...Previously....

Suboshi-sama
A bright red, gold, and black gryphon landed in front of Elf's house with a flurry of wings and a small cloud of dirt. He walked up to the front door, and carefully deposited a small bundle next to the door. With a small shake to resettle his feathers, he took off agian, causing another small dust-cloud in his wake.

It was Arrakis who heard the arrival of the small gryphon. Not knowing who it was, the dragon girl went to the door and opened it. Only to see a multi-changing cat plushie grinning at her. The girl twitched a bit at the sight. She didn't think it was much to her tastes.

Bending down, Arrakis lifted the plushie -which was suprisingly soft- and then noticed the card. After reading it, the dragon sighed in relief, it wasn't for her. Even though it was made out to Elf, she was sure the gift was for the new arrival, the little girl with glowing wings, Mackerel.

She also saw who it was from and smiled, it was from her friend Hateya's guardian.

Turning, the Mysterian yelled through the house, "Mackerel! It's for you!"

Mackerel was rudely disturbed from her contemplation of the cherry leaves when she heard the dragon's voice. She looked back at the house and then at the tree, unsure what she wanted to do. Her roommate -for she and Arrakis shared a room in Elf's small house- won out, and the young Herald got up, dusted off her dress, and then slowly made her way inside.

Arrakis was sitting on the counter, waiting ever so patiently for Mackerel to make her wa inside. With a bright grin, she brought the plushie out from behind her back, "It's from Subo."

Even though the dragon girl held the gift as low as she could, Mackerel still had to reach up to grab it. Petting the soft 'fur', her face broke out in a grin.

Leaning on the countertop, Arrakis smiled at Mackerel, "You should go say thank you! It is the polite thing to do."

"Thank you?" Mackerel wondered.

With a nod, the dragon jumped to the ground. She was a little taller than the herald, but not by too much. "Yup! When someone gives you something, you say 'thank you'!"

"Oh," the girl smiled up at Arrakis, "thank you!"

With a laugh, Arrakis shook her head, "The gift isn't from me, it's from Subo. I can take you there if you'd like."

"Okay..." Mackerel said unsurely, but clinging to the changing cat, she followed the dragon girl out the door anyways.

Lind was running out of options. Mel was too tired all the time to play with, and Subo was too, and Mana was still sick, and Hateya kept on threatening him if he tried to get her to play with him, andandand.

Well, this is a time to prove his worth! He will entertain himself! Oh yes. And it shall be the best (est) entertainment the world has ever seen!

Twenty minutes later in the front yard, Lind is found being bored. Again.

" 'Teeeyyyaa!" he whined to the harpy who was lounging on the porch.

"Whaaaaat?" She responded in an equally whine-y voice, quite comfortable with the backrest of the worn-out Mel.

"Uhm...uhm.." A quick look around to see if there was something interesting. "PEEEEOPLE!" he shouted, pointing down the road that led to the house.

Hateya looked in the direction Lind was pointing, squinting her eyes to see more clearly. Hey, one of them looked really familiar....

Arrakis was walking just too quickly for Mackerel. The girl couldn't keep up, and even though the dragon was still just a child she was much larger... and had use of her wings to help speed up the process too! But, Kerel was generally quite, though curiousity got the better of her. "Whewe we going Awwa?" Her 'r's couldn't quite come out right.

Arrakis was excited to see her friend Hateya again, who's guardian was Subo, the giver of Mackerel's gift. What a great chance! She could use teaching Mackerel about manners and politeness as a guise for really seeing the harpy. "We are going..." she paused, almost giving away her own reason. "We are going to thank Subo for your gift... you do like it don't you?"

Mackerel had the chesire with her, and hugged the color-changing plushie tight, making her fall even more behind. It was her first real present. Elf gave her stuff... but that was different. "Yes!"

Arrakis nodded, as if she was all-knowing. The dragon blood in her demanded it. "Good, then it is only polite to thank her properly: in person!"

The Herald ran to catch up, trying desperately not to trip on her feet, "How else, not person?"

The dragon sighed, as if speaking the other options were too inferior to mention. She gave in, though... the child had a right to know. "Well, you could call them, send an e-mail, send a letter... horrible things like that!"

"Oh," Mackerel said, thinking about what she just heard. "Why bad?"

Arrakis snarled at the thought, "It's the coward's way out, and it's impolite!"

The girl paused a step, but decided not to push the matter further. It was then that she noticed a house where quite a few people were gathered... and looking in there direction. One was even pointing at them! "Uhh..." she started, but couldn't finish for Arrakis ran forward.

Arrakis knew it was Subo's house... and there was someone she knew very well there as well. The colors and faces were still a little far off, but the dragon heard the Song loud and clear, "HATEYA!"

An uncharactaristically large grin broke out on Hateya's face as she heard Arrakis yell. Scrambling to her feet, she ran off of the porch and down the road to hug the dragon girl.

Lind ran after Hateya, his seemingly endless energy still not making up for the fact that the harpy's legs were much longer. He stopped a few feet from the guests and peered curiously at them. The one with the white hair seemed very familiar....
...but he couldn't put his finger on it. Oh well. "Hiiii!"

Arrakis threw her arms around Hateya's neck in an embrace. "I swear, our meetings are too long between times! And... you get bigger every time I see you... however do you manage to fit through doors?"

Mackerel watched Lind with wide, childish eyes. She smiled sheepishly as if she was all of a sudden shy. Why did Arrakis have to leave? Now she had no one to hide behind! "Umm..." she said in a quiet voice, "hi..." This was the first time since the party that she met anyone else. Then, she was a little bit in awe and also she had just arrived to really know how to feel embarrased.

From her advantaged height, Arrakis looked over her shoulder at the Heralds and then back to Hateya with a smile. "That's Mackerel," she nodded down at the child and giggled, as if there was a joke involved.

"Ne, I keep on telling you that you keep on shrinking." Hateya responded, poking her on the nose.

"I'm Lind." he responded with a big smile. Mackerel, Mackerel...hrm..familiiiaar...almost got itt...there! "From festival?" he asked the other Herald, head tiliting to the side.

"NNgah! How come you get the quiet one, huh?" Hateya asked withh a small wave at Mackerel. "Think we can trade?"

Arrakis gasped as if the thought was absurd, "Dragons don't shrink... unless they are shapeshifting... but I am definately not shapeshifting....!"

"Hi Lind..." Mackerel smiled faintly as she recognized him. "Oh! Yeah! You were..." she didn't know what a viking was but she put her hands to her head to show that they were horns (it was difficult with the large chesire plushie). Seeing the harpy wave, she waggled one of her fingers back at Hateya.

The dragon girl rolled her eyes, "She isn't always this quiet...." Arrakis laughed and shook her head, "Sadly, I do not know if I could deal with one much more noisy than Kerel... she already disrupts me so much in my readings."

Kerel wasn't paying attention to Arrakis at all, she was too obsorbed with Lind at the moment. A one-tracked mind right now.

"Aah. Well then, since you obviously know better than I, I guess I'm turning into a giant." Hateya responded, making a face at the thought.

"Yeahyeahyeah!" Lind said with vigorous nodding. "A viking! They have boats and axes andandand are big and strong andandand...yeah!" His arms, which had been flailing around to illustrate a viking, flopped to his side as he stared at Mackerel, waiting to see if she recognized vikings.

Arrakis wiggled her nose at Hateya, "That's right! You must be turning into a giant! Though..." she winked, "... a very pretty giant!" The dragon wiggled a little bit, her jewels making tinkling noises. "Fee-fi-fo-fum!"

Nope, she didn't know what a viking was, or many of the other things that Lind said. Her eyes held a very blank stare. At this point, she only corresponded the helmet with 'viking'. Turning her head to Arrakis, Mackerel seemed to pout and pointed at Ling, "Awwa"? she asked questionably, seeing if she knew.

Arrakis saw the herald and shook her head. She had told Mackerel about some weapons before and made a chopping motion for the ax.

Mackerel looked back at Ling, in surprise. "Are you big and strong?" She saw he was bigger than her... but strong?

"Mymy, Arrakis, are you trying to flirt with me?" Hateya asked, batting her eyelashes, fake innocent dripping off of her words. "But, you know, being a giant...means I have to eat you. Sad, really."

Lind paused at Kerel's comment. Was he? How does one know they are strong? Umumum...
.."Iunno." he mumbled, after a moments thought.

Arrakis grinned, "Nu-uh! That is a false rumor started by parents to keep their children in line."

Mackerel looked at Lind, almost expecting him to do something. She was a curious thing, with endless patience in this respect.

"Well, all rumors have a gain of truth in them..." Hateya said thoughtfully.

Lind blnked, tilted his head, and stred back at Kerel. Only for a bit though. Her gaze was slightly unnerving. His gze dropped, and he figeted slighly, for once at a loss of what to do.

Arrakis snorted, "Exactly, a grain of truth!"

Mackerel stared even more, looking at Lind with even more curiousity. What was he doing? Why'd he change. The girl took a step forward, getting really close to the other Herald and intensively studying his face.

The dragon girl looked down and scowled at Mackerel, "Kerel, leave the poor boy alone!" She looked up at Hateya with mock sadness, "I think they are getting bored... should we take them somewhere?"

"Better than none." Hateya retorted, poking her on the forehead.

Lind leaned backwards as Kerel grew closer, overbalancing slighly, and would have fallen over if it werent for the slight nidge in the back which righted him.

Girls were wierd.

With a sigh, Hateya nodded. "Where to?"
