Pales was bored of listening the old man ramble on about needing to be truthful about his real self. Forget him and forget exposing himself to people who wouldn't quite understand him or his purpose. As far as Pales was concerned he was a freak of nature, and the old man could go stuff himself. As Pales looked up into the branches of the blossoming tree he sat under he saw something sparkle. It was soon after that sparkle he forgot the old man was even blathering at him at all and stood up upon his bench where he sat so he could reach the shiny item that reached out for his attention.

When the gumball sized wethkin egg finally securely fell into his hand, it was love at first sight, the kind of love a father has upon seeing their newborn child for the first time.

About Falling Petals

Annually, the Japanese track the sakura zensen, or Cherry-Blossom Front. Nightly forecasts follow the weather segment of news programs. The blossoming begins in Okinawa in February, and typically reaches Kyoto and Tokyo at the end of March or the beginning of April. Then it proceeds north, arriving in Hokkaido a few weeks later. Japanese pay close attention to these forecasts. They will go to parks, shrines and temples with family and friends and hold a "flower viewing party" known as hanami. Hanami festivals celebrate the beauty of sakura, and for many, it is a chance to relax and enjoy the beautiful view. Most Japanese schools and public buildings have sakura trees outside of them. Since the fiscal and school year both begin in April, in many parts of Honshu, the first day of work or school will coincide with the cherry blossom season.

Japan gave 3,000 sakura as a gift to the United States in 1912 to celebrate the nations' then-growing friendship. These trees have since lined the shore of the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. (see West Potomac Park), and the gift was renewed with another 3,800 trees in 1956. The sakura trees continue to be a popular tourist attraction (and the subject of the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival) when they reach full bloom in early spring.

The sakura has always been a symbol of ephemeral beauty in Japan and closely associated with samurai or bushi. Life was considered brief and beautiful, much like a cherry blossom. This theme remains alive today, seen often in pop culture (specifically manga and anime).

Please keep your egg in a cool-warm place.
It should hatch in 5-10 days heart

Likes: Reading, relaxing, writing, observing others, talking with friends, mint tea, green tea, pretty art, cats, and meeting new people -- despite being shy at first around new people.
Dislikes: Being annoyed, being exposed, making life and death decisions, making split minute decisions, being dominated -- without permission.

Loves: Laughter, smiling, instrumental and classical music, sound of rain against windows, thunder storms, friendship, and sparklies. *_*
Hates: Loud obnoxious sounds, fingernails against chalkboard sound, the taste of overly spicy food.

Favorite Foods: Sushi, Tempura: Shrimp, Ramen, Chinese takeout, white chocolate pocky, fresh asparagus -- cooked just right.
Hated Foods: Chicken and dumplings, asparagus -- that came from a can, anything overly rich or spicy -- his poor stomach wouldn't know what to do with it.

Bad Habits: Tends to smoke cigarettes when overly stressed, if he's not smoking he tends to pace about the room like a caged tiger.

Personality: Shy, and seems to appear a little naive and innocent. Despite his sometimes tough outter look he is actually a very caring and kind person. When he warms up to someone he can be rather talkative and quite bubbly. Whenever he sees a friend he is always appears to be very happy to see them. He doesn't seem to be much for decision making at times. Rarely ever does he seem to get angry. Though no matter how naive and innocent he may appear he is a lot wiser than what he lets on.

Description: He is a tall lanky fellow with faintly feminine features, that are seen when the light catches his features just right. He has slender hands, that are rather fast depending upon the work he does. His hair is kept clean and neat. He has a silver stud peircing on both ears, on his left ear there is a plain silver ear cuff with a chain leading down to the peircing itself. His eyes are a rather haunting shade of jade green.

Favored Clothing: He doesn't really seem to mean to pick the clothes he picks out, he just generally seems know what he likes and he wears it. Generally the clothing tend to be dark in nature but not really gloomy. He just goes for comfort. Depending on the cut and type, for him tighter is better, mostly with shirts more than anything. He likes to wear his coat no matter what the outfit, he generally bases his clothes after his coat. He is not one that tends to mismatch his clothing. Sometimes he does go without his favored coat, but not often.

Forms:

(Human) Described above in description area. It is the only form he takes. He adamantly denies his true nature. (Art of Pales: Lemme: Click!)

(Crow) He is a rather specific sort of shapeshifter. It is one of the only other forms he can take. It is simply a rather large crow, with jade green eyes, which is only seen if observer really pays attention to the bird. It is a trait carried through from his human form thus making him easy to pick out if one pays attention.

(Hybrid) He takes a humanoid crow form, standing a good 6 inches taller than his usual human height. He is rather fearsome to behold in this form. He has no hands, his arms are simply wings with claws at the top of them. When he walks it seems sort of awkward. He only uses this form to fight, and if someone would see him fight it is truely poetic and somewhat frightening. He also still keeps the jade green eyes in this form, and a tuft of bright red feathering on his head. (example/reference image: Click!)

History: He had never known his father, raised entirely by his mother. His mother seemed to be dependant upon his dependency, often going out of her way to make sure he always needed her. He was allowed little to no contact to his grandmother, who was his mother's mother, of course. For some reason his mother hated his grandmother and always referred to her as a crazy old coot, which upset Pales immensely as he grew up.

Though somehow Pales grew up to be a strong and responsible pre-teen, taking care of himself which drove his mother to deep depressions as he soon no longer really needed her to watch after him. When he was about thirteen his mother committed suicide, leaving no note for an explanation as to why. Pales had found his mother's body after coming home from school. It is something that will always haunt him.

It was a few days before someone dropped by to see just what the boy was up to as he had been missing from school. What they found was the woman propped up over a cold cup of coffee and a thirteen year old cleaning up house. Pales adamantly denied that his mother was dead, but he soon had to accept it. He struggled some when being put to the social worker to be relocated to a new family.

A few days after his placement under the social worker, Suzanne Dyhr had come in to see about adopting a child from the very same social worker Pales was assigned to. Suzanne was accompanied by Kat, who was very insistent about not needing an older or younger sibling, especially a brother. Pales had been slumped in the chair of the worker's office when the pair had appeared. Suzanne was trying to hush the girl and the girl continually insisting and occasionally pouting when her protests were ignored. When Kat and Pales first made eye contact, the girl's first duty was to stick her tongue out at him. Which he took in stride and crossed his eyes at her in turn.

Suzanne was about to chide her daughter until she saw Pales return the face making in kind and simply shrugged it off. Kat on the other hand wasn't sure whether to be insulted or amused, but soon the pair talked. Suzanne nodded approvingly and said he would indeed be going home with them. The statement made Kat pause for a moment before consenting most reluctantly and graciously accepting that Pales would be pretty much adopted by her own family. As soon as the papers were signed, they went to retrieve Pales' affects and they made for home.

Pales had some trouble settling into a new family and a new routine. Up until this time, much like Kat he was an only child. So it took some getting used to having a parent's attention diverted away from him, and the same likely went for Kat as well. Pales took to his role as a protective older brother quite splendidly, which annoyed Kat to no end at times. Pales grew up with minimal rebelling against parental rule and made a decent bond with everyone involved in the family despite the lack of blood relation. They were all fairly accepting of Pales.

When he was about eighteen he had moved off to college where he kept contact with the family. He sent regular letters to them as well as presents for Kat for when he was unable to rejoin the family for events such as birthdays due to hectic college life.

Then one day the letters stopped. Which worried them quite a bit, though not as much as the strange phone call of a very panicked Pales calling himself a freak and ranting about how he shouldn't come near them anymore. A few weeks afterwards Kat found him by a river, looking pretty haggard. He refused to explain what had happened, and almost refused to come back home with her. Though she talked him into it and calmed him down some.

When asked to explain himself he'd withdraw and refuse to even speak. Soon the family just let him keep it all to himself, in fear that he would withdraw from them.

Currently Pales lives in his own home, not far from where his family lives, taking care of his own growing branch of the family as best as he can as well as keeping a neat home and delighting in spending time in his garden.

Entails - When Pales first recieved Toki on the 25th of April

---

"You can't keep hiding like this, Pales." The older man said while pacing in front of him.

"Yeah, I can. I don?t want people to know this about me." Pales replied in a non-committal tone. Pales had sprawled out under the bench that sat under a blossoming tree. It was the most beautiful tree in the park. He tilted his head back and watched the branches sway in the gentle wind.

"Just why would you want to hurt yourself like this, Pales?" The man continued on, he continued his caged tiger pace.

"Because no one ought to care what I do. That includes you, old man." Pales retorted slitting his eyes closed watching one branch in particular. Some petals fell upon his face and he just let them stay, he wasn?t aware shiny things could hang on trees. Pales continued to ignore the old man while standing on the bench for a better reach, he was going to get that shiny thing and collect it and make it his. Yes he was.

"Are you even listening to me?" The old man whirled around to glare at Pales, "What are you doing?"

"None of your business." Pales continued to reach for the small egg like object, he didn?t have to reach for long as the egg fell into his grasp, "My, my. It's an egg...I think."

"You are something else." The old man said giving up wandering over to inspect what Pales had caught in his hand, "Looks like an egg to me."

Pales sort of petted the gumball sized egg for a moment, "I think I?ll keep it and try to hatch it."

"That is mighty birdlike of you." The man peered at Pales.

Pales shot him a glare, "Shut up." He grumbled under his breath and turned away from him, still petting the egg. "I wonder what you are. Yes I do." He cooed at it all motherly like, "I think I will name you Toki."

"?Fine. I'll shut up. Just remember what we talked about." The man turned and started to walk away, "Take good care of that egg-thing of yours. Maybe it'll show you how much of a moron you?re being. Anyways, I'll be back to try and teach some lessons into that thick skull of yours, little bird."

Pales shot an over the shoulder glare this time, "Just get off of it, will you?" Then he returned back to his egg, "I will take good care of you and I won't let that bad man come near you." He nodded affirmatively as if to confirm the thought to himself. "I will buy you many presents and we'll have lots of fun together. No matter how small or big you are. Yes sir."

The old man had left with a chuckle; Pales would certainly make a good parent to just about anything.

After the man had gone, Pales jumped off of the bench he was standing on, and cupped the egg in his hands gingerly beginning his slow careful walk home, talking to the egg the whole way. Once there a note was taped to the door, it didn't say much of anything other than:

"Keep it in a cool-warm place. It should hatch in 5-10 days."

That was just a little strange. Perhaps it was the prank of the old man, or perhaps someone is watching him somewhere? In any case, he'd follow the note and hope the egg didn't die on him.

He tucked the note a way for now and looked around the house, what was cool and warm at the same time? Well it was lovely spring weather out. A perch on the window sill with the window open perhaps? He gave a cringe. No, that was not a good idea.

He placed the egg on a pile of kitchen towels while he went into his closet to retrieve a wicker basket just slightly bigger than the egg. He filled it with soft lining, which should keep it warm enough. He placed the egg in the basket and placed the basket on his desk with a heating lamp and a fan going at a gentle breeze.

He'd have to keep constant vigilance on the egg and the lamp otherwise he might cook the poor thing. He had taken care so that the heat lamp wasn't too low or directly over it. "That should do." He let out a sigh.
