Jonah entered the ring, taking his place on the north side of the arena. Everything seemed pretty standard, much like the Earth Rumble 6 arena he had visited on occasion, but this one had water pools and fire pits. Not much else seemed appealing to Jonah, other than the slab of earth he could use for bending.
He stood ready in a wide but sturdy stance, ready to begin the battle. Jonah had a funny feeling in his gut, but he figured it to be excitement for his first match against a fire bender. It would definitely be good practice, much like the training he had done to get his skills to where they are.
"I can do this... Just remember how I trained..." Jonah thought to himself, wondering where his opponent was.

Tsuzuki ran into the arena. She had an air of confidence about here that wasn't normally seen especially for someone being late. "Sorry," she yelled to her opponent, "But they were having this sale on whistles and I couldn't decide if I wanted the cat one or the seal one!"
She stood in her usual tiger stance. She had never fought against an earth bender before and was looking forward to it. 'Okay, just keep a level head, remember their element, remember your element, and everything will be fine,' She reassured herself.
She then sent out a jet of fire towards her opponent. It wasn't anything big but she knew what she was doing. Tsuzuki then shot up fire from their respective pits and sent large waves of fire shooting towards him.

Seeing the fire jets rush towards him gave his adrenaline reserves a little kick, Jonah reacting to the attack by raising a stone wall for the first jet and two more to stop the fire streams. Feeling the heat from the attacks was a new experience for Jonah, and he found it relatively exciting. This was his first official match against a fire bender, and it was just another step on the ladder of his bending training.
"Sales? She's going to be a tough one to figure out..."
Jonah's counter came in the form of a simple earth bending technique that he had practiced, jumping at the first stone wall and kicking it. The result was the stone wall sliding along the ground towards the fire bender. His next move was turning one of the other remaining walls into a large rock, Jonah kicking that one in the same direction, but a little to the left of the sliding wall. The last wall was shaped into a stalagmite-like rock spike, one that Jonah kicked off to the right of the sliding wall; all three earth weapons left the fire bender with a limited time to decide which way to dodge, and which earth weapon would make a hit.

Tsuzuki sent a jet of her fire into the ground, propelling her up quickly. She had almost cleared the rock in front of her but ended up getting her foot behind it as she went up. She tripped and fell on her face where she recieved a few cuts but nothing major.
She then twirled herself on the ground, kicking out different jets of fire towards Jonah. They were behind propelled by her speed and went faster than usual. As she let go of the last one, she followed right behind it. It made a perfect screen so that Jonah couldn't see her. At the last second, she jumped upwards and let down another enormous amount of fire towards Jonah while propelling herself upwards again.

Several jets of fire came towards Jonah, each of which were blocked by him raising a stone wall. It did no good for his opponent to fight fire with stone, just as water had the same uselessness against air.
A simple counter was angling the earth to protect Jonah, and that was what he did. As the stone held its own against the flame, Jonah had a few seconds to think about how to counter a move like this. Since she was in close poximity, a stone spike could be effective. It was the only idea he had, so he decided to go with it. While holding the stone shield in place, Jonah used his other arm to raise two stone spikes out of the eath, both of which shot straight through the fire jet and were on a direct collision course for Jonah's opponent.

As soon as she saw the rocks coming up to her, she immediately directed the blasts to her right, flying to the left. She landed on the ground gracefully, realizing that using fire blasts wouldn't help her at all. She carefully thought out her strategy and put it into effect.
Tsuzuki sent out her fire blasts, at first directing them towards Jonah, but then, at the last second, redirecting them towards the pools of water. This heated the water, just as she had planned. She made the waters bubble and rise as far as she could. The water spilled all across the battle field. She felt it soak into her shoes as it soaked into the ground; it was luke(sp?) warm.
Tsuzuki grinned. She wasn't bothered by a little hot water but if Jonah stepped away, his feet would be severely burned making his earth bending weak.

Feeling the heat of the water was something new, but it wasn't nearly as hot as flames were; nevertheless, it was distracting. In order to avoid being burnt by water, Jonah raised the earth underneath his feet, creating a little platform to stay away from the water. This fight was surely getting interesting, but now Jonah didn't have anywhere solid to move.
"If I can't move, then the earth can move for me."
Jonah shifted his movement, throwing his arms towards his opponent to cause a miniature earth wave that sent the water in a wave towards his opponent. He then shifted the earth to move himself along a disc of earth to the other earth field in the ring; this was also Jonah's attack maneuver, tilting the earth disc in a way that it would slam right into Tsuzuki while he was still on it.
Once his little fly-by maneuver was done, he hopped off the disc onto the second stone field. With solid ground under his feet, he morphed the stone disc into an Earth Kingdom stone coin, something that would serve as his weapon.

Tsuzuki thought fast and, as soon as the rock with Jonah came towards her, she jumped up. He was moving too fast towards her to slow down and she took the risk when he was only an inch in front of her. She sent out an enormous fire blast into his face.
When she landed again, she couldn't get a good look at him as her sweat dripped into her eyes but she knew he had a good weapon. She used her fire now in a defensive way. She drew the fire from the pits around her and created a huge tornado of fire.

Jonah was at a loss as to guess what she planned to do with the flame swirl, not knowing if she could see through it or not. The little stunt she tried to pull in mid-flight cost Jonah a minor burn along his forearm, but it was not as bad as to affect his bending. He tried to make an informed decision as how to attack an opponent he couldn't see, but as always, his moves were a gamble. As he tried to narrow down a decision, he gave thought as to the location of his opponent. Judging from the size of the flame swirl, he supposed his opponent was in the center in order to keep efficient bending in progress to support the flame. With a target place in mind, Jonah decided on a plan of action.
While he stood the earth coin in place, he stamped his foot on the earth pad to create a line of stone spikes directly into the swirl of flame. In the split second he bent the earth, he thought of the fire bender's source of power: the fire pits. With a quick motion of his hands, he raised two large rocks and dropped one on each of the fire pits, stomping the majority of the flames out through a lack of oxygen; however, a tiny fragment of the flame remained as how the fire pits functioned.

It previously hadn't taken Tsuzuki much consentration to keep the tornado going but, after the pits were cloged, it took a lot of her mental ablity to keep it going. As she saw the stone spikes flying towards her, she grinned; this was exactly what she had wanted him to do.
She stepped onto the ground hard, creating huge bursts of flames that joined the tornado that had greatly diminished in size. This made the tornado close at the top and become more of a sphere around her. As the stone spikes came, they entered the orbit of the fire sphere. She concentrated hard as she sent them whirling around the sphere right back at Jonah with twice the speed.

Seeing his own move redirected was a little strange coming from a fire bender, but Jonah had plenty of tricks up his arsenal of earth bending. Using a quick fluid motion, Jonah positioned the stone coin between himself and his redirected attacks. Each of the projectiles made a 'thump' against his stone shield, then dropped to the ground.
"Odd, I thought that would work..." But then Jonah had another idea. Using his earth bending motions, he raised each of the stone spikes and fused them onto the face of the stone coin, essentially making a huge spiked-shield.
"Let's try again..." Jonah hopped onto the blunt side of the stone coin, using it like a hoverboard with his earth bending. He maneuvered the coin on top of the sphere of fire, spikes facing down. As an exit strategy, Jonah raised a column of stone to jump on, after he dropped the coin on top of the fire sphere. The weight of the stone coin alone would not only not move under fire control, but the stone spikes it possessed now would pose a problem for the one inside the fire sphere.
As Jonah jumped off of his stone coin and onto the stone column, the spiked coin dropped onto the fire sphere.

Tsuzuki saw this and knew that there was no way she could deflect it. 'When the going gets tough,' she thought to herself as she pushed the fireshield up, momentarily lifting the coin, then jetted herself to the side.
She landed hard on the ground which didn't feel great but it was better then being crushed by the stone coin. She got up quickly, realizing how close she had just come to death. 'Alright,' she thought angrily, trying very unsuccessfully to keep her fire bending down.
Tsuzuki had had problems all of her life containing her fire bending and quite a few explosions had resulted from it. It was about to happen again. The black haze came over her eyes as her fire came creeping around her in all directions. Suddenly, there was a white flash; an explosion had filled the arena.

Jonah felt an uneasy presence in the air as the fire began to build. Whatever was going to come his way, it would not be pretty. With the white flash, Jonah had feared the worst.
"Oh s**t!" Raising his arms into a blocking motion, he had created a little hardened stone shield that covered the front, sides, and top of his body. The fire passed around his shield, but the heat was leaving first degree burns on his backside, particularly around his back and heels.
"Where does a fire bender learn something like that? That probably didn't come out pretty..." After The explosion seemed to pass, Jonah opened up an eye slot in his sheild, trying to understand what had become of his surroundings, and what happened to his opponent.

Tsuzuki sat on the ground, sweating. It had hurt worse this time than others. She looked with her perifeal vision at her arms. They were burned again along with her legs. She was in a purely deffensive state and couldn't move very much. But, she could still fight and if anything came her way, it would be engulfed in the flames that were flickering around her.
She said, a hard voice without any trace of the cheerfulness she had previously shown, "I can still do this. Come on. Give me your worst."
She obviously couldn't take what could be this earth bender's "worst" but she didn't care. She wanted to win now.
