I have lost all sense of home, having moved about so much. It means to me now -- only that place where the books are kept. - John Steinbeck
Silas was quite as fond of libraries as he was of bookstores. There is, of course, something to be said for owning a book, but no one who loves knowledge can argue against the glory of an institution dedicated to sharing as widely and freely as possible. The gentleman was perched, primly, at a small study table, with a small pile of archane looking volumes surrounding him. He'd found libraries in Gaia to be in general quite as impressively varied in the books they contained as the bookstores. A small leather bound notebook sat on the desk beside him, and he occassionally noted something in it absently with a pen and never seemed to leave his right hand. He would occassionally stand, and wonder off into the stacks of books apparently entirely absorbed in whatever process of thought he was following, and fetch some book or another back with him to add to his growing pile. Settled quietly behind a stack of books on the desk, was a small feien. He was reading as well, though it was a smaller paperback book and was apprently entirely unrelated to anything Silas was doing. Now and again, the gentleman would glance up, as if to assure himself that the feien was still present, before continuing his research. Both appeared entirely satisfied with complete silence.

Blithe had come to the library for something particular but, upon arrival, she had promptly forgotten what it was and why she had brought her feien along with her. Neither Alaw nor Edwyn seemed to mind though. Afterall, an adventure was an adventure and what could be more grand than the hundreds upon thousands of books lining the shelves of the local library?
Many things. Many things indeed.
Finally the young woman selected a book from the shelves; a large volume speaking wonders about chivalry and knights. If anything, it might only serve to inspire the winged ones who seemed determine to turn her desktop into their own miniature Camelot. Thank goodness they didn't have horses...
"Lady Blithe, might I inquire as to what you've procured for our reading pleasure?"
"Patience, brother, is a virtue. I'm certain that all will be revealed in due time."
"Yes, what he said." She nodded slowly. Any not within five feet of her might think that she was talking to herself so tiny were the two that were perched upon her shoulders. At times they almost reminded her of the cartoon angels and demons that tried to convince the charactet to do good or bad... Now that would be an interesting idea for Halloween...

Ravi, Silas noted absently, was now well into Hamlet. Either the young feien was perfectly capable of understanding Shakespearian vernacular, or he was to proud to ask his bond the definition of words and attempt to look them up later when Silas was not paying attention.
For his part, the mage would obligingly pretend later that he did not notice. He slid his glasses further up the bridge of his nose, and muttered something to himself in latin. After a moment of studying the paragraph he'd been reading, he stood slowly, still apparently turning the phrase over in his thoughts as he walked down the row of desks on a tangent to find another text.

She glanced up as she entered the row of desks, noting the man first before oddly colored eyes drifted towards the... Oh! It was a feien! The first one that she'd seen that hadn't been brought to live in her home! Of course he must be bonded to the man... The man who was heading in another direction which meant she'd just have to follow him.
"Lady..." "... Blithe?"
"Please excuse me, sir... But are you the caretaker of that little person with wings over there?" Her voice was soft carrying hints of a child-like innocence and the curiosity of a thousand cats. Perhaps he knew more about these feien... Anyone had to know more than she did, afterall.

The gentleman paused in his forward motion, and turned looking almost as if she'd startled him out of a daydream. An expression settled on his face that was somehow almost a smile even though he wasn't exactly smiling.
"I beg your pardon, madame?" He spoke softly, even more softly then usual out of respect for the place, but even so his annunciation was precise.
Somewhere behind a paperback copy of Hamlet, an orange feien was rolling his eyes.

Her teeth tugged gently on her lower lip as she re-played the words that she'd just said through her mind, picking out exactly where she might have gone wrong in saying them. Generally, she had been warned, people did things like that before they spoke. Not after.
"My apologies. I didn't mean to interrupt your thoughts." She nodded her head respectively before tilting it in the direction of the feien. "Is he bonded to you? I'm afraid I've never seen another feien outside of the two that I care for and the two that my brother-in-law tends to since they've come to live with us." A soft flush touched her cheeks. "And they are little people who posess wings, are they not?"

"Oh, no, madame I do apologise, I fear that I only recognised that I was being spoken to after it was already far too late to actually discern the words." He smiled then, a kind quiet little smile.
"You refer, to Ravi. We are indeed bonded." He bowed, slightly, in a greeting as archaic as his suit, "Dr. Silas Redbourne, at you service. Whom do I have the honour of addressing?"

"Blithe Enfys." She attempted a slight curtsy which, given her attire, may have worked better had she been wearing a skirt rather than a pair of faded denim jeans. "It is most certainly my pleasure to meet you."
The soft sound of a throat clearing came from upon her shoulder. She turned, first to Alaw and then to Edwyn; the throat clearer. "These are my companions, Alaw and Edwyn." She gestured to each in turn as they each bowed their heads in return greetings.

He accepted her attempted curtsy without comment, though some barely contained amusement sparkled in his eyes. He returned the nods of Alaw and Edwyn. "A pleasure to make your aquaintence, Alaw, Edwyn, Ms Enfys."
He glanced over his shoulder, at where his feien sat. "Ravi rather prefers to introduce himself as he likes."
He said it just a touch louder then the very soft voice he had been using, and an irritated sounding voice drifted back from the desk in answer, "I'm reading."

"You may call me Blithe, Dr. Redbourne. I don't think I can truly recall anyone ever calling me Ms. Enfys." That soft smile returned to her lips, curving slightly in the corners to give her a contradicting innocently impish appearance.
Large blue eyes settled on the doctor from beneath locks of long, ebony hair. He seemed like a fine fellow; polite, curteous, well-mannered. "'Tis our pleasure to meet you as well, Sir Redbourne. Pray tell, are you a knight?"
A pale brow lofted beneath a curly lock of silver hair as amethyst eyes sparkled with curiosity matching that of his winged companion. "He doesn't exactly look like a knight, does he?"
Her cheeks flushed a pale rose color once more. "I'm afraid you'll have to forgive them. I've flooded their thoughts with fanciful fairytales from the moment they arrived. We came today to see if we could find a bit of fact within the Arthurian legends."

The gentleman smiled warmly, "No, I am not a knight, merely an untitled Doctor."
There was a thud, as of a book closing and falling onto its side, and a small orange feien landed heavily on Silas' shoulder, frowning and folding his arms, "Knights don't look like they do in those pictures anymore you know."
Silas sighed very quietly, almost unnoticably, and murmured, "That's a narrow view of things, Ravi."
The feien ignored him, "You're a knight, if someone knights you. It doesn't matter what you look like."
His bond gave up and settled his hazel eyes on Blithe instead, "And did you find what you were looking for," and he hesitated slightly, as though he had to correct himself mentally before saying the name, "Blithe?"

She shook her head slowly, sending soft curls of color slipping alongside her face as the movement. "Nay, I'm afraid that the books we came in search of are listed as 'Out' with no idea as to when they'll be 'In'. We have no worries, of course. Often enough the imagination itself serves just fine in place of forgotten facts."
Alaw's dark brow furrowed as his eyes fixed upon the brightly colored feien. "I disagree wholeheartedly. A knight is not a knight simply because someone said so. A knight is made of what is inside as well as one's actions towards others." He nodded slowly. That was, afterall, what Blithe had told them.
It was Edwyn who piped up afterwards, a slightly impish grin gracing his lips, "A modern day knight might look like the pictures should he find himself jousting at a faire... Or at a costume party."

It was amazing, how the gentleman and his feien seemed to manage to carry on two seperate conversations, with one riding on the shoulder of the other. Ravi answered with exaggerated patience that suggested he wasn't particularly patient at all, "No, a person is defined by what is inside them and their actions towards others. A knight, is a person holding the title of knight, who has been therefore knighted by someone with a higher title. All re-enactments and costume parties aside."
Meanwhile, Silas appeared as remarkably adept at tuning out his feien as the small fellow was at ignoring his bond. "Indeed, dreams are quite as important as facts, and oft times somewhat more inspiring. I am sorry, however, that you've not found the texts you sought. I admitt that I find it somewhat vexing when I've prepared myself to set about a direction of inquiry only to be myself thwarted by lack of the necessary materials."

Amazing, but understandable. Blithe herself had become somewhat accustomed to carrying on conversations of her own while Edwyn and Alaw talked with one another. What made it so different now that they were talking to the little one perched upon the gentleman's shoulder?
Alaw's wings gave a little flutter as he straightened himself upon Blithe's shoulder. "A person can be knightly without being a knight. There are characteristics that people may posess that knights were once believed to hold dear. That is what I was talking about." He nodded slowly, leaning forward to look past his 'fair lady' in order to see if Edwyn would be backing him up. 'Dwyn simply shrugged his shoulders.
"Dead ends often lead us in other interesting directions though. For example, had we found the books that we came here in search of our paths, yours and mine, would not have crossed in such a manner." A smile curved the corners of her lips once more, oddly colored eyes dancing. "As vexing as it may be, all things happen for a reason... Did you find what you were searching for today, Dr. Redbourne?"

"Then you should have said knightly, and not a knight." Ravi said blandly. "If that's what you were talking about, then, yeah." The small feien shrugged Personally he wasn't a fan of old legends about knights and fair ladies and courtly romance and chivalry.
Silas looked slightly embarased at the lady's suggestion that their meeting was fortuitous. The gentleman was polite but not, apparently, particularly dashing. "Ah...well for the most part I have, yes. I rarely find research to be an entirely linear path. I've found some of what I was seeking and some things that I had not thought to look for until they presented themselves."
