The park's green grass stretched out across the land. Islands of woodchips made it a definate shoe zone. Rods of metal popped out of the ground arcing back down to hold up slides and swings, a merry-go-round, a see-saw, and a central place. Towers rose above with chain bridges connecting them and monkey bars and a sliding pole going off in different directions.
With all of this it seemed like a dreamland for a little kid but instead Kasch was on the outskirts. Squating down by the bushes he rummaged through the branches picking out just the right sticks. Every so often he'd find one and put it in a brown cardboard box beside him.
Inside sticks and grass made a temporary bed for his egg. He peered inside unhappy with his collection so far. There wasn't enough for a good nest. He'd used some string to make a base but it was barely the size of his fist. His bird wouldn't have any room to grow.
Determined to make a decent nest, he picked up his box and moved over to the merry-go-round. With a firm hand he continued stringing the base together, thinking it looked much like a spider web.

"MEWWY ROUND!" Sourire pointed excitedly. It had been a new construction to the park and she was excited to try it out. "Round round!" She exclaimed as she hopped up onto the contraption.
"No, no, no, yes!" Said Sourire as she spotted a horse decked in frill and lace and, to top it off, completely pink. She attempted to mount the horse, but promptly failed. "'Cuss!" She called, but much to her dismay she had outrun her guardian and he, for some reason, seemed to be dawdling at a rose bush. That Evangeline was the perfect definition for high maintenance.
Turning back to her pink horse she pondered. How in the world would she get on? After all, there was no way on Gaia that she would leave the merry go round unsuccessful. So she jumped.
After a good deal of jumping she realized she was just too short to hop on this stallion without aid. She looked around looking for someone to help her out and, much to her delight, spotted a boy. She pointed at him, "You! Help please!" So she wasn't the suave-est of favor askers, but she most certainly got the job done.

Completely oblivious at first, Kasch continued on with his weaving. The boy nearly jumped out of his skin when Sourire yelled at him. He turned his head looking at her curious before looking around. "Me?" he asked tilting his head.
Whether he was too much of a gentleman or just stunned into submission, it was hard to tell. Setting his work down he stood up and walked over to her looking between the horse and her. He walked around to the other side of the horse giving a nod. He could fly up there. He flapped his leathery wings rising slowly off the ground at first before his arms and head peeked over the horse's back.
"I'll pull you up now," he told the girl with a smile. His reached his hands out, his legs ready to push against the horse so he could pull her up.

She was close now. She knew that with this boy's help she would be sitting on that pink horse in no time! What she hadn't taken into account, however, was that the boy was winged. She had never seen someone winged before. And then he flew.
In Sourire's mind only birds flew. Nevertheless there were more important matters at hand and as he reached down she grabbed onto his hands and jumped as high as she could. Hopefully he could manage the rest.

Catching onto the girl's hands, he pulled with all his might giving his wings a slight flap to help. If he had been bigger, it would've been easy. Of course both of them being toddlers they were about the same weight and Kasch found he didn't have much strength in his arms. Pushing against the horse with his legs, he found he was able to pull her up.
"Almost there," he breathed. He gave another push and finally pulled her up so she was laying on her stomach. A squeal of delight and he let go, wanting to celebrate his victory. Only without his wings flapping, gravity took effect and he fell to the surface.
He blinked a few times, confused about the sudden change. Sitting up, he rubbed his head and gave a laugh. "I forgot I had wings," he admitted bashfully.

Sourire too squealed with delight. She had done it! Hurrah! Still on her tummy she pulled herself up and, evetually, managed to get her butt under her. All of a sudden, however, it seemed that her accomplice had completely landed on the floor!
Stifling a giggle she stated, "You silly!" And then the wings stole her attention again. Pointing at them she asked, "what are those? you a birdy?"

"No-" he paused picking himself up. Arms behind his back, he twiddled his thumbs. "I wish I was a bird. I'm a human." Though he had wings he didn't think he was any different than others.
Looking at her he tilted his head. She had spots and little brown horns. "What are you? I've never seen a spotted gir-" he stopped himself. "I mean, you look pretty with spots and horns or something like that," he tried again. It wasn't that he thought she wasn't pretty, he thought she was very pretty but he didn't exactly know how to say it. It just didn't sound quite right.
Kasch was confused a bit and walked around the horse once before looking back up at her. "Oh! My name's Kasch," he blushed looking thoughtful.

"But I no have wings!" She declared while frutilessly trying to look at her shoulder blades. Well, even if she couldn't see if she had wings or not, she definitely couldn't fly. "Only birdies fly!"
She didn't take offense to his questions. "No, silly," Apparantly this was one silly boy, "I'm a Sourire!" She beamed, "My dadda says I'm special. And that my cow horns and spots add to my beauty." Upon his commenting of her being pretty she grinned, "I pretty! Lookit my dress!" She was wearing her favorite one today. Bright pink and flowy, like a princess!
"Hello Kasch!" She waved to him. She didn't bother saying her name to him, she had already said it once and he would've caught on by now, right?

"What's a Sourire?" he asked, confused. He probably should've guessed it was her name but he didn't. "I can't be a bird, I don't have feathers!" he replied. Though pretty, she sure was-something. He wasn't quite sure, maybe she was silly too.
He grinned when she said she was pretty and nodded his head in agreement. Anything he had to say seemed to get stuck on his tongue as he looked at her. He supposed it was a pretty dress but somehow felt a little odd about admitting he liked the color pink.

"I'm a Sourire!" She beamed at him once again. It didn't connect that perhaps that extra a wasn't lending itself to clarity.
She stopped and looked at the boy, a look of wonder written across her face. "No birdy?" She furrowed her brow wondering what in the world this thing with wings was, but quickly shrugged and grinned, "You're a Kasch!"
Bored of the merry go round already Sourire slowly crawled down. Once level with her new friend she looked around and asked him, "What we do now?"

Kasch's mind fluttered to the nest he was working on when Sourire said the word birdy. He toddled over to it taking hold of the edge and dragging it over to the girl. "Can you weave?" he asked. He moved aside so she could see into the box, the grass and twigs seeming to peek out.
His little hands picked up what was supposed to be the base but he frowned. The more he looked at it the more he thought it looked like...well, it looked like string wrapped around sticks. He wanted to make a nest for his bird but he didn't see how they weaved sticks together with grass. Sticks didn't bend, instead they broke. Grass didn't tie, instead it broke too.
His eyes looked at Sourire, maybe she knew something. Silently pleading with her to know how to make a nest or something useful, he handed his creation to her. "Sourire help Kasch, now?" He had helped her, it was only right she return the favor.

Sourire examined the pretty nest, oohing and aahing before she realized that this boy was asking her for help. However, she knew not what the strange word "weave" could entail, so she stared at him perplexed, scratching her forhead in thought.
And, before she was to give up, she found a familiar brown leather shoe beside her. It was about time that Atticus had arrived by her side, and she knew that her dady, surely the smartest man in the world would know the answer. "A'cuss weave!" She exclaimed, failing to exclaim the project any further.
"Weave, Sourire?" asked Atticus taking the pile of sticks and grass into his hand. "Why do you need to weave this?" Truth be told, he was stalling, now finding the same roadblock as Kasch had; that sticks broke upon bending and grass tore upon tying.
"For a Kasch!" Declared Sourire, pointing at her new friend.

"For my bird! I'm watching him until he's ready to fly away," Kasch explained looking up at Atticus. He wasn't sure what to think of the man, so he looked back at Sourire. "I tried to ask a bird for help but it flew away."
His face fell, frowning as he mentioned that. He really did think he should be able to talk to all birds but only a few seemed to hear him. More or less he often only understood a few words of what they said. Pigeons were especially hard to understand, most of their words were simply "coo" and he didn't know what that meant.
"Can anyone help?" he finally asked the two, pleading with them.
