For the flute section in my band...it's 'anywhere you want to sit' until concert so I end up playing first betweeen two seconds sometimes... sweatdrop

ours does i think (i dont know about class tho, most likely they do)
the chairs are arranged funny tho....example: trumpets, first chair is in the middle, then 2nd on the left, 3rd on the right and so on i think.....its so confusing.....my friend tried to explain it to me but i didnt understand >.<

Anyways during my 8th grade year- during marching season- we could sit where ever we wanted- like I would sit next to my flute and trombone friend and I play trumpet. yeah it was crazy. During marching season we can sit where ever we want in our sections- such as I can sit any where in the 2nd trumpet part. During concert season with very strict seating though.

We kind of assign our own seating.. The better people sort of migrate towards the middle, and that's where the first parts usually get passed out. biggrin The band director just figures out who's good and who's not, and gives out the parts accordingly.

We choose were we sit at first...then each section votes on whether or not to have chair try outs, for the sections that don't our band director just hands out certain parts to certain people. Every now and then she will ask people to change seats.

We don't have chairs. At all. Our BD just kind of sticks us in spots by section and that's it. It's really kinda funny when we get subs that are actual directors... they don't know what to do with us. XD

No order but last year there was and I was first chair but the crippled kid had to sit there..... that was unfair and yes I sound rude but I worked hard for that chair!

During concert band, my band has to sit in ordder, but for marching band, it doesn't matter as long as we are in our section and generally with our same part.

we dont stay in the same spot during normal band usually in our sections but sometimes we dont...
the trombone section, my section, instead of sitting on the outside the first chair sits on the inside, then me and so we're opposite the way we're supposed to go... xd

We have principal players.... but we pretty much arranged ourselves. We sit in the same seats almost every day, but that's just because we chose our seats ourselves.

Why would a BD not give you assigned seats? How does the sound of a band even come out right like that?
You know, my first director at my old school didn't give us seats at all...I don't get how I survived.

Usually we sit the "right" way.
Occasionally, though, we play Shotgun Band, where everybody sits wherever they want, and no two people with the same instrument are sitting together. A VERY good way to see who knows their parts... ninja
As a note to Nita: We haven't done Shotgun Band this year, which saddens me. But last year, oh yes.

Yeah... and I wish I could be like, second or first chair. Because I know I can play better than them. (they can't play the two easiest parts of the song... that's reserved for first stand only xp )
Third chair's okay though. I'm still up front; and since the second chair is the feature twirler, her opinion on running our section doesn't count half the time, so I'm second-in-command, no da! ^^v

im 3rd chari, we have strick seating, our bd filips out if you move the chair lol, yiu also have to have tryouts even if ur the only one in ur section

We stick to our seating for like the first half of concert season and then some Flutes, I know, will move and sit wherever. The first two rows are usually the same unless a couple of people join the second row, which has been done occasionally. During concerts everyone goes back to their actual seating that they got when marching season was over.
I don't get how the band director doesn't give you seats either. I mean, it sounds really unorganized. "Oh, you're a trumpet? Here's clarinet music!"
