Marshall wasn't sure what happened today. Yesterday he met Alec. The day before that, Gaius. But today was just a blur. Like a bomb went off and the only thing left to do was watch the bodies incinerate around you. Or going to a movie theatre and even though the projectors broken, sitting there in the dark any way.

...That was just an attempt to say in a poetic sense that Marshall was, indeed, bored out of his ever-loving skull on this fine day.

Wandering down to the beach, he was surprised to find a brown shack with stools, cheap lights, and probably the biggest reason people would come here: Liquor! Marshall was never much of a drinker, and in shame, he had never had a drink. Ever. Not even a beer.

"...Huh..." he murmered, looking at the oddly-shaped and strangely colored bottles.

Two days had been sufficient time to recover from the inaugural hangover, and if Sid was truly a smart man he would have taken a few more before returning to the bar. He had his excuses, namely that he only intended to spirit a few bottles away to his duplex for later. He was perfectly capable of showing restraint, as he kept telling himself as he awkwardly trudged through the sand. His kept his head down, paying close attention to where he placed his cane with every step.

He didn't see Marshall until he reached the bar and looked up. So much for being sneaky. "You lost, kid?"

Marshall turned around, greeted with the sight of a grey-haired man with a 5'o clock stubble and a cane. But, most importantly, he was ANOTHER normal person on the island.

Heh...Guess there's more of us that I thought.

"Um...Not really. Just kinda figuring out what to drink." Marshall said, picking up a bottle of Captain Morgan's. It was a clear liquid, and it looked and sounded just like water.

Couldn't be THAT hard to drink it, right?

Sid leaned back in mild surprise when Marshall turned around. No furs, no feathers, no scales... He'd never even thought about running into other normal people. He looked at the bottle of rum, then to Marshall's face, then back to the rum, and Marshall again. Conclusion made, he pointed past him.

"Might wanna get a glass," he said. "Or two. Make it two."

"O-Okay..." Marshall said, not sure why he was playing bar-tender all of the sudden. Still, it wasn't much of a hastle. He rummaged around under the bar for a few moments, finding some empty bottles and stuff, and finally found two glasses that weren't completely filthy. He put them on the counter top, filling them to almost the brim, unaware of how much the proper ammount was.

"Sooo...Um...You been here long?" Marshall asked the much older man as he picked up his drink, spilling some on his hand. He took a quick whiff of it and cringed as his nostrils burned.

What the hell was I thinking?!

"A few days," Sid said, leaning against the bar. "Still adjusting, you know?" As if all they had to get used to was the climate. He very carefully picked up his own glass, watching Marshall closely as he cringed. "You sure you're much of a straight rumkind of guy?

He nodded his head towards the rows of bottles. "I mean, I could fix you something with a little umbrella in it, easy."

He tried not to make it sound like a jibe, but then he could barely keep himself from laughing as he said it.

Marshall prayed that his embarassment only remained inside, and din't some how weasle its way outside onto his face. Yes, he probably WOULD prefer one of those fruity drinks with a little umbrella on it, but now he was afraid that he'd look like some sort of sissy!

"Um...N-No, straight Rum's fine. I'm Marshall, by the way." he said, taking another whiff of the drink. Nope, it still stung like a bee trapped inside of his brain.

"Yeah...I've been here about a week now...I've seen a dragon, a shark-man, and racoon girl. You?" Marshall asked, wondering if it was too late to ask for a Coke instead.

He took a large sip, enough to reducing the liquid left in the glass to what would have been an acceptable level to begin with. "I'm Sid," he said. "And I'd kinda prefer not to act like this is some kind of goddamned safari. S'one thing when the critters are sitting on the roof of the jeep, it's just ******** up when they're talking to you and sharing drinks and whatnot."

He shook his head, sending his far-too-long ponytail swaying.

"No point getting all defensive about it..." Marshall muttered, forgetting what drink he had and pratically chugging it down. His eyes buldged, his throat burning beyond reason. He slammed the glass back on the table, swearing he saw flames escape his mouth.

HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE ENJOY THIS?!?!

Marshall tried to regain his composure, but after that...He was offically just a kid.

Sid said nothing to that, he even managed not to laugh. Instead he pushed himself away from the bar and went to the other side. "Believe it or not, the burn gets to be pleasant after a while. Just not in the next few minutes, sorry."

He perhaps should have said something earlier, but then he wouldn't have been able to see that. To make up for it, he very carefully bent down to open the fridge. It wasn't clear what he was pouring until he slid a glass of milk over to Marshall. Not even a good White Russian, just milk. Such a waste.

After standing back up Sid was relieved to find his back had still yet to give out on him. He tried not to let it show and said, "That may help a little, but nothing's gonna make it stop except time. And practice. Actually, practice only makes you stop wincing. Oh, and rum? That stuff sneaks up and hits you like the angry boyfriend you were never told about- hard... and sometimes with a sock full of quarters. Only not literally. Forget that last part."

The way the words tumble out of his mouth could be almost entrancing as it is confusing.

"Sooo...What you're getting at is...That wasn't a smart move?" Marshall asked, picking up the milk and sipping on it, enjoying the fresh dairy over the alcohol greatly.

"So, Sid, what exactly did you do before coming here?" Marshall asked, trying to make small talk, his stomach feeling a little...weird for some reason.

Is it SUPPOSED to burn?!
PostPosted: Sun Sep 10, 2006 9:10 pm

"You'll see," he said to Marshall's first question, grinning. He took a moment to get some Coke to add to the rum. It wasn't like his teeth were ever going to be white again, anyway.

"As for before... I did odd jobs, mostly. I was always of the philosophy it's not good for a guy to stay in any one field of employment for too long." And, apparently, so were his various former employers- at least where he was concerned.

"You feeling any better? Or different?"

"Um...Well my stomach feels like its on fire...My head feels a lil' light..." Marshall wasn't really able to stay on tract, putting his now empty milk glass down on on the table. Ooooohhhh this was not going to end well, he felt it in his bones.

"Sooo...Whats good for a first-timer, since Rum doesn't seem to work for me all that much..."
PostPosted: Sun Sep 10, 2006 9:45 pm

"I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself, kid," he said, putting the bottle of rum back. "You just drank about three shots worth there. All at once."

He snickered as he took a small sip of his drink. "Then again, so did I. We'll compare and contrast in a few minutes, how bout that?"

"Okay...Three shots...Is that a lot? It does sound like a lot...Or maybe nuthin'...Hey, didja put some thing in meh milk?" Marshall said, head spinning, using the bar for support. He slowly made it to the other side of the bar, slowly taking a seat and letting his head fall to the bar. He was NOT feeling good.

"Hey...Sid...Y'know whatcha gonna beh later? I mean...There's no use fightin' it...Besides, even if we took down dis Moreau feller...It wouldn't matter much, would it? I mean...It could be worse, y'know...With Aliens and communist and having to read old tabloid magazines..."

...Yes. Marshall was the rambling drunk. This was decided.
