The hatching begins! The sands are vibrating with the humming of a bronzish-greenish Queen and the dragons of the Weyr. Nine largeish eggs and three smallish ones have finally been spread out from their cluster, and some have started rocking.

As the candidates assemble, one of the questions on everyone's mind is ... who will Impress? How will this clutch turn out? Will Wrath bite someone in a fit of hunger???

The RP of the hatching will be run something like the one at Fort. However, I will reveal the colors of the hatchlings as they emerge ... and if you approach one who does not like you, it might attack you, so be wary. The Hatchlings know who they want.

Please remember that there is not a Queen Egg in this clutch. The father was a brown. Although Browns can father Queen Eggs, it is ridiculously rare and I've seen too much bending of the odds lately to feel comfortable adding one more such stretch. A Queen Egg can be readily recognized while on the sands, and I assure you, there is not one here.

I will play favorites with people who RP well and have, overall, good attitudes about being a part of this guild.

Eggs likely to hatch: Maybe 9.
Timeframe of Hatching: Hopefully before Halloween.

Gabriel,{Gabriel1}
Feather,{FeatherSoftWings}
Andraia, {AndrAIa}
Kevat, {LunaDragonEclipse}
Boryanor ,{Optical_Illusions}
{Elowyn Silverleaf}
{Iya Ilene}

((Some candidates are currently at Fort))

A notice to the Candidates
Candidates are invited to make a daily visit to the eggs; be sure to wear your white robes so Wrath doesn't eat you. She does not permit touching of the eggs at all, you may approach to within about a yard or so and look, talk, and think at the eggs.

The Hatching Grounds are brightly lit by many glowbaskets at all times, as Wrath prefers being able to clearly see the area. The sands are hot, the eggs are getting harder, and occasionally drudges shamble shyly through the galleries to scrub away dust and accumulated junk, hiding from the watchful brooding mother.

In a rare fit of trust, Wrath occasionally permits the father of the clutch, brown Nakoreth, to guard the eggs while she assists Ray in her new Weyrlingmaster duties. Wrath makes up for this by being especially watchful while she is around the eggs, hissing and mantling her wings at all who approach. Well, most of them; she'll accept Rayi, sometimes K'makin, and tolerates Candidates as long as they stay on their manners.

The nine eggs which are likely to hatch are decently sized, with four believed to hold browns or bronzes, and the others most likely blues or greens. The other three eggs are considerably smaller, and probably won't hatch.

K'makin watches the clutch from a cool stone bench in the galleries. Even from here, the hot sands heated the air, but somehow the benches remained somewhat cooler.

It still made him chuckle, watching Nakoreth hunched over the eggs for all the world as though he were a brooding Queen. The dragon had things here well in hand--the notice given to the candidates would probably keep them from being pests. There weren't many candidates here yet, but that just meant the early arrivals had a better chance of being comfortable on the sands.

He wandered out to the bowl to see if the Weyrling class had left yet. They were still clustered around the larger shape of Wrath... but they were all mounted, and would probably be headed out soon. Finally he decided to head down to the kitchens to look for a snack.

Beriardi wanders into the Hatching Ground to look at the eggs. Seeing their father, brown Nakoreth, hovering over them like Netesath hovered over her cluch made her chuckle slightly. She bowed to him, "Greetings brown Nakoreth, how are the eggs progressing?" She started heading for the gallary, "I will be wtaching from over here."

Nakoreth rumbles contentedly. He recognizes the new Weyrwoman, and knows that she isn't a danger to the eggs, so he doesn't bother to call K'makin back from his snack run.

She settles on to a bench with a smile, Nakoreth is doing a good job garding Wrath's eggs...I think it was a good thing he caught her...with all that is happening
he is only a brown...
lighten up dear heart, he was clever and is really protective
a brown would never catch me
The gold's mental distane made her chuckle. If you say so dear heart, but Dyanith did!
He flew me well

Hey K'makin, you've got a visitor here, how about grabbing an extra snack for her?

K'makin paused from his flirting with one of the cooks. Chuckling, she went back to her duties, recognizing the look a rider gets when his dragon is talking. Who is she?

Beriardi, Netesath's rider. Should I ask Netesath if Beriardi wants anything in particular?

With a shrug, Kya replies Why not? It's always good to be polite to the Weyrwoman.

Nakoreth, with an inner shrug of his own, bespeaks Netesath. K'makin is in the Lower Caverns getting a snack. Do you think Beriardi would like anything?

She would probly enjoy some meat rolls Netesath streached in the sun and turned her head to the weyrlings. Yes, meatrolls would be good for her, she hasen't eaten much lately

((darn, it ate my post! gonk ))

Thank you, Netesath. I'll tell him now. Nakoreth turned his attention back to his rider. Hey Kyamak, bring up some meatrolls, she's hungry. Also, some klah and would you please bring me a sticky roll?

K'makin groaned. I should never have snuck those to you when we were Weyrlings. Who ever heard of a dragon with a sweet tooth? Anyhow, just one sticky roll, could you even taste it?

Please? I'll behave.

Fine, I'll bring up a basket. K'makin caught the attention of the cook again. "Excuse me, I need enough meatrolls for two, a jug of klah, and a basket of sticky rolls for my dragon."

The cook raised an eyebrow at the strange rider, but shrugged. There was a fresh batch of sticky rolls... As she loaded a pair of baskets, she leveled an even stare at the stranger. "I don't want to hear of no broken hearts," she admonished him.

Assuming his most innocent expression, K'makin dramatically replied, "But how could I even look at another woman, after beholding your glory?"

"Bah!" The cook blushed in spite of herself. "Off with you, now."

Chuckling, the brownrider picked up both baskets and headed back to the Hatching grounds.

Beriardi quitely contimpltes the eggs, a small clutch with a few small eggs but most of them were large and sure to produce healthy dragonets. She hoped for blues and browns, maybe a bronze because the weyr despratly needed more male dragons. She grones softly, they were being over run by greens!

Yay! You're back! Nakoreth makes a happy sound as K'makin returns to the Hatching grounds.

"Just a second, Nakoreth," he says in response, headed toward the galleries. He would wave at the person he sees sitting there, but his hands are full. "Hi there," he says in greeting. "Nakoreth told me there was a visitor. I'm K'makin."

As the dragonriders chatted, Boryanor entered the grounds, white robed and barefoot (he wasn't sure if he really needed to be barefoot to just see the eggs, but he figured trying it now would get him used to heat a little by the time the eggs hatched). It took him a moment to spot the eggs, but when he did he was surprised at how few there were. Carefully, he wandered a little closer, stopping about 5 meters from the nearest one, and just stared at the sight...

K'makin was chatting amiably with Beriardi, and noticed a Candidate approach. He waved at the youngster; the boy looked distinctly uncomfortable; he was doing the hot sands dance. Curiously, Kya leaned forward... no shoes? That was silly of him!

Not V'tos and Zorith! Nakoreth kept his keening down a bit, knowing that the eggs would feel the full-throated sound of grief as a painful vibration. K'makin hurriedly made his apologies to the Weyrwoman and vaulted to the sands to stand near his dragon.

What happened?

Thread at Fort. The Weyrwoman there calls for aid. Wrath returns, we must prepare!

Startled, K'makin found himself running for a firestone sack and Nakoreth's fighting harness. He didn't remember when he started running, but it certainly seemed like a good idea, so he kept it up. They would hopefully be ready soon.

After buckling on the harness, he started feeding Nakoreth the firestone, and after emptying the sack, Kya returned to fetch two more to attach to the harness. In his rush, he lost track of the visitors, but after he belatedly realized that neglect, Nakoreth reassured him.

They both stayed well away from the eggs. Where is Wrath?

Wrath barrels into the Hatching Sands, with Ray clinging haplessly to her back, the dragon having not paused to let her dismount.

As she settles into her place behind the eggs, glaring around malevolently, Ray slides off and tries to sneak away.

Nakoreth! What are you doing here? GO! And YOU! she turns to her rider. Get this off me.

With a sigh, Ray moves to take off the harness, wondering if accepting the job of Weyrlingmaster had really been such a hot idea... she was kinda doubting it at the moment. Well, hopefully the next few lessons wouldn't turn out to be such disasters!

Yes ma'am! Nakoreth indicated that K'makin mount, and before his rider could strap in, the brown was trotting out of the Hatching grounds. Just as he pulled the last buckle tight, Nakoreth leapt off and flew up. Kya dug through his memories for the proper visualization of Fort, then found it and gave Nakoreth the coordinates.

Ready?

Yes. Let's go!

K'makin barely had time to register the aching cold of between before they were out, somewhat lower in the skies of Fort than they should be, but hopefully well out of the way of the bustle.
