There comes a time when playing guitar when you must choose what the best option is: To sing the song as you play, or just play 10 times better to make up for it. xd
Singing tends to be an issue with me because I'm not as confident in my as others. I've been told I should join choir, but I don't hear it. In my case, My best singinging voice is very low... almost countryish. However, I like singing higher and all punk-rockish when I'm alone or just goofing off.
------------------ ------------------
Right now, I'm perfecting Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here", and for those that have heard it, they would know if is a huge vocal piece. Thus, I'm trying to voice train myself. Trying to make my higher singing voice have the tone of my lower without my voice cracking or sounding like its coming through my lungs instead of my gut. As of now (its been afew weeks), it sounds much better. It could be because my sisters moving out so I can sing whenever without her getting mad. rolleyes Right now I'm trying to make my voice a little raspier. (Which is odd, because I can do a heavy metal scream quite well, but don'thave the rasp when I'm singing. neutral )
Discussion: How confident are you in your singing voice? Can you sing well while playing guitar? Your favorite vocal song (that you can play).

If you can sing while playing and your voice doesn't suck, go for it. I'm confident in my singing, can't do it as well while playing, and I never finished a song doing both. It's damn hard.

One question: If you are playing Wish You Were Here, does that mean you are including the scat section of the guitar solo?

Well, given that Wish You were here is played on multiple guitars, I take the best parts and mix them. Thus, I do the 12 string acoustic opening on my guitar, then I do the main intro, onto chords with lyrics. I switch off from chords to the solos everyone once in a while, but I think being only one player, the chord sound better alone.

I can sing. That's all I'm gonna say. It's not traditional singing, yet not growling either (think Rammstein or Megaherz). My only issue is I can NOT play at the same time as i sing. That menas if im ever in a band in which i need to sing, I'll have to stop playing to sing verses.

I'm a very stong bass singer. This doesn't work to well when it comes to band works. I can't play and sing all that well, but I'm working on it.

i am a very gifted baritone, and i'm not afraid to brag about it. in my band, i am the lead singer and lone guitarist. my favorite song to sing while playing is probly "whiskey lullaby" by brad paisley.

how about sing AND rule at guitar? Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom is lead guitar and vocals. its a sad fact that almost all the money in a band will always go to the singer and the songwriter. my best advice on this, learn to play and sing at the same time. even if ur not quite as good while u sing, it still is an invaluable ability.

I can sing and play. biggrin It took me a while to learn how to though. The first song I tryed singing with was Interpol's "Evil". I couldn't get it, so I just slowed down the song 100x. Ever since, singing is a breeze with any song.

I find it easier to sign when I am learning a song, but I don't concentrate on making my voice sound right until I know the song well. And ever then it doesn't sound right. Or nice.

Same. Usually when I learn a song, I'll sing too, but I'll make it sound very crappy. Then once I can play and sing at the same time, I improve my voice.
