Salam alakum. Anyone heard about what happened with the pope? Please express opinions, what you think should be done, etc.

Wa Alaykum Asalam. Yes i heard about it but not in all the detail. Just that the pope said something offensive about islam and/or muslims and/or the holy Qur'an. Also he apologised that it was made in the past and didnt mean to offend someone. Probably if i knew what exactly he said then i could judge his actions. But of what i also know the church and the pope have recieved threats from Muslims. I for one, think that what he did was wrong but i dont think we should fight back through an offensive form, but more defensive. In which i mean the pope himself actually looked really bad (imo) on Tv for doing this. Rporting the insult is definitly a positive thing from my point of veiw too. But get someone like George Galloway to really show the world how Islam is being insulted by many cultures, either directly and indirectly. (ie: 9/11, i believe the american government were behind it)

What I don't get is that the Pope talks about jihad, and what do we do? We prove to him that we're violent by threatening him and bombing churches!!! It's just making us look bad!!! But what he said was very wrong, and even though I agree that his "apology" was not sincere, I think we should accept it and not make matters worse. I mean, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, right?

I think muslims got a bit too violent and just made us look as bad as the pope. what i HEARD was he made prophet Mohammed (p.b.u.h), something like a person who loves to kill. I think what he said was terrible and if he really didnt mean to insult us he should have apologized immediately but i think he apologized sincerely because it took him so long too. And he also stated i saw on the news he didnt mean it in a bad way and stuff like that. so if he didnt retract it and say sorry dont have people threaten you and put it on the news and outrage people.

Islam is in the limelight right now. The media is purposely making Islam look bad. I doubt the majority of Muslims are violent, it's probably just a small number but the media is making it look like a big thing, when it really isn't.
I think Muslims need to calm down about it too.

Yeah heard abt it ... he said that Rasulullah [SAW] loves to spread his word through his sword or something along those lines ... and true, he didn't sincerely apologize for what he said and yeah, rioting won't get us anywhere. However, we can't let insults abt Islam pass by and grow into bigger misconceptions ... things need to be strighten up abt Islam but definitely not through "sword".

He apologized and I respect that he did that, but I'm not sure if he really meant it or not. I think the rioting shouldn't happen though.

.a.r.a.s.h.i. He apologized and I respect that he did that, but I'm not sure if he really meant it or not. I think the rioting shouldn't happen though. I totally agree. People shouldn't imidiately riot to solve their problems.
