[[Emelyn and Keppit ^_^ heart ]]

Satou kicked the front door with a well aimed forepaw and the thing swung inward violently on it's hinges. She walked through with a sigh...
well done stupid, the door didn't do anything to you.' She turned and nudged the door shut with her tail, this time more gently, but it didn't close all the way.... didn't matter. She was in her mom's house in the middle of the Barton woodlands. There wasn't going to be anyone anywhere nearby so she didn't care about the door.

What she cared about was food! It had been almost a week since she'd eaten propperly. She'd eaten, but not good things, like sandwiches and storebought vegetables... so she made her way over to the fridge and opened it.

The strange thing was that there didn't seem to be anyone in the house... and there wasn't anyone in the back yard either... which REALLY was strange. There were always people around the house...

The calendar on the wall above the trashcan said that Droomi was off at a summer camp, and that Keppit was off on vacation... vacation? the zombie went on vacation? ... saty shrugged. whatever.

She grabbed a plastic bowl in her teeth and loaded it with broccoli and carrots... she'd really missed carrots... And she went to sofa and flipped on the television with her tail. She found herself wondering where the heck the rest of her family were... Gus and Jen, Jim and Ranald, Alexander and of course that toad... they were all still unaccounted for.

There was little that the red Jivvin who stood outside the cabin could stand to use- no skills to get her past this point which she had already reached, and she shivered for the sake of it. The air was not so cold as it was... uninviting, though she reasoned that she was probably overexaggerating- giving herself judgement again through things that couldn't possibly be exerting such opinions on her.

The cabin loomed up in front of her- as small as it was, it still painted a forboding picture to Rhea. She'd come so far already, though, and there was little point in going back. For all she knew, her mother had already found the note.

Coming to the entryway, Rhea sat back on her haunches and, with the back of her large, Jivvin paw, she rapped against the door. She didn't know who she hoped would answer it.

The door hadn't been shut all the way, and as it was knocked on it swung open. Satou groaned and leaned back over the back of the sofa to better see the door... she already knew it wasn't one of her family members because who the heck in her family had the decendy to knock before entering a house? .... Instead it was a red jivvin who looked hauntingly familiar... she'd seen this one before.... seen this one before... but where? .... Ah yes... It was on of Emelyn's kids...

"What do you want? ...."

It was a moment before Rhea spoke- but in her head, the seconds emulsified into one large pause that seemed hastily patched together out of her self-doubt and wonder. When she did speak- her mind said the words with a surer taint than she actually felt.

"I wanted to see you or...Gus." She lied. She had come to see Gus only. He was the one she had met- not this larger one. ...More frightening one. "I wanted to know about the Jivvins. I wanted to see ...you."

Satou laughed and harsh laugh that lasted several seconds before she let it die down. "You wanted to know about Jivvins and you came to see Gus? .... Boy are you confused. Blue boy doesn't know half the things about jivvins that others know... and others don't know half the things about jivvins that I know..." She stood on the couch and hopped over so she could stand where Rhea could see her. "I've been to the wilds village and I'm going back again." She turned and looked at the clock on the cable box (sort of an anti-dramatic thing to do In Saty's opinion, but hey, if you had to know what time it was, then the cable box was pretty straighforward) ... Actually I'm leaving again in less than half an hour..."

She turned towards Rhea and grinned evily at her. "Gus should be back from whereever it is Gus is in a few hours at the most... you can wait for him here if you like." And without even a second glance at the door she hopped back over the sofa and settled into the corner to finish relaxing...

Rhea watched Satou's motions with a sort of open-mouthed awe- as if her ministrations were part of some wild Jivvin dance. When her cousin (if she could even be reasonably called that, with the bizarrely-removed lines in their family tree) retreated to the corner, Rhea followed her with several steps.

"No! I mean- I don't need to speak to Gus. I just didn't know who would be here. ...You said you were leaving? Where are you going?"

Satou's eyes shifted without any other part of her body moving. "To the wild Jivvin village where the Wild..." Each .. "Jivvins" ...word .. "Have" .. was.. "Lived" ...punctuated ... "For" ... harshly..."Generations." ....

The light brown jivvin turned her attention to the red jivvin once she realized she had her audience... "I've been there. I've talked to council members, I've traveled with Jivvin vagabonds...." She narrowed her eyes at the other jivvin ... "I'm sure I can get back there... I don't belong here. I belong with other jivvins, and Gus doens't count. He's too..." She flicked her tail in irritation. "Tame."

Rhea understood with Satou's harsher recitation a little more of the gravity that was attached to this village place- but, like when she'd heard Satou say it earlier, it didn't ring any 'bells' in her head.

"I'm sorry. I guess I don't understand." Her words were carefully chosen. "I don't know... what a 'Wild' or a 'Tame' is- and I... don't know anything about a Council." Her eyes conveyed the rest: that she didn't know anything about Jivvins, and that she wanted to correct that.

"You." she flipped her tail irritably. "You're a tame jivvin... You're bonded to a human and you'll die when that human dies... You can't help it." She narrowed her eyes at Rhea. "I used to be bonded, but my guardian separated me from that bond..." She turned her head away from the other jivvin and nudged a pillow into a better position. "It was... painfull."

"I'm not bonded now, and that means that as long as I take care of myself I'll live forever." This thought obviously brought her great joy for she was suddenly grinning widely as she stared back at the red jivivn. "I'm all but a wild jivvin, putting aside the fact that I was raised by humans."

She leaned forward and sighed... her cousin wasn't going to understand any of this without some basic background. "Listen." in all seriousness. "A long long long time ago, the world here was run by royalty and whatnot... those royal whatevers all liked to live life like they were the most fashionable things in the world, and lucky for us... jivvins were in fashion. We were pets and companions and we were bonded to these humans, each individual jivvin to a particular human." She paused. "Then the peasants of the place decided that they didn't want kings and queens to tell them what to do so they revolted and tried to kill all the kings and queens and whatnots..." Sigh. "Jivvins were considered royal pets and were killed as well. I'm not sure why they even bothered because we die when our bonds die. the royalty knew this and so they began separating the bonds from their pets so two wouldn't die when one did...." she flicked her tail again in anticipation of her favourite part of the story. "The freed jivvins fled into the woods and eventually stared up a vilage for themselves. All in all, now, there have been many and many genereations of wild jivvins living there in the woodlands, and there must be more than a thousand TRUE jivvins living in the village... they don't have bonds, they live free and forever... and it's what we were meant to do... I just know it." And then she stood up as if she was getting ready to leave. "I've been there and it's the only place I've ever felt like I was home... everyone there looks like me and no one there has a bond to a human... I'm going back, because I need to know if I'm ready for a crystal." ....

She looked over at the younger jivvin expectantly.

Throughout Satou's hushed and wonderful history of the Jivvins origins in brief- the look upon Rhea's face rode a carousel of emotions. What a wonderful, magical idea- that they had been connected to royalty; something about that fact alone gave Rhea a greater sense of purpose and connection to her past than she'd ever felt before. Throughout, however, there was an underpinning of fear and paleness to her- that she would die, and that she was 'bonded'. She'd never heard of it before- and it frightened her that she was so attached to the fate of another person. All at once, a new and delicate fear gripped the girl who already had so many. The fear of death- was now the most exquisitely kept terror in her collection.

"I'm... bonded to... a human..." it was less than a question, and more than a statement. "Who? How can I get away from that bond? I don't want to die. And what is..." her voice dropped to a hushed whisper, as if they were suddenly no longer alone, "a crystal? What does it do?"

"You're bonded to whatever human expects you to call her mom, or him dad. I suspect... that your bond is Aunt Em." She turned and strode over to the window.... just to make sure no one was comming up.

"You've seen Gus? The short, but somehow still taller than you and me, blue earred, blue tailed jivvin man that I call my brother?" She leaned forward. "He's got a crystal. Jack gave it to him." The way she said this proved that she felt Jack was an authority in the crystal department. "You're ready and Jack takes you to the woods and helps you retieve a crystal from the forest somewhere. Once you touch the crystal... BAM!" She filpped her tail and popped Rhea on the nose with the tip of it. "Next thing you know, you're standing on two legs and hitchhiking with your new thumbs." Satou was smiling...

But not me. I'm going to go live in the village and that's where I'll find out more about the bonds and about the ways of our kind... And I'll be gifted a crystal... I won't have to go rooting through the woods hoping to get it before someone else does." .... .... ... she paused and stared back at her red cousin.... Rhea certainly looked interested in almost everything Satou had to say, and Satou found herself loving the audience... maybe the Jivviness would become good company too....

"You know... I don't really know how to sever a bond." She sat down and stared back at Rhea. "I didn't sever mine, my original mom did... but I bet that Raechel would know more... she's a wild jivvin, a little too nice, but she might know. ... ... ... I could ask her for you... or you could come with me and ask her yourself...."

Even if the words were telepathic, they still carried such a heavy weight. They seemed to hang in the air. Rhea just shook her head in amazement.

"Yes- I'd love to come. Please. I have to know."

Satou was overjoyed at the offer of company on the trip. but she tried her very best now to show it. "I suppose you could come along... You should probably ask your Mom first." She walked to the kitchen area and pulled open the refrigerator with her tail. "You should also eat and get ready to walk... a long long long way."

"How long have you been away from your family before? At one time I mean." Satou had been finding that she missed the company of Ranald at times... It was kind of sad that she wasn't here now.

"I'm ready to go. I'm ready to go now. I came here to see..." she stopped herself short of saying 'Gus', "...see you. And then I was going to walk to the center. Or through the woods. Or anywhere. ...And I don't need to ask my Mother." She didn't say, though the sentiment was rather clear... that she had not asked anything of Emelyn as to this journey thus far- and she wasn't about to start. There was not a defiance there, not any sort of angry or willful meaning behind it: she knew that her running away would cause her mother pain, and it pained her, as well- but there were some things more important than asking permission. She couldn't risk her mother telling her no. Not when she needed to know so very badly.

"I've never been alone completely. There's always someone in the house. ...Even if it's only Sk."

"ah well." Satou let the staement rest high in the air. She didn't REALLY care what rhea did or didn't tell the zombie's sister.... ah the zombie. Saty actually missed her too... stupid vacation.

"So we need some food and then some whatever." she jumped to the second sofa and picked up a bag in her teeth. Ranald had specifically tightened the straps so that Satou could wear it and not have it bang against her legs or drag on the ground. She went to the cupboard and started to pile non perrishable food items in it. "If you need meat then there's jerky in the cookie jar." She rolled her eyes... jerky in the cookie jar. Best to miss them, but not live with them...

"And we need to leave." She turned and strode over to the front door, bag in her teeth in case Rhea needed to add anything to it.
