"Come on, Ash!"
The lioness had grown in the two months since she had met Ashki. She had lost most of her baby fat and in turn was slim with sleek fur, though her eyes were as bright as ever. That particular evening, she had decided to show her friend the night sky. She knew that he had seen it many times before, but the clarity that Pride Rock provided was something that no lion should miss out on.
So, she was leaping nimbly up the beaten path that lead up to the point of Pried Rock. Kit had only been up here once before, but the way was engraved in her memory. Occasionally she would get ahead of herself and put on a burst of speed, eager to get to the top, but she'd quicky slow down and make sure Ash was right behind her.
The best part was the fact that he didn't know why they were climbing Pride Rock. She had been sure not to slip out any hints, keeping the entire night shrouded in mystery. Her green eyes sparkling, she stopped and waited for him, watching as he followed.

During the two months that he had been with Kit, the purple lion had watched her grow from a pretty, overgrown cub to a beautiful lioness that was seemingly never missing from his side. And, like her, he had also grown, though more in his personality than in his body. Ash was more confident, more proud and sure of himself than he had ever imagined he could be. And it was all because of his good friend.
"I'm coming!" he called forward to her, smiling and panting as he leaped up towards the tip of Pride Rock after his friend. She hadn't given him much of a clue as to what she was planning, and so he was curious and anxious to get to the top to find out. It had to be something extraordinary or extremely good, as Kit seemed excited.
"But what do we have to hurry for?" he called, trying to get the secret out of her as they continued to climb.

Kit grinned slyly at him, moving so that her nose was almost touching his own. In that time, she had also grown more flirtatious - in a very subtle way. She made sure to do nothing that made her friend feel awkward, but the adolescent had definitely developed more grown up allure. Fluttering her eyelashes innocently, she tilted her head, smiling. "Oh, you'll see," she said in a sneaky tone. She paused for a moment before swinging around and continuing to hurry up the great rock, her steps light and carefree.
Finally they reached the top - a smooth, flat surface that made her sore paws relax. Kit waited for a moment as Ashki made it as well before padding happily to the very tip of the jutting rock. She plopped herself down, tilting her head back, and once Ashki took a seat next to her, she murmured, "Look up."
Indeed, there were millions of stars swarming above their heads - some small, light a firefly dotted against the night sky, and others large, glowing vividly. She smiled warmly, her eyes wandering over the various constellations. Not only were there more stars than she had ever seen before, but you could even see the other galaxies behind the stars, if you looked hard enough. They were streaks of blue, just a shade lighter than the rest of the sky, but it was clear what they were.
Her eyes sparkled and she looked to Ashki, wondering what he thought.

Ashki hadn't noticed his friend's little flirtings quite as much--she had become very sneaky--and so he had found himself more at ease around her, able to just be himself and share his feelings with her. It was a nice thing, always having her around like that. It made him happy, happier than he had ever dreamed.
Still panting, he finally made his way up to the top after Kit, his paws continuing in their movement as he trailed after her then afterwards took a seat next to her. He looked at her for a moment before she told him to look up, in which case he did. When his eyes reached the sky, he simply couldn't believe his eyes. Above him was just about the most beautiful thing he had ever seen in his life.
Ash had seen the night sky before, but never like this. It was almost as if the stars were shining brighter just for the two of them, just for this night.
"Oh my..." he gasped, his mouth nearly agape with awe. It was simply incredible. "I've never seen anything like it," he whispered, as if speaking too loud would cause the image to flutter away like a skiddish butterfly.
"This is amazing, Kit."

Kit smiled softly, extremely glad that Ash felt the same way about it as she did. She subconsciously leaned against him, her shoulder pressed gently against his own. "It is, isn't it?" she mused quietly, green eyes bright. She had developd an affinity for the night sky - the stars, especially. She had been planning this night for several days, wanting it to be absolutely perfect.
As she sat there with him, feeling each breath he took, something stirred in her belly. It wasn't the first time she had felt it, but she had noticed it growing stronger as time went on. The lioness let out a relaxed breath, trying to stifle the butterflies, but they wouldn't settle down. Turning her muzzle to look at Ash, her eyes fell upon him, right as a falling star shot through the sky.
She did not see the shooting star, but saw her friend in a new light, finally beginning to recognize what the butterflies meant.

Ashki nodded, simply entranced with the whole night sky. He had seen it many times before, but never from this point, never like this. It seemed that this whole thing had almost been planned, but he thought that only for a second and didn't dwell on the thought much. Kit probably just saw how beautiful the sky was and decided to show him as well.
As the shooting star bolted across the night sky, his eyes lit up with new enthusiasm. He had never felt the sort of passion for any land that he had felt in that moment. It was simply amazing.
Grinning, he nudged her gently and looked at her. "Make a wish, Kit!" he said happily. After those words left his mouth, he noticed their faces, and how close they were. Kit was leaning against him, something he hadn't noticed up until now. It felt... different. She had leaned against him before, but there was an uneasy feeling in his gut now. It made him slightly nervous, so he lowered his ears and glanced back up at the sky, trying to play it off.

In those few moments she felt like nothing in the world could make her look away from him as she studied her friend, noticing little details about him for the first time - like the curve of black that arched underneath his eyes, or the tuft of white fur in his ears. When he spoke, though, she blinked and looked up, a smile crossing her lips as she saw the last traces of the shooting star. Kit closed her eyes and made a silent wish, her heart beginning to hammer against her chest.
"I made my wish," she murmured softly. "Did you make yours?" She lifted her muzzle, her sparkling green eyes staring into the blue ones that belonged to her friend. Her tail flicked over his and curved around his side; her breath seemed baited as she waited for a response.

During the time that they had been at Pride Rock and that Kit had grown, the purple male had noticed certain things about his friend as well. She was slimmer, more beautiful than before. Her eyes were no longer just the eyes of a friend, they were the eyes that he looked into everyday and the eyes that made him smile whenever he saw them. And especially now, as they sparkled the way they did...
"But there was only one star. It was your wish," he stated firmly, nodding his head slightly. He had learned that one shooting star meant one wish, and he had given up that wish to her. He felt that she deserved better and would make better use of it.
Suddenly he felt something curl around him, touch him. He peered at his friend, trying to act like nothing had happened. But he couldn't ignore it. Kit had put her tail around him. Wasn't that something only couples did? Or, at least, that's who he had seen do that anyways. So what did it mean now, Kit doing things like that? He also noticed that she wasn't taking her eyes off of him. Was she expecting something from him?
"Uhm..." he mumbled uneasily, at a loss for words.

When he told her that it was her wish, she looked confused for a moment before realizing that he had, in fact, given up a wish - for her. Her heart fluttered again and she looked away, her eyes falling to her paws. The butterflies swarmed faster than ever and she began to stammer incoherently, "I.. uhm... see..."
Finally she took a deep breath and looked up at him, her eyes wide and sincere. A new and unexpected guilt was piercing in her chest. The lioness suddenly felt embarassed about having brought him up here with alterior motives. He was her best friend, and he deserved to know the truth. With her tail still laid across his, she looked away, trying to find the right words.
"I..." For a moment she thought she knew what to say, but the words disappeared as abruptly as they came. She swallowed again and looked to him, conflict in her eyes. How could she say this? Would she lose his friendship? His trust - his confidence?
Actions spoke louder than words and she finally settled on craning her neck to brush her forehead across the tuft of fur on his cheek, finally settling in the nook between his jaw and his throat. She held the position and though her touch was warm, her eyes were closed tightly and she was silently praying for her wish to come true.

Ash's ears perked forward slightly as his friend stammered with her words. He could tell that she was trying to tell him something, but just what he wasn't sure. What was there to tell, and why was she having so much trouble saying what she wanted to say? Surely she knew that she could tell him anything, anything at all, and he wouldn't judge her on it?
He continued to just sit there, his blue eyes studying her as she continued to stammer. His heart beat hard against his chest as he waited for her to say what she wanted to, the anxiety of it all getting to him.
Finally, though, finally she did something. It wasn't words or anything, but rather actions. His eyes widened slightly as Kit nuzzled head against his cheek then under his chin. What did it all mean? Was it just a friendly nuzzle or...?
"Kit," he whispered, ears falling back uneasily. The male as going to ask her what she was doing, but suddenly he changed his mind. Something clicked, and he simply purred, leaning against her and licking her ears gently with his smooth tongue. His tail curled around hers and he smiled. He couldn't believe this was happening to him. Never in all his life had he thought something like this would happen...
"Kit," he said again, this time his voice soft and full of his fondness for her. "Are you sure?" he asked, all of this just too surreal for him to believe it all.

He didn't freak out.
The lioness felt breathless again. As he ran his tongue over her ears and purred, all of the butterflies swarmed up again. Was this real? Was this... happening? Everything went so smoothly! And... could he really be returning her feelings? Was there a mutual connection there that let him know what she was thinking, even if she couldn't find the words? Kit hoped so.
She purred, a strong and resonanting sound. Her head remained pressed to him and she relished in the feeling of his tail around her own. For a few moments - was it minutes? At the moment, she could only measure time by heartbeats - she remained in that position, soaking all of this up. Would it be like a fairytale ending?
Finally getting up the courage to speak, she pulled away, though her body was still pressed against his. Swallowing, she gave a soft smile and gazed into his eyes, allowing all the affection - and love - she felt for him to be apparent for the first time. "I love you, Ash," she murmured softly. "I... I was so afraid that I'd scare you. I was afraid that things might change... and I didn't want them to change. I love you, and I love your friendship... you mean the world to me. But I couldn't keep it bottled up anymore." Offering a soft laugh, she added, "I felt like I was going to explode."
Though she was hoping for more, she said tentatively, "We're still friends, right?"
Just to make sure.

Ashki had had a pretty good idea of what was going through Kit's head, or at least the thought he did. He had seen some of the other couples on Pride Rock, and how they were sometimes all lovey dovey and cuddling like this. He had studied them a little, intrigued, and so it was a bit natural now that he knew the signs. It was just amazing that he had actually had to use that knowledge for himself!
Still purring, he nuzzled his friend once more even after she pulled away. His baby blue eyes sparkled with a new light, one that had only been discovered just a few minutes ago. It was just amazing how at ease he felt now that everything had happened and there was no more worrying.
As Kit said that she loved him and that he meant the world to her, his heart just fluttered up in his chest. He had never even dreamed that something like this would happen to him, that he would capture the eyes of such a beautiful female, and with so many other males around! It made him proud of himself, made him feel like the luckiest lion alive.
"You could never scare me, Kit.. I love you too much," he said softly, his feelings for her coming out in the open as well.
When she asked if they were still friends, Ash blinked for a moment. "Of course," he purred. "We will always be friends." He smiled warmly at her and licked her ears again, his stomach still filled with butterflies and his heart still racing a mile a minute. He didn't want this night to end; it was just so beautiful, what with the stars and Kit and their love...
"I can't believe it," he said softly, happily.

The instinctive calm feeling that she got from hearing him proclaim his love began to disappear and the lioness was beginning to become excited - almost hyper. She swallowed it and tried to contain the feeling, beaming back up at Ash. "I can't either," she murmured. "Who would've thought that I'd fall in love with the lion whose first greeting was to trip over me?" A trademark mischevious grin spread over her lips as she teased. The silver female continued to press herself against him, savouring the warmth of his body in an entirely new way. She lifted her muzzle and nipped lightly at his ears, trailing down to his cheek.
Kit paused and there was a glimmer in her eyes as she reared back onto her hind legs, pressing her soft paws against Ash's shoulder as if trying to push him down. Finally, when he relented, the two sank down to the smooth stone and she laid next to him, the tuft of fur on her cheek brushing against his. She made sure to keep their tails intertwined and she let out a soft, blissful breath.
"You know, I think shooting stars are magic," she mused. "How else would my wish have come true?" She shot him a small smile, a purr rumbling in her throat.

Ashki grinned and growled playfully at the lioness as she began to talk about how she couldn't believe that she had fallen in love with the one who had tripped over her in their first meeting. It was true, who could have ever thought? But he was glad that it had happened. He was happy, at peace, and he felt that Kit was too.
Purring as she nipped at his ears, he nuzzled her gently, loving the warmth of her body combined with his. It just felt good to cuddle with her and to just be with her. Whenever he was around her, Ash just felt whole and simply wonderful. It was a feeling he hoped to never have himself ridden of.
As Kit put her forepaws against his shoulder and pushed, he couldn't help but to just go with her and sink down to the ground with her. A purr resonated in his throat as he licked her cheek affectionately.
"I've always loved you, Kit," he admitted, now that their feelings were both out in the open. "I just didn't know if I could tell you. You are just so beautiful... I figured that maybe you had caught the eye of another male." His ears went back against his skull as he said that. As he had watched his friend grow, he had known that he probably couldn't hold on to her forever. She would find a mate eventually and start a family of her own. But he had never thought that he would be that lion to be with her. "But now.. I just love you so much," he finished, figuring that she didn't want to hear his sappy story from before their confessions.
Smiling warmly at her, he scooted a little bit so that they could cuddle together, his tail curling protectively around hers. He sighed happily and just lay there with her, thinking that things couldn't have gotten any better than this.

A smile of pure bliss graced her lips as he spoke to her. She listened, a bit sheepishly, as he confided that he thought that she'd have found someone else and that she was beautiful. Blushing beneath her fur, she laid a paw across his own in the closest a lion can be to holding hands. "You were so cute when we met," she said softly. "It just sort of... drew me to you. You weren't like the other lions. There was something different about you, and I can see now that I was right. You've grown into such a handsome lion..." she breathed out.
"But that doesn't matter," she said with a small smile. "You could be the ugliest lion in the savannah and I'd still love you with all my heart."
She went quiet for a few moments, comforted by his warmth, glad that she could enjoy it in a whole new light without feeling guilty about it. Kit subconsciously snuggled against him, everything about her radiating happiness. "I love you too," she finally whispered. "More than I ever thought possible."
Lifting her muzzle to the sky, she allowed her her eyes to trail over the stars. "Look!" she said, her breath caught for a moment. Carefully - slowly - she lifted her paw, pointing towards a small cluster of stars that formed two hearts intertwined, crossing over each other in the middle. "Even the heavens are smiling for us," Kit whispered, twisting her head to look into his eyes again.
