When you are beginning a new fight for the round, and your opponent hasn't posted in the thread even once so far, please remember to send your opponent a PM to notify them that you have a match.

RULES

Clash
During a match, anything goes (within the bounds of logic, reason, and common sense) unless outlined otherwise in the rules. Because this tournament is designed to be flexible and a place for roleplayers of all backgrounds, it is simply impossible to account for everything. As such, questionable situations or "loopholes" will be discussed as they arise.

What we have here, is a list of all the discussions, refinements, and backhanding of loophole-exploiters that we've gone through so far. Read, enjoy, and be educated. You will all be expected to know this material, just like you would be expected to know any of the rules.

Clash
No outside intervention (friends, familiars, summons, or otherwise) will be permitted. Should a tournament participant interfere in a match, he or she will be disqualified from the tournament. Should a spectator interfere, he or she will be banned from further attending the event. Should a participant induce interference within his or her match, he or she will be disqualified.

Clarifications to this:

- Sentient weapons are not considered outside intervention unless they are able to act on their own free will. Swords that can fly and fight for themselves count. You can use them, just not allow them to do that. Weapons that activate their own abilities on a whim may also count, like a lightning staff that automatically hits anything that comes in range without the user even needing to be touching it.

- The stands are considered in-bounds. Spectator interference is still prohibited, though things such as blocking and running like hell would be allowed.

Clash
Not leaving the arena includes no teleportation, no burrowing more than ten feet below arena floor, and no jumping, hovering, or flying higher than three hundred feet. Should a fighter be driven through the floor more than ten feet or thrown higher than three hundred feet into the air by his or her opponent, said opponent is awarded the win via ring-out. Being thrown out of the colosseum by any other manner, such as through the outer walls, also constitutes a ring-out. Fighting may be done in the stands, if only to spice things up, meaning that almost the entire arena is fair game. Teleportation includes any form of disappearing and reappearing. Phasing (becoming ghostly or ethereal, changing state of matter to gas) is also banned. Leaving the material plane, shadowporting, fireporting, turning into air, and related methods of movement--even for a nanosecond--are considered illegal and are offenses up for disqualification.

Ringout DQ - Getting Out
The entire body is what matters, not pieces. You can't cut off a person's hand and toss it out. However, this rule will not apply to divided bodies. One person split his body into three pieces and sent one of them off to get a hot dog. This will not fly.

Ringout DQ - Phasing
This is pretty standard. No turning into stuff that is immaterial. Fireporting, shadowporting, turning to gas/vapor/mist/very tiny pieces of you... basically anything that isn't a solid mass of person. PARTS of you may turn into things, but not the 'center'.

The 'center' is defined as what we can refer to as 'you'. The point where you become yourself. One person tried making clones of himself, and claimed that there was no 'real' clone because they were all 'real'. This doesn't fly. There is one body, one soul, one whatever. If you make another body, one of those two is the 'main' body and all ringout rules apply there. If it dies and your 'soul' moves to the other one or whatever, that counts as DQ since your 'center' moved from point A to point B in manner of teleporting.

Turning into energy, straight out.

The key is remaining as a material being, hopefully with physiology unless you intend to toe the line.

Ringout DQ - Teleportation
Regardless of what your abilities are.
Regardless of what you got okayed with Clash six months ago that was never mentioned to anyone else.
Regardless of what you think.

Teleportation is DQ.

What is teleportation?

Moving from point A to point B with a negligable time difference. This means you can't pop out of existence and pop back in somewhere. You can't burst into flames and rain down from the sky in said flames immediately following. You can't melt into sand and then reappear from the sand behind someone (this also breaks the rule about no matter-state shifting). You can't open up a dimensional portal and step through to another place. You can't fold space over itself so that you just exist in another place without having to move. You can't stop or significantly slow time to achieve this effect. You can't move so very fast that your opponent's eyes can't keep up.

That last one is what seems to be crippling people. Well, that and the one before it. Time stops bad. Anyways... what we have here is called a 'sliding scale' system. It means that we adjust the rules to fit the situation. The rule on that last one is that if you move faster than your opponent can detect, you get slammed with it. So if they can't see you move because you're just that awesome... you lose. The speed cap is blurred form. No blinking out of sight.

Clash
NO OUT-OF-CHARACTER TEXT WILL BE PERMITTED WHATSOEVER, WHETHER ACCOMPANIED BY IN-CHARACTER TEXT OR NOT. PROBLEMS WITH THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATIONS FOR FIGHTERS AND BANNINGS FOR SPECTATORS. OOC posts detract from the mood of the roleplay, especially when following the death of a character or major event, lead to more arguments than are needed, and only add to spam a thread. Use private messages or the alotted OOC area.

Read before you post and ask questions (via PMs or OOC thread) if there is anything in your opponent's post that you do not understand. Missing or failing to understand something could cost you the match.

- Due to the changed nature of this tournament since it began (being in a guild with multiple threads rather than just one, hideous thread containing everything), OOC is allowed in fight threads if it pertains to the battle and only by the participants. Spectators are allowed to post IC, but the fighters may use OOC if they need to clarify things with each other.

- Using PMs is a good way to make sure you two are on the same page. However, if you're in the middle of a PM debate that is taking a while, make sure to declare this in the thread or else a moderator just might close the fight on you.

- If you have an issue that you need a judge to check, there's a moderator request thread. If you have an issue you wish to debate or contest with your opponent publicly so that other people can comment and so that the judges can all see, post a thread about your fight in the OOC. Both you and your opponent will be given an opportunity to speak your side of the story, and then a judgement will take place. For misunderstandings, the person who posted the thread has full legal right to revoke his statements.

Bill Nye the Science Guy
Science RULES.

This is truth. It is also what rules here. If an argument cannot be resolved through compromise, it is the perogative of the staff to dictate the resolution based upon logic and reason.

Time Limit Reinforced

Now, since the start of the tournament, we have had this rule regarding time limits in order to get people the incentives to post on time if they don't want to be disqualified. Now, some people's schedule may not have allowed this, so leniency was given in order to compensate for this. However, this rule has been abused, and as of late, has been slowing this tournament down dramatically. Therefore, as a result, all matches without a time limit will be reinforced immediately. That means this:

You have three days, that's 72 hours, to make a post after your opponent's last post. If you do not make this time limit, you will be disqualified. Only being about thirty minutes late would help, but any longer than that, you're disqualified. No exceptions.

This should either revitalize the matches or separate the lucky from the unlucky. However, do not think this rule is solid. If a match still shows abuse of even the three day rule, a notice may be made in that thread that will decrease the amount of time each person has to post, thus placing more pressure on each to get to posting. I know this will make those with little computer time disappointed, but this has been going on long enough, thus, it's best if you do not participate with your personal schedule hindering you. Just don't worry. There will be future tournaments and fights.

More revisions are going to come later, but for now, I wanted to make this one rule perfectly clear because we all want this tournament to come to an end soon, so all in matches, get to it. If you have any arguments, post them in the Moderator thread, and me and a moderator, assuming they are not part of the match with the problem, will tell those involved our advice, then maybe give a decision on how to resolve issues. Be warned, if you cannot come to a conclusion with your opponent on something, then you will unfortunately be forced to receive the opinion of the moderators who give their analysis on a match.

For example, if two people are in a psychic warfare and wondering whose power will be stronger than who, then a modifier will be placed on the battle where your psychic abilities are reduced to a smaller power, thus meaning you'll probably have to rely on another method of combat. This is not likely to occur, but if the issue is that critical, then it will be enforced.

Coming Up In The Next Rounds

Revision of the fights are taking place the next round to make things a lot more interesting. Firstly, each battle will be taken place in a random chosen battle field unknown to them until the start of the match. It could be a volcano or it could be on a single pillar escalating high into the sky like Kami's Lookout from DBZ. Whatever it is, be prepared to test your limits on very different terrain. And of course, there will be ring outs, but they will be different for each type of ring.

Also, another concept that will be introduced in the next rounds is something call the "Chance Juggler." Using the random number generator if Gaia, when a match reaches a page that is a multiple of 5, a random effect will be thrown into the match depending on a sheet that the moderators will have access to. It could affect the arena, or it could affect the players in some way.

So, in conclusion, be ready for some interesting twists if you make it to the next rounds. You don't want to miss this, so fight your hardest.

Cleaner Forums

And finally, many old threads have been locked and sent to the Old Thread subforum. In an effort to keep the viewing forums nice and clean, any thread that isn't a necessary thread which remains inactive for at least a month is locked. If the owner believes he or she can return its activity, it will be unlocked. Exceptions can be made, such as a topic becoming filled with too much flames and trolling, or a topic which is just too inappropriate.

Due to the over prolong of this tournament, I am now taking the orders to bring this tournament to an end by the end of June. In order to do that, I must take the necessary actions to add such order and accomplish this goal.

All current matches going on have until Next Wednesday to be completed. That means, after 11:59 PM central on Tuesday, I will be closing all threads. It is then where the chosen judges will grade each person based on a rubric that will be provided to them. This rubric will be shown to the public sometime between now and Monday. The fighter with the highest grade in the match will be declared the winner and be able to move on to the next round.

Also, in the next round, there will be no more branches. All remaining fighters would be bunched into the epic Championship branch, where then the homestretch for the final two will begin. From here on, anything can happen, as not only will different stages be given to battle on, but also random rules may be thrown into the match. For example, two fighters battling on the top of an airplane above nothing but water. Wouldn't that be an awesome match to see? So all fighters, if you want to experience the final eliminations in this tournament, show the people what you got! >=D
