I have two guppies that are pretty sick from ich/ick, and I caught their conditions at the early stages (appearing to get older). I used an Ick Guard on them and separated them from everyone else. They are in their own fish containers, alone, and they have their containers cleaned and their water changed (25%) every day basically. Today they both showed severe signs of the disease, and the medicine is no longer working too well. They have big white spots in random places, and the female's tail is now pointed and no longer useable.

Already I've purposefully got them (one at a time) in a small fish net, drop the liquidy medication on the infected areas, then let some drops of BettaFix Remedy fall on them (it works like a charm for me in these severe occasions). I'm hoping that the female does not die (she's got the worst of it), and she's the only female I have that I bred on my own since the tank heater killed all of my guppies along with my hard work of genes (hybrid guppies, though hehe). The male has major white spots, and parts of his tail seem to be getting affected by fin rot, but he's still swimming around much easier than the female. Lastly, I put some java moss into the female's container, so then she can rest on it, as it is quite soft and I know that a lot of my older fish love to use it -- so I figure she'll like it (and she's been using it quite a bit now).

Any ideas on what else I could do?

Did you read the instructions on your medication? The Ich meds I have say not to change their water for 4 days and give them a second dose after 2 days. Also, you should raise their tank tempurature to 82 degrees (only change it by 1-2 degrees an hour) and something else I've used is salt dips. If you have aquarium salt you add about 1 teaspoon into a container with 2-3 cups of water (start with 2 but that might have too much salt). You can leave them in the mixture for about 2 minuts and do it up to 3 times a day, just make sure to mix up a new solution every time. And for the water, I'd use water they are being kept in. This seemed to help my girlfriends fish when they got ich, they still died but every time I gave them a salt dip they seemed alot happier and didn't freak out as much. Since you caught their ich at an early stage doing these things should save your fish.

Also, i'd make sure the temp on the tank they were originaly in is at least 82 degrees (farenheit) to make sure that any form of ich in that tank dies before it has a chance of infecting more fish. Good luck! sweatdrop

i've been there! yes keep treatments up and a higher temperature and be SURE that you are doing partial water changes weekly and treating the new water. the ich will lie dormant in your substrate even after the fish seem healthy or if you even need new fish. keep rotating that water, i've even gone through getting new fish and they were fine and a water change down the road a few months stirred up a little bit of ich again! its a tough one to get rid of, good luck to you! lol

I think I have a fish with ich. I Quarentined it, but it doesn't seem it'll make it.

I hear that Ich is highly contagious. Is there a way "clean" my tank of the Ich? It doesn't seem my other fish have been infected by it yet, but I still worry.

My fishies have had ich twice before and they cured<3
Ich is like lice that sticks onto your fish but after a while they fall off and the period of Ich reproduction continues. The best way to treat and stop the reproduction is to raise the water temperature that the instructions tell you on the medicine and add the correct amount in. Btw, Ich is generally caused by stress.

Good to know for the next time my fish get ich...(it died) =_=
Anyway I'm dealing with a different problem now. I really don't know what my fish has anymore.

Can you describe the symptoms? Maybe I can help?
BTW, always remove your carbon before adding medicine or else it will be filtered<3

XD I did in the thread I made in this forum. But my fishy died already. It was all bloated when it was in the tank when it wasn't eating and when I separated it started to waste away...then it died....0-0 crying I shall miss my little Koi (my comet's name)

I dont even own fish yet but I have been doing a little reading because I want some guppies. Anyway, in the book I read about it said to kill of ich you can raise the temp to 90 degrees because most tropical fish can tolerate it for up to 10 days. I am not lying I got it off this book http://www.amazon.com/Freshwater-Aquariums-Animal-Planet-Library/dp/079383760X
