"No! Leave me alone!"
Moira turned, running ahead of whatever bad was chasing her. She couldn't see anything, though she was sure her eyes were opened. She heard a snarl, and screamed.
Then she was stuck and sinking, and the blackness closed around her. Suffocating.
"NO!" She yelled, sitting up quickly. Eyes wide, terrified, she looked around her dark bedroom. Seeing and sensing no one, Moira turned and turned her sidelamp on quickly. No one was in the room with her. She grabbed her deck of cards off the lamp, and peered over the edge of her bed.
Nothing. No baddies. It was just a dre--
Something rattled her window. She yelped and bolted off her bed, staring at the window with wide eyes. .... A tree branch. Taking a deep breath, Moira began to shuffle, walking to her dresser.
You're paranoid, Moi. She thought to herself, pulling on a pair of pants and a tanktop. Her pajamas, in a manner of speaking. Dressed as such, she left her room, and made her way to the gardens.
Once outside, she relaxed a little more, and wandered to an open space on the grass. She sat down quietly, and played with her cards, looking down at the deck intensely.
It was just a dream, Moi.

The night, like the one before, was not being kind to Shane. Sleep wouldn't come to him, and writing did nothing to soothe his soul. He'd tried to bang out a few songs on his keyboard... but nothing. It was slightly infuriating, he always was able to fall into his music.
Homesickness tore at him and he kept gravitating toward his photo album of Ireland and his family. Ever since he'd talked with Eponine about it, he'd had a yen to return to the Emerald Isle. But he knew that that wasn't going to happen anytime soon.
Tugging on some sweats and a flimsy ribbed tank, he opted for the gardens rather than the mess hall. More than likely he wouldn't be getting any service there anyway. Bloody bastards and their inability to cook...
Walking through the fragrent scents of the flowers, he glanced up at the moon for a moment before going back to his wondering. Pausing, what was this, a familiar sound of shuffling, peering around a bush he found Moira sitting in a clearing, dancing her cards. Well isn't there a pretty sight? A lovely lady enjoying the moonlight... in certainly less than I last saw her. "What's a pretty lass like you doing out at a time like this?" He asked as he came around the corner.

She almost didn't hear the Irishman's voice, until the last few seconds as he came around the corner. She glanced up from her cards, and smiled a little. The smile was almost completely empty; the Italian was still shaken from her experience.
"Good evening, Shane." She greeted quietly, shuffling her cards from one hand to another like she always did. "What brings you out here?" She asked idly, avoiding his question since she had hoped it was a rhetorical one. Recounting her evening of failed sleep wasn't on the top of her To Do list.

Shane quirked his eyebrows at the sad looking smile she gave him. Something was amiss here. Settling down on the ground near her, he cocked his head to the side to look at her, a lazy smile playing across his lips.
"Couldn't sleep, just couldn't find peace in my room, so I decided for some night air. Seemed as good an idea as any other, and I figured them devils in the mess hall would turn me out again if I tried their kitchens again." Frowning he turned to look at her, "I'm talking too much again..."
You've a bad habit of that boy-o.

Despite the man's tendency to run at the mouth, Moira was glad for his company. It made her feel slightly more at ease to not be alone than being left to her solitude. She offered a smile when he'd realized he was running at the mouth again.
"It's okay." She replied calmly, offering a slight grin to him. "I haven't tried to raid the kitchens yet." Moi stretched a little, and started to shuffle again, looking down at the deck. She wanted to apologize for being so quiet, but in doing so, she knew she'd prompt Shane to ask what was wrong. She didn't want to deal with that, so she remained quiet.

Shane leaned back to gaze at the stars. It was a beautiful night, if not a little cold, but you know they were in the mountains. "Ah, don't trust them folks in the kitchens, they've got naught but fluff in their heads! If you want a real meal sometime, you come find me, I'll cook you up something nice."
There was a feeling that she didn't want to go into whatever it was that was bothering her, so he merely shifted his gaze over to her. "So are you liking the the base so far?" He offered as an alternative subject.

Moira laughed softly, and looked at him. "Careful, Shane. I might take you up on that offer one of these days." She smirked at him a little, and looked up at the sky, the deck of cards left abandoned in her hand. She glanced over when he'd mentioned the base, and she smirked a little.
Sweet of him to offer an alternative subject. "It's big." She replied simply, shrugging. "I haven't explored much of it, but... It's big." She laughed softly, and looked at him. She laid back on the grass after a few minutes, and stared up at the stars.
"Pretty view, huh?" She asked suddenly, staring up at the stars and trying to pinpoint constellations.

"Anytime love, anytime. I've a love for cooking, and if I used a pretty girl for an excuse, maybe those baboons would let me use their equipment." He chuckled and looked down at her as she laid back upon the grass.
That was right, she hadn't been there very long... "I've a had a right good time exploring this place, but you're right, tis big, much larger than anything I was used to. But it's a nice place. The library's an especially nice spot."
Looking back up at the stars he connected his own dots to make constellations. "Gorgeous." He uttered. Much like some other things around here...

Moira glanced over at him for a minute and grinned a little. "Maybe." She replied, amused. "Flattery'll get you nowhere, Shane." She teased a little, before returning her gaze to the stars.
Until she heard the word 'Library'. She blinked, and looked over. "...... Library?" Was it big? Was it full of books? Well. That was the purpose of a library. But still--
Down, girl.
She grinned a little, and stared at the stars. "I like reading." She admitted after a minute, starting to connect dots with a bit of difficulty. Was it her, or did the stars seem like they were moving? She shook her head a little, and closed her eyes, sighing.

"Flattery, dear lady, tis not flattery, tis truth." He chided back. Grinning at her he commented, "The library is huge, and really beautiful. With wonderful chairs, it's the perfect place for reading. So I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I rather like it."
The breeze came and ruffled through the leaves of the plants and he tilted his head back to enjoy it a little. But he could sense her little pieces of un-ease and it bothered him... so, carefully, he eased in... "So... are you alright Moira?"
Smooth... real smooth you jack a**...

Moira grinned a little, and shook her head again, watching the sky. She glanced over and smiled. "You'll have to show me sometime." She replied idly, watching him for a minute and looking away.
And then the inevitable happened. Moi had expected it, of course, but that didn't stop her from flinching when the question left his mouth. She shrugged after a thoughtful minute. "I'm fine." She lied smoothly. Honestly, it was a nightmare. It was nothing life threatening, so in all technical reasoning, she was fine. At least physically and health-wise.

He saw the mood drop around her as he asked and he felt sorry for it. But he was a bit of nosey sort, and so he couldn't help himself from commenting, "You know, tell me off if you like, but you look sad, lass. I was just wondering if there was anything I could do to help ya. I know, I'm a nosey lout, but tis in my blood."
You're a bit of an idiot you know that Shane? She obviously doesn't want to talk about, so what do you do? Bother her some more, cause that's the way to get her to talk. You turnip...

Moira was silent for what felt like two full minutes, before she looked over. "You're sweet for asking, Shane." She started, with a faint smile. "Nowadays, people tend to look out for themselves, y'know?" She shrugged a little, and looked up at the sky.
"It's stupid, really." She added after a few seconds of thought. "I'm acting like the whole world crashed down around me, all over some stupid nightmare that shook me up." Moira looked over at him. "That's all it was. A dream. A nightmare, rather." She smiled a little. "No reason to be concerned, really." Moira offered, to ease his conscience. While it made her flinch internally to talk about it, even mention it, she felt a little better that he'd asked even after noting she didn't feel comfortable. It was nice.

"I'm Irish love, we care. Well the most of us do." He smiled sweetly and reached his hand out to pat her on the shoulder. "If it was bad enough to have you out here escaping, it was pretty bad." Scooting a bit closer, "Nightmares aren't really fair, no way to fight back and all, rather un-sportsmanlike, they just sneak up on you don't they?"
The natural instinct in him was to draw her into a hug, but they barely knew each other and hed didn't know if this would be invading her space. "You want to say anymore? Or you want the annoying Irishman to go away?"

Moira felt him inch closer, but didn't move. She nearly flinched away when she felt his hand on her shoulder, and forced herself to relax a little. Shane was a friend. There was no reason to be scared of him, for the love of ******** looked over at Shane for a minute, then offered a slight smile, shrugging. "Sometimes it's easier to talk about it, right?" Moira sat up from the grass, folding her knees to her chest quietly. She was silent for a little while, before speaking again. Her eyes were distant.
"I don't even remember it, really. I just remember running. I don't know what from, but it's scary, and bad, and if it caught me I know I wouldn't wake up." She muttered softly, staring down at the grass emptily. "And then I'm stuck to the ground, and I'm sinking. Whatever it was catches me and descends on me and then..."
She looked up suddenly, staring at him. "I'm awake. And I'm so scared that I almost didn't get off my bed because I thought whatever it was was just waiting under my bed to drag me and pull me under." Moira looked ahead again, silent now. "I haven't had a nightmare since I was a kid." She muttered softly.
