The hour was early morning when the night was still heavy though predawn was soon on its cusp. The ports of Cephei were dead, every decent shu having long gone to bed and even the shadier ones having found random alleys and corners to sleep off their drunken stupors. Wrapping her warm woolen cloak around her shoulders tighter against he early morning chill that had rolled in from the sea, Covet made her way silently through the streets from the portal. She kept herself alert in the off chance someone was still around, but made her way safely to Mecca's home.
Slipping inside silently, she made her way to his shop and set a large wrapped item on his worktable. She knew he was not expecting her for another few days, but this item had been much too obvious to keep at Veronica. As she turned to walk out of the shop, her eye caught the dull glint of a steel box set on a shelf. She stared at it for a long moment, unable to resist what she knew was inside. She started to walk towards the box, but had yet to learn the word that would unlock it, so she paused. Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to look away.
Stepping back out into the house, she took off her cloak and tossed it carelessly onto a chair as she made her way to the winding wooden staircase. Soundlessly she made her way up them and into his room. Making herself comfortable, she lifted the covers and slipped under them to snuggle up against his warm back, bracing herself in case he woke.

Mecca heard Covet coming up the stairs. he had always been a light sleeper. Outside the covers it was cold, the chill crept over his skin and gave him a welcome chill as she climbed in beside him, blocking it.
He smirked. Making a sudden movement to roll over and pin her swiftly to the matress. "An early bird." He said softly, watching her with a predatory glint in his eye. "You have the day off?"

She had just started to close her eyes when he suddenly turned on her and with a racing heart she looked up into his eyes through a mask of calm. Taking a deep breath, she let it out slowly and a coy smirk slipped over her lips.
"Yes," she replied, watching him closely.

Mecca released her hands and stretched the sleep from his wings, folding his arms across his crimson chest. "And what makes you think I wish to see you?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "I could have had company you know and you come round uninvited, not very good form is it my little lark?"

Covet arched her brow as he released her and sat back. At his words, she couldn't stop the soft snort of laughter as she arched her brow further and kept her eyes on his. "I was under the impression that I was the only one you entertained. How foolish of me," she smirked, reaching out to run her hands up along his thighs to his waist. "I shall try give you warning next time." She paused a moment to watch her hands against his darker skin in the pale light, then looked back up to his eyes. "Do you not wish to see me?" she asked.

"You are." He smirked stretching his wings again and flopping to the side to lay next to her. "It's the principle of the thing."
Yawning he stretched catlike in the bed and stared up at the embroidered canopy. "I might wish to see you." He said flatly. "It depends on whether you bring me anything of interest and what you had in mind for us to do. I'm not going to eat any of your disgusting food again."

Covet smirked at his reply to her assumption and watched him flop over rather uncharacteristically next to her. She rolled her eyes when he continued and then turned to curl up on her side to face him. "You liked it, so stop pretending like you didn't," she smirked sleepily. She had yet to go to bed and could feel exhaustion setting in. "And I did bring you something of interest. I left it down in the shop," she yawned, unconciously thinking of the box again as her eyes drooped a little.

Mecca smirked and watched her as she started to drift. "I don't pretend." He said pulling the covers up over her and slipping out of the bed. Dressing swiftly he let Covet sleep as he crept out of the room and down to the workshop. Stopping at the kitchen to make himself some water he continued down to the workshop where the wrapped object sat on his desk. Setting the glass of water on the side he opened the packaging and looked at it with his head tilted to the side. "Curious." He said to himself as he traced his fingers over the features of a demonic face.

After only a couple of hours, Covet woke with a start. It was the same every day now. She knew she dreamed. She could feel it. But she would wake with a racing heart and no memory of what it was. Yawning deeply, she ran a hand over her face and looked around the room for a moment. She almost forgot where she was, but it all came back in a rush. Sliding out of bed, she quickly made it up and sleepily made her way down the stairs. Going into the kitchen she made herself some tea and then went down into the workshop where she knew she would find Mecca.
"Do you like it?" she asked a bit hoarsely before clearing her throat and taking a sip of her tea. She walked over to a plush leather seat and curled herself up into a tight ball on it as she watched him.

"Mmm." Mecca said as he examined the piece thoroughly. "Though it is worth nothing." He stood and crossed to place the carving on the mantle. "Are you feeling well?" He asked crossing back over to her and placing a cold hand on her head. "You sound terrible."

Covet supressed the urge to shiver at the feel of his hand on her head and arched a brow as she looked up at him. "I'm fine. I'm just tired," she replied, giving her shoulder a small shrug. She looked away from him and took another sip of her tea. Her eyes involuntarily fell on the box, but she forced herself to look away before Mecca noticed what had caught her eye. Closing her eyes she took another sip and savored the rich, warm taste of the drink.
"What would you like to do today?" she asked, opening her eyes to look up at him.

Mecca watched her for a moment and shrugged though he was not so sure. "I have no desire to do anything today." He said pulling a comb through his hair and tying it back. "Though I suppose we must do something. How about we take a wander of the backstreets. I have to pick something up from a shop." He smiled blankly and pulled his jacket and boots on. He smirked to himself and looked over to her. "It is something for you."

Covet continued to watch him prepare himself to go out. It amused her at how meticulous he was with his appearance. She preferred to look her best, but she always just threw herself together and somehow it worked. Rubbing her eyes a little, she smiled and looked over at him as she sipped her tea and he teased her curiosity.
"For me? How thoughtful," she smirked. She uncurled herself from the seat and rose to her feet. She set her mug down on the table and stretched her arms high above her head. She combed her fingers through her hair and smiled at him.
"I'm ready when you are Me-chan," she smirked, stretching her wings and fluffing her feathers.

Mecca smirked, he had stopped berating her for the nickname as she was obviously never going to leave it. "I can be you know." He said blankly offering her his arm. "You think because I feel things differently I cannot be thoughtful?" Pausing to lock the door he lead her up and onto the seafront. It was a beautiful day, the sun shone high and the skies were blue as far as the eye could see.
He was not quite sure himself why he had decided to buy Covet yet another present. Possibly because it was one of the few ways he could make her smile. Her smile was a thing of beauty. He liked it.

She slipped her arm comfortably into his and watched him as he spoke and led her out into the fresh air. She blinked at the bright sunshine and hugged his arm a little tighter.
"No... I know you are thoughtful Mecca. It just amuses me when you are so randomly so," she smirked, again supressing the urge to shiver. The weather was so gorgeous but she felt like ice. Taking a deep breath, she let it out and allowed him to lead her. "So what is my present?"
