Do you mean the video release Ju-on, or the theatre version ju-on the grudge? The video release was okay Ju-on 2 was stupid....why repeat the last half hour of the first.
Ju-on the grudge: as prety much the same as ju-on just a better story and effects, i liked it. I have yet to see ju-on the grudge 2. And finally the grudge was pretty good, directors cut was better then the theatre version.

Oh it was scary. Saw it in Philippines during monsoon. Rainy and windy as heck with periods of blackouts. Anyways, the house I was in was big, and empty. Ugh scary.

When I found out back in.....I think it was last August....that Ju-On was getting a limited theatrical release, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to see this film. Boy, was I disappointed when the movie ended.
I'm sorry, but seeing a 15-minute short film about a character viewers learn very little, if anything at all, about (How the hell am I supposed to feel about the people tormented by the ghosts? Are they good people? Sinister? Am I supposed to feel sorry for them?) played about eight times is garbage. Forget the fact that the film is not scary; what about the fact that, because nothing is ever learned about any of these characters, no relationships are ever built between those on screen and those in the audience (hence creating detatchment and boredom). What about the noticable plot-holes in the school teacher's storyline (How can a student in her class live in the haunted house when the last child who lived there, Toshio the Ghostchild, died years ago? Why would the ghosts force her to come to the house when there is no direct connection between her and the house itself? Didn't the teacher notice the black and yellow "CAUTION: DO NOT ENTER BECAUSE THE POLICE SAID SO" tape blocking the entrance when she visited the house? If the tape was taken down or disappeared, when did this happen, who took it down, and why was this done? How the hell could filmmakers not notice this stuff?).
Talk about feeling cheated; here I am expecting Grade-A horror, and what do I get? Something even worse than the disgusting failure that is Saw. Never going to watch a Japanese horror film or the even worse American remake ever again.

I thought Ju-On the Grudge had a good idea, but lost track in how the killings was performed and (as I noticed up there somewhere) the sympathy for the maincharacters. As well as I think japanese horror need to re-invent itself pretty soon. But thats another thread.

Junosa As well as I think japanese horror need to re-invent itself pretty soon. But thats another thread. I think they should change alittle too, but i asked one of my friends from Japan why she wasn't into killers, werewolves, zombies..and stuff in film. She told me because Japan is raised very much into the thoughts of spirits, that films with ghost's in them scare them more then they do us. Its all a culture thing, its not their fault that americans keep remaking japanese ghost stories, they do have some pretty creepy stuff over there as well, (Audtion, Battle Royale, 2LDK) which don't concern ghosts.

I really enjoyed it. It's confusing that there are so many different versions though... and of course the American version is crap, that's pretty much a given. wink I love Toshio. domokun

The only thing I liked about the American release was to see what the director could do with a bigger budget. I own all 4 of the Japanese Ju-Ons and I like to see how with each one the budget gets slightly better or the actors start expirementing.
