She'd always had a laugh at the turtles she came across that ended up on their back (either by her doing or by finding them that way), but she suddenly realized that the situation was far from humerous when the tables were turned.
Now, this couldn't be karma, could it? She'd always helped the turtles back to their feet (gotten bitten a few times for upending their world in the first place), she wasn't heartless. So how had she ended up in this mess?
"AUGH!!"
It preceeded several more frustrated cries and grunts as the female, try as she might, could not right herself. It wasn't for lack of skill, just a lack of energy. Any numbskull could figure out HOW to get back up, but she was feeling lethargic and tired, and not like her usual self. She didn't feel like she had enough strength to get up from her spot, even though she was all but aching to get out to sun herself, suddenly feeling chilly.
Mosi really missed being small enough that climbing the tree that they denned in used to be an easy feat. Now she was stuck to the lower levels, as her claws couldn't pull her weight anymore, her belly had swollen too much.
The dark female finally gave up with a frustrated groan and resigned to rolling over onto her other side, facing the entrance and exit of the den instead.
~Stupid sunlight. Taunt me all you want. I don't need you to get warm.~ Mutter grumble.

The light colored lion had been in the upper level of the tree, in the bough of branches above gathering leaves to take below and hopefully make a softer bed for his mate, she'd like that wouldn't she? He had gathered a good sized pile and was pushing it toward the opening that led to the hollow below. He froze, ears flicking as the sound of distress from below met his ears, a cry that he instantly recognized as his mate's. Instinctively he sprang toward the opening, prepared to leap to her rescue, but something stopped him and he simply watched for a moment as the young lioness lay on her back, struggling to right herself. He knew he shouldn't have, it was mean to laugh at another's misfortune, especially one's mate. But there was just something about it that was just so comical, so...cute, he just couldn't help it, pale eyes bright as he watched her giggling silently to himself. "The rare and elusive turtle lion." But then he felt bad and a bit guilty for laughing at her, and deciding she had suffered enough, after all he wanted to help the one he loved; Juhudi pushed his pile of leaves through the opening and lept down after them, landing softly on one of the ledges within then springing to the floor. "You okay?"

Mosi heard the snickering and simply muttered under her breath, curling up a little. When scattering leaves began to fall, one drifted down to cover her nose, making it twitch.
"M'fine." She muttered with an almost pout, pawing the leaf off of her face and huffing, trying again to get to her paws before giving up, curling into as much of a ball as she could instead. "M'cold." She responded again, this time muffled.

Juhudi's ears lowered, his tail dropped at the tone in her voice, feeling very guilty, he shouldn't have laughed at her even if she was cute stuck on her side and pouting like that. Looking away to hide the smile on his maw, the young lion set about gathering the leaves, pushing them into a pile that he hoped would be soft and comfortable. "I got some stuff to make a soft bed for you." The leaves gathered, he walked to the dark lioness' side, lowering his head to nuzzle against her neck, his touch warm and gentle. "Cold?" He lowered himself at her side, curling around her in an attempt to warm her. "You want some help?"

Mosi would have still been sore had it been anyone else-- her father, her grandmother, Ezeoha even (but we highly doubt Ezzy would've bothered hiding it, and would've come out scratched up to show for it), but Juhudi she couldn't stay mad at. The female felt a rumble begin in her chest, rising to rattle her throat as well as she began to purr, uncurling enough to butt her head against his before she turned more into him and started seeping warmth.
That was a yes.
Ultimately this was just as good an excuse as any to cuddle. "I miss being albe to move around like I normally do." She confessed. "I feel so useless just lying around here all the time while you do all the work."

The young lion smiled at her, purring softly, a paw wrapping around her, he was warm enough for the both of them. "But you're not useless, and I don't mind doing the hunting." Maybe not the best words to cheer her up, but he was trying and he meant well. He could see carrying cubs was hard for her, though he couldn't have really understood how hard. All he could do was try to make it a bit easier, and be there for her when she needed him. "You'll be back to yourself before you know it, and very soon we'll have a family." He nuzzled her gently, an attempt to reassure her. He would have just stayed there with her, keeping her warm in his embrace; but brrr, that floor was chilly, the earth unwarmed by the sun. Maybe laying on that bed of leaves was a better idea, or going outside in the sun. "Do you want me to help you up?"

Mosi gave a nod, grateful for the help though she would've liked to have been able to do it on her own. That couldn't be helped though, and he was offering, so there was no reason to say no.
"Can we go outside? I'd kill for some fresh air," She grunted a bit as she detangled reluctantly (He was so warm! T__T) and got a head start on uncurling.

"Of course." He purred, a soft smile on his maw as he unwrapped himself from her and stood to his feet. Pausing, he thougt for a moment, how to help her up without hurting her? Being closer to adult hood, Juhudi was larger than her, but not by as much as he once had been. Finally deciding, he walked until he was directly in front of her, his posture lowered so she could reach. Maybe if she held onto his neck or shoulders? "Hold onto me, and I'll pull you up."

Mosi's tail twitched against the floor of the den, the lioness lifting her head to watch her mate rise. She was curious as to what his solution would be, and her gaze showed it. Once his head lowered to holding range she looked a bit uncertain. Would this really work?
.... Oh well. They'd find out.
Mosi rumbled and shifted back onto her side so she could bring her forepaws up around him,, preparing her hind legs to help her get up when the time was right.
"I feel more like a beached fish than a turtle." She muttered, embarassed.

"Awww...but you're a cute beached fish." Looking over his shoulder he grinned at her, taking the moment to lick her nose. He paused, making sure she had a firm grip. When he was sure she had, he straightened, paws digging into the ground as he tried to take a step forward and pull the lioness to her feet. Unfortunately, lions are not built for pulling, and despite his best attempts, the young lion simply did not have the leverage. Dirt scattered as his paws slipped, Mosi's weight throwing him off balance and sending him sprawling backward.

"Iamnot." Mosi muttered, blushing, thankful for fur to cover that fact.
Her eyes widened in surprise as she felt Juhudi's weight shift suddenly, and yelped as they both toppled over backwards, harmlessly, thankfully.
Blinking off her daze, Mosi found herself staring up into the branches and naturally formed, curved ledges of the inner trunk of the den. Back on her back again! Damn!
"Juuuu! This isn't working!" She complained, rolling on her back so that she could hopefully get to her side again, maybe get up on her own this time.

The lion toppled backward, landing with a definite thud on the earthen floor of the den. Lifting a paw to rub his head, he grinned sheepishly at his mate. "owwww...well okay, maybe that wasn't such a good idea." Standing to his paws, Juhudi's ears dropped, his tail flicking in the dirt, seemed he had only made things worse with his attempt. Well, pulling didn't work, maybe he if pushed from behind he could roll her upright. Circling, he tried to find the best way before finally coming to a stop near her shoulder. His head lowered, he nudged at her shoulder, putting the strength of his front end into it, rotating his body to use his shoulders as well.

She could easily tell where he was moving to and from by the sounds of his footsteps, the proximity of his scent, and the general feel of his body closer or farther from hers. When he came up on her side and began to nudge, urging her to rise, Mosi found her side again and tried to help, pulling with her forepaws until her shoulders were off the ground, then pushing with her hindpaws until her butt followed suit.
"Thanks, I'll never pick on turtles again." She huffed, then a relieved exhale was their reward, as the dark lioness gave her body a full shake, necklace rattling in the process. The dust and bit of dirt scattered, and suddenly a new idea came to mind.
"Maybe... a trip to the watering hole, then sunning." She suggested, looking to Juhudi both grateful and relieved.

It had taken some effort, perhaps more than he'd expected, but he had finally managed to get Mosi to her feet. Grinning, he sat back on his haunches to rest for a moment and catch his breath. There was a mischevious look to that grin, something very cubish. "What, you don't like being a turtle lion?" Now that it was over he didn't feel so guilty and he was barely able to stiffle his laughter. A single bound forward and he nuzzled her neck, perhaps to distract her from his comment. "Mmm...a trip to the water hole sounds like fun."

Her eyes just widened in surprise suddenly at his laughter and it took a moment for her brain to register what he'd said to cause such an outburst. Instantly she started to sputter out a protest when his head brushed against her neck, leaving her further speechless for a few seconds. Mosi growled and boxed his ear with her paw (claws sheathed, of course).
"You better not think you can just charm your way out of trouble like that all the time." She warned with a look, feeling hungry then. Mosi only then began for the exit of the tree, careful of her "extra cargo". Once she was out in the sunlight her mood began to lift again, and she looked back to the den entrance watching for her mate to emerge and join her.
