Some people say that it's impossible for a creature to be born malicious and spiteful, that these things are learned over time as a response to outside simuli. However, in Belial's case, these people would be wrong. The red cub, still childish, not long in this world nevertheless showed inclinations already towards bizzare eccentricies. His corruption had begun even before his birth, voices only he could hear telling him things about the outside world, flashes of feeling and emotion, mingled all the while with his mother's heartbeat.
Of course those memories were distant now he found himself in the real world, but the maliciousness and snobbishness remained.
Today Belial sat outside the dens of the pride, looking around himself at the rolling grasses, rocky ground and the lions that came and went all the while. He was in silent awe of it all, so huge, so much bigger than he was. He knew he wasn't technically permitted to stray far for now, a rule handed over to him by the only lions he'd ever obey, his parents so was content to stay where he was.
Still, cubs are easily bored and he soon found himself distracted by a plant growing in a crack in the rocks, proceeding to tear the thing to ribbons with his needle-sharp baby claws.

While his brother seemed to grow so malic with the voices, as well as the other siblings born from the god of conflic and his dark mate, not all were quite as bad. In fact, it seemed that with any dark family, there was a ray of light that seeped through, blinding others with just how strange and different it became. That light, that pure substance that flourished with the evil around it, was in the form of a young cub, a brother of Belial's and one that would learn just how different he was.
Mastema had no voices in his head, had no visions nor anything else for the matter. In fact, he felt nothing at all with the god that was his father, save for adoration any son would possess. However, even than he was a bit on the slow side, assuming no harm would come with him being so loving to the others around him.
Having sprung out with the first batch of light, the youth ran straight to the grasses before him, jumping down each rock with a playful pounce. Tail weaving and soft tan pelt streaming out with warmth, he laughed happily and just enjoyed his time. At the moments his other members of his family came out, he just chased through the grasses after a butterfly, enjoying his live with no worried at all.
After losing sight of the beautiful butterfly, the young prince turned his eyes upward, and caught the form of his elder brother before a grin spread on his maw.
"Belial!" He called out with a cheery voice, "Belial! Down here!" Sometimes he just had no clue.

Belial spotted his brother before he heard him, the movement catching his eye and distracting him away from his dessecration of the local plantlife. He turned to face his sandy pelted brother, brow raised, lip curled in his usual barely-concealed disdain, picked up so early in his life. He was too young to fully comprehend how conflicting the veiws of his brother were but nevertheless always felt there was something indecent about Mastema's behaviour. Surely it wasn't proper and decent behaviour to be so friendly all the time? The voices said so at least, he'd found. After all, they had a bloodline to uphold.
Whatever a bloodline was. He'd have to ask.
Belial's expression seemed to slide from indifference to manic concentration in a heartbeat as he pounced off of the rock, landing on the ground alongside Mas. His movements were usually oddly erratic, as though he was a little red wind up toy, his respect for personal space was rather tenative too, always leaning in too too close or poking other lions in the nose and face with a paw while he spoke to them.
"Mastema." he stated, squinting at the other lion. "What have you been doing today. Besides chasing butterflies, yes?"

All cubs are born innocent? Hah! That was a load of bull, in fact some were born evil, yes, evil as a demon from the depths of hell. Perhaps that is what such individuals were, mortal incarnations of the rules of the abyss. In the case of one white cub, this was not hard to believe, gleaming red eyes, forepaws the color of blood, hind paws and tail as black as the heart they belonged to.
The sole daughter of the god of conflict, Mahakali crept silently through the grass near the rocky den, blood red eyes focused on the golden pelt of her youngest brother. Her maw bore a wicked smirk, one that almost seemed permanent, one that born her fangs in a vampiric grin.
Small dark talons extended, Kali stalked her brother, her inexperience rustling the grass in her wake, hopefully offset by the inexperience, or at least naivity of her brother. Closer and closer she crept until her small body coiled like a spring, young limbs propelling her forward as she pounced at the gold cub, her intention to pin the little oddball under her claws.

Watching the elder sibling pounce, the tan one let out a slight sound of wooing, eyes widening at the skill before a soft giggle escaped his maw. Settling on his haunches, he just grinned brightly to his brother before the red one suddenly seemed to get nose-to-nose.
"Belial!" He chirped out in response to his name, closing his eyes in a cheery mask before giggling once more at his little game. However, he opened them a moment later as his ears fell, tilting his head with the questioning of his brother. Realizing there was no repremending, or at least to his knowlage, he stood up and moved around with a broad grin and a face to the sun, letting it's warm filter his pelt.
"Let's see..." He said thoughtfully, waving around the red one, "Well, I got up after a pleasent rest snuggling close to mama and papa, and than came out to greet the sunlight as it rose across the hills before us. As the sun grew higher, I moved down the rocks to play in the grass, weaving in and out and around hunting the bugs and the snakes that are here. They sure do like playing tag!"
It was obvious Mastema thought his brother was paying close attention, for every word he said he acted them out in a dance of sorts, chasing his imaginary bugs and snakes all around the path of his brother. Pausing before him, he settled on his haunches once more and waves his tail in a gleeful manor.
"And than I saw the butterfly, one of the most beautiful colors, kinda like the lions that we sometimes see in these lands. I jumped and I ran and I did even some spins of rocks, but I could never catch the pretty butterfly...and as it flew away I saw you. I called out your name, you saw me and jumped down...than I started telling you this story. Yeap, that is what I did today!" Grinning stupidly, he let his story trail off, taking one of the few breaths he had while speaking, until suddenly he caught the sounds of movement. Turning just in time to see the white flash of his sister, he was pinned with a gleeful grin, seemingly not feeling the claws.
"Sissy!" He cried out with a laugh, before lifting his nose to rub against hers, "It is so good to see you this morning, and such a warm greeting of love too!" Clearly, he had misunderstood the attack, and sadly he just thought she was hugging him, clueless to everything else.

Belial watched incredulously as Mastema recounted his entire day's events for him. He didn't often say much himself so the barrage of information simply made him gawp. Yes. There definately /was/ something wrong with Mas, he knew now. After all, anyone not like him obviously had a problem in their head. And what was all this nonsense about playing tag with the bugs? Belial would catch them and tear their wings off for their impudence at trying to escape him, he'd never humour them, moreso if they dared look beautiful and try to outshine him.
He raised a brow, about to say something vicious about how stupid he thought playing with bugs was when Kali arrived, pinning Mastema to the ground. Belial gave her a snooty look too, stepping away from them both to sit down, such violence. His mind still boggled at how Mas could chalk such an attack up to a greeting of love instead of the empty hate it probably embodied. From what he'd seen, Kali didn't give a damn about anyone other than herself, something he respected being that way inclined himself.
"Acting like commoners." he snorted, climbing back up to his rock, looking down at the two. Raising a paw to his head, he sighed dramatically. "Only Belial can hold up the bloodline, sad."

Kali's expression quickly changed, from the smug maliciousness of her pouce, to shock at Mastema's reaction, horror, and finally disgust. She had just 'viciously' pounced him and he...he...KISSED her for it! That just was not right, this...thing could not be any relation to her.
"Ewwwwwwwwwww!! Don't touch me you weirdo! You'll give me germs!"
She jumped backward, small paws landing on the earth a pawstep away, her tail flicking irritablly as she hissed at him. How could such a creature share the same parents, clearly he must have hit his head one too many times.
Snapping her around at Belial's words, her eyes narrowed. The red cub was at least less annoying or at least normal. But it was she that was the oldest and thus she was the strongest.
"Really now, and just what makes you think it'll be you that passes on the bloodline, brother dear?"
As she spoke, she stalked toward her brother, tail flicking mockingly behind her, red eyes gleaming with blood lust. By the time the last words left her paw, she stood directly before the red cub, her final word punctuated with a jab of a talon to his nose.

Rolling to his belly, Mastema just blinked at his sister's words for a moment, before a pearl of laughter left his maw once again, and settled with a warm smile.
"Don't be silly, Sissy, we are family, and family doesn't have germs!" With that, he jumped up to his paws and padded after her, ignoring her words blissfully before stopping when she did and looking at Belial. Tail twirling in the air like a mysterous dance, he was surprised to see the nail, before a frown marred his features.
"That isn't how you kiss someone, Sissy! You have to do this," and with that, he batted at her paw to move it before drifting to Belial's side and settling with them almost touching, "Watch Sissy, and you'll see there are no germs!" And with that, he let out a chirp of a mewl, and moved to rub his cheek against Belials own.
"See, no pain, and just like how mama and papa do it when no one is watching!" Pulling back, he just gleamed brightly to Belial, before adding, "Now you two try it, it isn't hard, I promis!"
Waiting expectantly, he kept the cheery smile on his maw the whole time.

The red cub laughed as Kali for got licked by Mastema, silently approving of how much the action distressed her. So long as the brown cub wasn't misunderstanding him, he was a riot to watch.
However, Belial's grin was quickly replaced by a glower at Kali for her retort, the red cub had no fondness for any of his siblings, the twins had each other to an extent, Mastema cared for everyone and Kali was like him. However, that did not stop her attitude grating on his nerves like nails on a chalkboard, after all, it was often the most similar creatures who clashed the hardest. He couldn't stand how simply because of a few moments difference in birth she considered herself the leader of the litter, on a pedestal above all else.
He had to restrain himself from simply lunging at her the way she had pounced Mastema, instead he simply opted to snap at the air when her talon had just been with a bitter snarl. "Do that again and I'll bite your perfect little toe off "princess"." He looked unmoved however, maintaining his glare, eyes so brown they were almost black in the right light. "I didn't say I'd pass it on, no." he snapped "But at least I don't disgrace it with flexing muscles Belial doesn't have.."
He didn't actually notice Mastema until he was standing right beside him, so great was his anger at his sister. As Mastema nuzzled against him, he blinked once and looked over at him with a concerned frown, holding it that way for a long moment before, without any warning whatsoever switching to his "outdoor voice" and a peevish expression.
"Can you NOT do that?!"

Kali's reaction was cold, unflinching, completely unphased by Belial's snap or his words. Instead her smirk broadened, a mocking laugh that she had clearly inherited from their father falling from her jaws, dripping like acid. Oh what a wonderful reaction, the power to elicite such a response was intoxicating and she made a note of just how to manipulate him to her likely in the future.
"Just try it brother, and I'll make sure father rips your teeth right out of your skull. Or are you too chicken to try it?"
Her voice was harsh, mocking, the voice of one in complete control, one who felt no fear, her words emphasised with taunting flicks of her tail. It was true she took great pride in being first born and enjoyed holding that fact over her sibblings, but a leader? No, she didn't care for them enough for that, they were simply pawns in her game. But there was something more, something beyond her birth that gave her that right, something that she wasn't quite sure of but that she knew was true. She was destined for great things far beyond what any of her sibblings could aspire to, she had seen it in her dreams.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, she was distracted from one brother by the other, this time her reaction one of total shock, her jaw gaping at the sheer stupidity, one brow raised in a silent question over her brother's sanity.

Recoiling for a moment, Mastema took on a look of pure horror at his brother's words, and yet instead of cowering, he did something else. Ears flatening hard against his skull, his bright emerald eyes welled up with shimmering tears, before he suddenly sniffled lightly. A pout forming on his maw, his eyes grew wide in the classic innocent kitten as he lowered his head just slightly.
"I-I-I'm sorry Belial..." He murmered softly, eyes darting to the ground as he felt horrible for making his brother unconforatable, "I'll try harder next time to do something you like...I promise..." Turning away, he failed to see the look his sister made, and let out a soft sigh.
"I only was trying to help...trying to make us a stronger family...just as mama helps make papa stronger..." And with that, he dragged his paws and wandered slightly away from the others to settle with his back to them, putting himself in a self-time-out.

((Writersblock club! XD))
Belial bared his small fangs at Kali, fury building in him like magma. But he kept a lid on that anger, bottling it up, after all she was right, wasn't she? She was clearly father's favourite and any transgression against her would just lower him in his parent's estimation. So he stored his anger for a time when he could unveil it openly. His tail lashed behind him and he wished just for a moment that he really could get away with just leaping for her and hitting her until all the arrogance ebbed away like blood.
But that would make him a hypocrite since he carried no small measure of arrogance with him himself. He would not give her the pleasure of seeing him lash out.
Turning his attention away from her and fully to the simpering form of Belial his eyes went wide at the other's open display of weakness and he even took two suprised paces backwards in case it was somehow contagious. He did feel a pang of guilt at his brother's aim to please however and frowned, trying to find words to put to his thoughts, as usual coming up with a jumbled mess of a sentance.
"Mother and Father are strong, yes? Mastema is NOT. Strong first then sappiness. But not too strong in the head, or you end up like Kali."

(( writer's block = evil )) The little lioness smirked, her red eyes burning like boiling blood with sadistic pleasure as she watched the flood of fury and anger surging just under the surface in her brother. He sought to deny her the pleasure of seeing him break, but he couldn't hide it from the white monster. She knew that he wanted to strike her, she could see it in his eyes how he fought to keep those emotions in check and it filled her with a twisted glee. In that at least, she was very much like her father.
But a cub's attention span is brief, and having elicited such a wonderful reaction from her brother, Kali quickly lost interest in him suddenly distracted by movement in the grass nearby. Her eyes narrowed, talons unsheathed as she crept the few paces toward the source of rusting grass; a lizzard, how perfect.
A wicked grin spread across Kali's maw, small fangs bared, a sadistic glint in her eye. Surging forward, she pounced the small lizard, seizing it in her jaws a moment before it realized she was there. Grasping her wriggling prey, she pranced toward her youngest brother and settled on her haunches before the golden cub. As she took the small creature in her paw, her sadistic grin was revealed, a single dark talon piercing the struggling lizzard just enough to draw blood but not enough to kill it...yet. She would make the creature suffer, tormenting it maliciously until it drew it's last breath, all of her sadistic glory played before the sappy little cub's eyes.
"You know nothing of strength, Mastema."

The cub was unable to see the exchange of his two elder siblings, for his back was still turned and he had slumped to his belly with a defeated sigh. If his sister and brother disliked his antics, he would punish himself so next time he would not do the same. They had to be happy with him, not the other way around, that was his purpose as a younger brother. To make his family happy.
Looking at the grasses before him, he just watched as a bug climbed up the long green blade, and his ears and body showed no sign of catching the words of his brother until the last possible moment, "Strong in the head?" He asked softly, resisting the urge to turn and blink in a dazed confusion at the red one.
Instead, he had his distraction as his sister came, and he starred at her blood red eyes as she spoke, before looking at the lizzard she scratched with her talon. Being one to always like a swift kill on prey, he was known by his other siblings for the lack of interest in their little hunting games. While the others would please their mother with torture, he liked to be the last one to just end the creatures suffering.
Almost wishing to snatch the lizzard from Kali's claws, he just turned his head down before frowning slightly.
"I know strength Kali, I know it better than all of you, papa says so!" And with that, he just turned his eyes away and continued with his self punishment. Of course Tanaka hadn't really agreed with it, but the male was very much a figurehead in Mastema's life, and always Mastema saw the true colors of Tanaka, if you could believe it. He just loved his daddy that much more when they were alone and the man was no afraid to show slight attention and teach him things as well.
