A pair of dainty feet tapped hesitantly across the ground, fear making the ridge of gold and white splotched fur stand up on her back. Temari had come to the Elephant Graveyard on a whim, going back to the giant skull where she'd first met Jamaa and decided that she loved him.

But she wasn't able to find that same skull any longer. Maybe it had been too long, it had been a year or so after all. Curling her tail underneath her so that it touched her belly, Temari looked around with pastel green eyes and tried to figure out where she was.

"H-hello?" She called as something moved in the distance. She jumped back as it got closer and bumped into a bone that sent an avelanche of soot down onto her. Instantly she was pitch black, none of her gold or cream or white showed through at all, just her bright green eyes when she opened them in confusion.

It was Yakuti who bumped the bones, he had tripped behind them and accidentally knocked into them... "Ow..." He mumbled, getting back up and walking around to the other side. What a mess, but wait... There was someone there!

He didn't recognize her, covered in soot, so he watched her suspiciously. She was no lion, but not a hyena either.

"Who are you? What is you're business in the graveyard?" He barked in a commanding voice, not angry, but still assertive. No doubt that Temari would recognize him, but for the moment he did not recognize her...

Yelping aloud at the sharpness of the voice that was behind her, Temari danced over to one side away from the larger blue and white hyena. Her mind raced, she didn't know who she was talking to at first glance because he was so much larger than he had been and so very much meaner.

But then it clicked.

"Ya-kuti?" Temari asked tenatively as she flicked one of her ears forward just enough so that the stoot fell off and revealed it's golden shimmer. She didn't have the energy to shake it off the rest of her body while she was scared, though her hackles were starting to lift a little and remove the black soot from the ends of her golden ruff just enough to make it look like she shimmered.

Wait, how did this wild dog know him? He had never met a soot-colored one before... But she wasn't soot colored, she was covered in soot, and part of her true color began to come through.

He thought for a moment, "Temari? Is that you?" His voice more friendly as he stepped closer to the wild dog. "What are you doing here?" He asked, cocking his head curiously.

"It is you." She said in her gentle voice as she took a few steps towards him. She still had the slight limp in her right leg from so long ago when she'd last seen the little blue and white hyena she had begun to call son. But as she stepped with her limp the soot started to fall off of her body slowly in torrents and she wagged her tail.

"Yakuti. So this is where you've been." the same gentle smile she always had spread over her muzzle as she looked at the large hyena. "My how you've grown. The last time I saw you, you were still very little, now you're even bigger than me." Temari chuckled gently and sat down in front of him.

He smiled, "Its great to see you Temari, I've missed you so much!" He said happily, sitting as well. "But..." He said, his ears drooping slightly, "I don't think Jamaa wants to see me ever again." He said sadly. "Goma and Topas came here and told me he's to busy to come see me and he doesn't want me to come see him." He sighed, "Temari, does Jamaa hate me?" He asked, looking into Temari's eyes with a deep sadness.

The dog he had started to know as his father, could he really just leave him like this? How could he? He asked himself, anger rising inside him slightly.

For a moment Temari sat and stared at Yakuti in confusion. This was the second time she'd been asked a question about Jamaa and Yakuti's relationship. Only this time the tables were turned. What were Goma and Topas up to?

"Well he and I just had pups, but that doesn't tie him down any. And I know that he still loves you dear, he asked me much the same question about you that you just asked about him. He misses you very badly in fact." Temari explained in her normal patient way. "Besides, Goma and Topas are going to have some explaining to do if I get my paws on them." She said glaring at the ground to her right for a moment in thought. She didn't know what they were trying to do, but she had a feeling that Goma had a lot to do with it and it made her angry.

"What? What did Jamaa say? I want to see him!" He said in a distressed fasion, those two were in some serious trouble if they were lying to himself and Jamaa. He shook his head, he had trusted them! Well, Topas anyway.

"Well, congratulations to you two, I'm happy for you." He said honestly, "So, Jamaa doesn't hate me?" He asked hopefully, abesntmindedly plotting ways to get at Goma, to hurt him and make him sorry for what he had done.

He stood up and wagged his tail, "Why don't we go to my den? Its a lot safer there, we don't want any less friendly hyenas finding us out in the open."

Temari nearly fell over on her side from the abruptness of Yakuti's exclamation and the weakness that had been plaugeing her body ever since her brush with death.

"He asked me if I thought you would still love him or not, since the pair of you haven't seen much of one another in the past few... I'm going to go ahead and assume months." Temari said gently as she stood to follow the much larger hyena wherever he wanted to lead her.

Her tri-colored tail wagged gently as she trotted at her limping pace along after him. "So you made yourself a den then? That sounds good to me. And thank you very much. We got three beautiful boys. Though it amuzes me that we still have no males at all."

"Of course I still love him, I just didn't think he loved me..." He said, glad to know that this whole thing was no more than a couple of creatures lying to him.

"Yeah, here it is." He said after they had walked only a short distance, showing her the elephant skull. "careful when going in, its a big hole." He said slipping into the pit below the hollow bone. It was a very large hole, he had worked on it and made sure it was steady, while making sure he could still get out. It was big enough that two adult lions could live there quite comfortably if they managed to get past the skull, whose hole was large enough for him to get in and out, even once he was full grown.

He chuckled, "feel free to let them come visit if you want, I don't mind." He said with a smile, "Topas made this tunnel." He said, indicating a hole in the wall of his den, "He says it goes straight to his den, so its probably safer for you and anyone else who wants to visit to use it."

"You'll always be his son Yakuti. Even if it isn't in blood you'll always be his son in heart." Temari explained to the blue hyena gently.

Lifting her head, the golden female walked into the familiar looking elephant skull and froze in her steps. Yakuti's words drowned out as her own thoughts started to scream in her head. A swirling torrent of confusion and understanding at the same time.

"This was where I met Jamaa again after being gone for so long." She whispered at last, turning to look at Yakuti blankly after he was done talking. Walking over to the right side of the skull, she ran her paw over the hair-thin scratch on the surface of the skull's smooth white bone. That was where she'd scratched with her claws in irritation at finding herself alone in this graveyard.

"Ironic how things turn out neh?" Temari said with a soft laugh.

How ironic was this? "Wow Temari, thats pretty neat!" He said happily, wagging his tail, it seemed like all three of them were connected in the most subtle ways, if he had never met Jamaa he probably would have ended up anyway, and Temari and Jamaa would have ended up together... It was so strange.

Yakuti didn't know the significance of the scratch, but in a way it was like Yakutis pawpring on Jamaa's den. To be there forever...

Temari turned and smiled at Yakuti gently. A lot of things had happened since she'd started living the life she was now, but she was happy that she'd met up with Yakuti and Jamaa. If it hadn't been for Jamaa she was sure she'd never have met Yakuti, and if it weren't for Yakuti she'd never have found her way back to here.

With a gentle sigh, the golden female took her paw from the scratchmark, chuckling a little that she'd left a white mark among all the dirt. "I suppose it is pretty neat." Temari said slowly after a long time. "I never thought I'd be back here again."

Glancing back at her pawprint in the dirt again she smiled and dropped her head sadly.

Indeed much had happened, though Yakuti had undergone the biggest change in his life in that time. He was now loyal to Mafa, one who he never expected to follow. In fact he had first been thinking of escaping, but now he couldn't leave... Not for good.

He heard a howl in the distance, the other hyenas were close, and it was too dangerous for the both of them if Temari was caught here. "I think its time for you to go Temari, but come visit any time you want." He said happily.

"you can use that tunnel if you want, its probably safest that way."

Temari glanced up at Yakuti once more before standing and limping faintly over to him. He really had grown, it made her sad to think that she'd rarely see him. Sitting up on her hind legs, the female licked Yakuti's forehead softly and looked down at the tunnel.

"The same applies for you. The next time you feel lonely or feel that for some reason one of us is ignoring you, you come and find me. Hear me?" Temari said in her soft voice as she bumped her head against his leg and trotted up to the entrance to the tunnel.

Staring down into it Temari glanced one more time at Yakuti before crawling down into the tunnel and starting the long tunnel crawl back to wherever this let her out. Already she hated this damn thing, maybe when she went to visit him agian she would just stay above ground and sniff the hyena out.
