Hah. Why watch the two people voted 'Most Likely To Ruin Our Country' in high school yell at eachother when you can watch something better, like your ceiling fan? Besides, I turn 18 about 2 days before the election, so I really don't think I can vote.

They may be most likely to ruin the country, but one of them -will- end up running it next year, so I'd rather have the person I think will ruin it slightly less than the other.

Trajedy *nods* you can, you just have to fill out forms and stuff ahead of time. Hmm. I suppose that means, to borrow from Hamlet...to vote, or not to vote? I'll run that one around in my head a few times. Trajedy They may be most likely to ruin the country, but one of them -will- end up running it next year, so I'd rather have the person I think will ruin it slightly less than the other. I didn't know there *was* one who was going to ruin it slightly less xp To be frank, I think we'd all be a lot better off if we did away with this whole 'one guy is the President' s**t and made it 3-5 individuals put there by a meritocracy-style system. If the day comes when we get to vote for something like that, I'm gonna be all over it.

I didn't want it. >D The electoral college is crap. It's sad that you can win the popular vote, and -still- not be President. That goes against the whole idea of democracy, and voting for who you want. What's it all matter if the person who wins doesn't really win after all?

In the electoral college's defense, those people likely know far more than your average citizen about politics. Without an electoral college, I would expect that the presidential election would be little more than a popularity contest...the guy with more charisma always wins, even if he isn't the best man for the job. I went out and watched the debate for a little while...it did little to change my opinion of either guy, but I'd say Kerry won, since a) he found a good way to counter what Bush was saying about him doing the flip-flop IMO, and b) Bush is so completely awkward when faced with public speeches. I'd stack the odds in the Senator's favor right now.

They vote for whichever candidate won the popular vote in their constituency. Technically, they don't -have- to, but they're supposed to be representing their constituants. There's very few times in history when a member of the electoral college doesn't vote for the majority in their area. Generally, this works, because it's rare for a race to be so close that this system wouldn't work, but as we saw in 2000, it -can- happen.

To me, Bush seemed like that kid that doesn't really know what's going on, but likes to interject when he happens to know a fun fact to add, and then feels so proud.
He even gives that smug little grin!
