if Jedi wanted to come?
"I'm going to look around, I can't sleep," she explained in a hushed voice, glancing over at their sleeping parents and sister. None of them stirred, so she went on, "Do you want to come with me? It'd be safer to go in pairs, you know." This came with a matter-of-fact nod, but she clearly had no problem going alone if Jedi didn't want to go with her.

"Look around, why not wait for mom and dad?" she whispered, catching on that Janja did not want to be caught on her little expedition. Jedi half walked half stumbled to her sister's side and looked over at her questioningly.
"Why not wait until morning, I'm sure if you lay down a little longer that you'll fall asleep," she let out a soft yawn at the end of her sentence. She was a pudgy and lazy cub it seemed.
She looked around, what could her sister possibly want to look at in the dark?

"Mom and dad might not let us go in the dark, and I want to go explore," Janja explained calmly in the same hushed voice, "It sounds different than in the morning, I want to find out why." Her explanation was very simple. The answer was clear, but the details were not. It was different because it was dark, and different animals would come out in the dark than in the light. She wanted to find these animals.
"You don't have to come," she said calmly, but her voice turned to more of a warning when she continued, "But don't wake anyone up." Janja did not want to be caught, she would forgive Jedi if she tattled, but she wouldn't be happy about it. With that, she turned around and darted for the trees- part of her hoping Jedi would follow.

Janja's hope was answered as Jedi sluggishly followed her chubby belly swaying back and forth with each step. Truth be told the dark pelted lioness was scared to death to leave the comfort if her mother and father. She really was just that simple minded, and it needed to be repeated.
"You sure nothing will get us?" she looked up at the looming trees apprehensively. Things lived in the trees, that was for sure. Taking into consideration what Janja had said she 'opened' her ears a little more and was surprised to hear things besides the waterfall. The caw of a bird and the scratching of small feet floated to her ears and her interest perked.
"What's that?"

Janja's ears flattened against her head when Jedi followed after her, giving her good warning that she'd indeed been followed. It put a smile on the cubs face, "Nothing will get us. We've got a lot of black fur, it shouldn't real hard to hide." She wasn't positive that nothing would get them, but she had confidence and the knowledge that saying otherwise might scare off her sister. Janja turned back to her sister and smiled fondly, before leading them further away from the waterfall.
"It sounds like there are lots of birds and other stuff around," she murmured. She wasn't sure what would be out at night, but she was aware that things other than lions had paws, and that there were a lot of different looking birds. There was a shuffling of leaves above them that startled Janja into slowing down a bit, but it was probably just a bird.

The sounds in the trees were made mostly by nocturnal birds, but when they were a decent distance away from the waterfall there was another strange sound in the leaves. Lazing about on a low branch of one of the trees was a pale feline figure with blue eyes that shone in the light that came from through the canopy. Mleli had been in a cranky mood ever since her last encounter with a lion, one that was quite clearly insane and wanted to take over the jungle. Without any more friendly encounters since, she's only had herself to become less and less pleased over lions and the arrogance she was again at assuming they all had.
Needless to say, she was not overly pleased to spot two lion cubs wandering around the jungle. It was, in her unhappy mood, a sign that lions were not only coming to the jungle but reproducing in it, populating it. As hard as they could have been to spot, they weren't being cautious enough and Janja in particular stood out. Her mostly white face and legs were more obvious than Jedi.
"Hmph," she grumbled to herself, getting to her feet and leaping gracefully from the tree. The leopardess was even pleased to find she landed properly, it was not always that she managed to land so perfectly. In her opinion, anyway. With her nose held high, she looked down at the cubs, "What are you two doing here?"

"Alright, I trust you," she gave her sister a cheesy grin and looked glanced around in the trees her heart pounding with excitment. "Birds, I can see those any old day! If I'm going to get in trouble for wandering I want to see something exciting!"
Jedi's prayers seemed to be answered as well as the leopardess leaped from the trees. The little black cub dropped to the ground, her belly squishing into the soft earth. Her paws flew up over her head and she peered out large eyed at the pale creature infront of her, "J-j-janga..m-m-monster!" She squealed like a prey animal looking from her sister to the "monster."

Janja glanced back and grinned at Jedi when she commented on wanting to see something more exciting than birds. That sounded like much more fun than worrying about their little adventure. While she was grinning, though, she felt a rush of air nearby as Mleli leapt from the tree and landed just over a foot away from her.
"Ee!" she screeched, leaping back in surprise. Despite being older than Jedi, if only by minutes, Janja was definetely more easily frightened- at least Jedi kept her voice down. Her head was turned sharply to get a look at what she'd evaded, staring wide-eyed and curiously at the strange white and brown creature before them.
It looked .. kind of like Narcissus, only .. not like Narcissus.

Mleli was pleased with the effect her landing had on the two lion cubs. She almost thought that perhaps lion cubs at least still had some respect, until Jedi called her a monster. This drew a hiss from the leopardess, and she crouched a bit lower to look them in the eye. She'd adequately scared them, but neither had answered her question.
"What are you doing here?" she asked again.

"W-w-we're exploring, it was my fault, promise!" Jedi stood slowly her wide blue eyes staring up at the 'monster' her heart pounding in her chest. She was not going to let her older sister take the fall, she loved her after all.
"We'll leave if you want, but can I ask a question?" without waiting she asked, "What in the name of the stars are you?" she blinked a few times looking up into the large creatures eyes.
"I told you we should have went back to sleep," she edged towards Janja protectively, whispering out of the corner of her mouth.

"Jedi!" Janja gasped, narrowing her eyes at her little sister. It was a nice gesture, but now was not a time to be independant. Face to face with a 'monster' was the time to work together! Too bad Jedi didn't realize it. Instead, Janja made it known by falling back to stand with her sister- it was quick since Jedi moved to her as well.
"Don't panic," she whispered to Jedi tensely. She didn't say anything else to the stranger. Jedi covered the basics, and further communication might annoy her more..

Mleli's mood went up ever so slightly when Jedi answered and immediately offered to leave, should she be granted one question. She took a moment to stare the cubs down, her tail swaying madly behind her. The white of Jedi's face stood out nicely, and looked somewhat familiar to the leopardess. A glance to the cubs side revealed golden spots, and reminded her of the gold on the other cub.
Clearly they were related, and this dark one with spots looked a lot like a lion she'd met before. That lioness couldn't possibly have had cubs, could she?
"I'm a leopard, young ones," she answered with an obviously superior tone, it was clear she intended to impress upon the youngsters that leopards are better than lions, "Were you born in this jungle?"

"B-born here, yes," she glanced at her sister and then refocused her eyes on the leopardess, "Leopard, huh? Do you have a pride?"
Her eyes twinkled with intrigue looking at the larger cream colored creature. Jedi's first idea about going into the jungle ws indifference and fear, but now? She wanted to know more! There were big cat like things here, and probably animals she had never seen!
"Janja, what should we do?" she looked at her sister, trying to will her to say they should leave, come back another day, during the day.
