(( I'll pick up the story from where we left off last in the thread, I suppose~ ))
Kumoru really, honestly saw no point in "lightening up", but for Chris's sake, he forced a small laugh. He flopped back on the grass and peered up at the clouds for several minutes, then asked, "Were you still interested in seeing my lantern? I suppose I could take you for a brief visit, so long as you didn't touch anything." He laughed again; it sounded a bit more genuine, perhaps because he was laughing at himself. "Because it would be a tragedy if you upset a stack of books and ended up burried or something."

"That much mess huh?" Chris asked with a smile. "That's pretty bad if an avalanche of books would kill you." Packing up her art supplies in the backpack before sitting up and slinging it on, Chris looked to Kumoru with a smile. "Maybe I can help you clean some of it up? That way no one would be in danger of getting burried alive."

Kumoru quickly shook his head. "I couldn't ask you to do that. It's my mess; I'll be able to handle it on my own." He sat up and picked a few stray bits of grass out of his long hair. "It will just happen... at my own... slow pace," he admitted with a sheepish grin.

Chris smiled, though nodded. "I know I'd jump at the chance someone asked to dust my room. The whole place is probably about as bad as yours is." Her smile became a little sheepish, getting up and dusting herself off before holding out a hand to Kumoru.

The mage hesitated a moment before taking Chris's hand and getting up. He released her hand as soon as he was standing, and looked about to tuck his hands into his sleeves as was his habit before abruptly remembering that his current attire wasn't his usual, and that the sleeves of his jacket would not accomodate his hands. He settled for stuffing them into his pockets as he smiled up at Chris. "Are we ready then? It's only about a twenty-minute walk or so."

Chris slipped on her sandals she'd taken off when she'd been drawing, smiling as she nodded. "Yup. All set." She said happily, pulling her back pack on.

The mage started out of the Gardens at a leisurely pace, glancing back to make sure Chris was following. "My home is a bit out of the way, but that means we get a nice walk through the forst for at least part of the trip."

"That's alright," Chris said pleasently, folding her arms behind her head before looking up at the sky. "Plenty of time to just talk. Always a good place to start when getting to know a new friend." She said with a smile. "So.... What sort of ambitions do you have for yourself?"

"Ambitions?" Kumoru laughed a bit and smiled, tapping his lips with one finger as he pondered how best to answer this question. "I want to be strong in magic. I specialize in a... particular field of magic that is not practiced nearly as often as some of the others. I suppose because of its difficulty. But my teachers always told me that I had great potential to learn and practice magic, and I have had little trouble with my past studies, so I figure things should not be too difficult."
A slight change came over him, a slight narrowing of the eyes, perhaps a bit of a more sinister curve to his smile - likely very difficult to detect unless one was watching for these signs. After this moment's hesitation, the mage continued: "I want to become this age's expert in this field. I want to consolidate all the past knowledge from ancient volumes written by other mages, and experiment and make discoveries of my own. And then I want to write down as much as possible. For the future, of course."

The expression on his face almost made her flinch, and the way he went on about some sort of magic but never saying what it was also put her a little on edge. "What sort of magic might that be Mukoru?" She asked with a slight hesitation, not knowing if it was something dark like Necromancy or something potentially dangerous to most people like alchemy.
To say the least, the calm, cool, nanchallant Kumoru she'd thought she knew had just shown the dark side of the moon to her. Not knowing anyone who'd smile like that, or have such ambitions that seemed questionable in the least.
