I have been job hunting and have been out of class for a wile now I went all over but have not found work yet so I am taking a break and training at home. I have been doing some things on my dummy I made for practicing my dummy form like after doing some blocks and strikes I have added some leg grabs shooting for the legs my dummy stands on its own so I can move all around it and shoot for the legs like you would to take some one down. It's new I have never seen any Wing Chun people do it yet and I just started to do it wile screwing around one night I realy think it could be used as part of Wing Chun's dummy training at least with a free standing dummys. I also have been practicing geting behind people to choke them like I said I can move all around my dummy so I have been doing somethings that we normaly do wile with a partner I move around one side of the dummy wile striking and what not and work my way behind it so I am hiting it in the back of the head. I was taught that moving to one side is a good idea you only half to deal with one leg and one arm but if you work all the way around and stay close to your enemy they can't turn around fast enogh to do any good.

At my belt in Hap Ki Do (red/black) i'm learnign knife defense, so far so good, in decemember i should be testing for my Black belt, which is close enough to be a problem but far enough away to have plenty of time. Also because this is the last belt before black, every technique has to be perfect for the test... and i have learned alot of techniques, and double things that are not on curicumlum

Doctor_Strange Cool..So what exactly does Wing Chun Focus on? oh and another area that i am trying to work on however i am not making much progress is learning to re-gain my balance when i am forced off. when i spar i notice that whenever i am thrown off balance i have an exceedingly hard time getting it back while trying to pay attention to my opponet... any hints to help me get my balance back quickly? Wing Chuns main idea is using both hands at the same time the Chi Sau drils or sticky hands training is a key part of the style. Chi Sau is like fighting starting like patty cake it's a dril that helps build combat reflexes you learn to sence movment from just touching part of your enemys body. Chi Sau clip If you watch the clip you may see arm traping we learn to trap or tie up our attackers arms. Kicks in Wing Chun are not well known some say we don't kick this is wrong Wing Chun has some of the most efective kicks in martial arts there kept low we trip people with low kicks to ankles and knees there hard to see and harder to defend against all you can do is back away or try to block with your leg or foot. In all Wing Chun is a close range art that uses more hand techniques fast easy blocks and rapid punches there are 7 main branches of Wing Chun and all have their own ideas on how best to use the art. Quote: hints to help me get my balance back quickly? I don't know much of your styles stances but working on moving in and out of your stances can help if your stances are week it's hard to stay balanced. If you can't absorb a blow you may get knocked around. If you step into a persons strike like a kick you can knock them off balance and by steping back or in the same direction as the strike you can lessen the force that hits you in some cases.

i've been out of action for months now. had to move cos of a job.
i think i start back next monday at new shotokan place.
for balance, when i'm put of balance i force my body weight downwards or go straight into lower stance(even if i take a hit)
lately i've been working on waist/hips and core muscles, can now hit behind me in a fixed stance, by turning upper body.

I believe this is a good place to introduce myself. My name is Emily, but here I usually go by Amai. I'll be 18 in march and I'm a senior at high school. For my senior project I'm going to learn kung fu. I've heard that kung fu takes quite some time to learn, so I'm not sure how much progress I could make. I'm also not too sure why Wolf3001 invited me to join, but I am greatly interested in martial arts and I'm a fairly good listener or reader in this case.

I was bored so I went through members of Gaia who added martial arts type things to their interests. So now your here and you can discus with us your project maybe learn some more from other members here. I do Wing Chun Kung Fu and there are some people here that do Wu Shu systems. Quote: I've heard that kung fu takes quite some time to learn. Martial arts styles can take a life time to master. You may learn a lot in a year but it will take far more than that to learn a single style. I have been in Wing Chun for around 5 years if I keep it up I will reach instructor level. It may take 2 or 3 years maybe longer but I want that so I hope to stay with it and get as far as I can. I hope that our Guild will help with your project.

Why thank you. I suppose it would be true to say that anything will take a long time to learn if learned properly. I was thinking of learning a martial art before this project came up, but it's a good excuse to start learning. I was thinking that kung fu would be good to start out with and then move on from there. A friend of mine recently got back from Thailand after training in muy thai. I think I would like to eventually dabble in other arts as a dancer might create a foundation based on ballet but move on to say pop 'n lock. In any case, I'm interested in what you all have to say. Thank you.

Mixing styles is something I feel every one needs to do. The only way to learn more is to move around and try new things. I do Wing Chun but I would like to do Jujutsu as well so I hope to get into it sometime. At the moment I have been in and out of class. I have had a rough few years going to tech school trying to find a job so I go when I can but I havent been able to go as much as I would like.
It will all change in a few weeks or so I should have enough money to stay in Kung Fu and pay for all my other habits, hobbies and bills. Hate that b word that takes more money than I would like. I want a new computer so I am trying to pay off all my bills and things right now then save some for my new computer and set some off to the side to get back to class. I figure that I should have enough to do every thing I want to.
I realy need to get back to class I came home from tech school and went back for a wile then couldnt afford it. I looked for a job for a few months wile trying to stay with my training at home and now I found some what of a job not great but I got money now. I hope that every thing goes right and I will be back in class in a few weeks. I hate training by my self it's just not as good as having someone throwing punches at you.

Hello Emily or Amai! Welcome to Unite Martial Artists!! I'm Kiba and I am currently learning TaeKwonDo the Korean Martial Art that was made from the Korean's learnings of Japanese and Chinese Martial Arts if I'm correct ^^, I hope you like it here and don't worry although I don't do kung fu but I know that if you set your mind to it and practice even outside of the dojo you'll get much much better at it ^^, and even after the project you should continue it helps you alot in any MA (MA=Martial Art) cuz it helps with mind and body and such and it gets you into a better shape ^_^ hope you enjoy yourself here!
PS: Any MA takes atleast a few months to get the hang off atleast a little bit of the forms and different stances and defensive blocks and such. ;P
