She had been resting under her favourite tree for a few days, taking in water every now and then, for she had been too tired to venture out to find the rock-plants that usually gave her all the moisture she needed.
The air was warm, and thicker than usual... the little grey Klipspringer almost found herself choking on it. The sun itself was rising, and it would have been a beautiful sunrise, had it not been raining.

The drops splattered against the earth, descending from the heavens. At first, they had spiralled down slowly, but then the rain had quickened, and soon the drops were everywhere.

Everything was suddenly hot and cold, all at once. The klipspringer raised her head, wearily, feeling too tired to move out of the rain. She, instead, let the water fall, allowing it to run down in streams upon her face, and drip off her chin. So much rain was falling... and yet, she still felt so... hot.

Chachili's forehead burned. She felt light-headed. Sick. Dizzy.

'What's wrong with me?' she thought, heaving, 'Why am I...?'

Then she knew. It was time.

She needed to find a safe place, and quickly. The klipspringer dragged herself, painfully, into higher grass. Predators never usually came here... there were snakes about. These snakes were a risk to Chachili, too, but she didn't care.

"I'd rather snakes than lions," she grunted, then collapsed as pain shot from her stomach, through to all of her body.

Shaking, Chachili groaned, then let a wave of pain rush over her.

It had begun. That beautiful, terrifying event was about to take place.

Chachili was going to be a mother.

The rain neither bothered Leboya, nor deterred the lioness from her wanderings, as, as she did everyday, the brightly colored female strolled through the grass, her eyes closed and navigating with her sense of smell alone, so she could otherwise, enjoy the sounds of nature...

However, a certain.. undenible scent caught her nose, causing her to open her eyes with a start.

There's a scent of imbalance in the air, and of severed fluids.... hmm..

Though the lioness could not tie her limited knowledge of the situation to that of a birthing, she COULD however, tie it to her own curiousity, which forced her to liven her step, looking about for the source of the same thing that made her pique her interests in finding out what was going on.

Her first thought was that it was perhaps the scent of a female in heat.. but..

last she had checked, was that something that the female kind couldn't smell, which left her to easily get her mind lost again, her absent minded wandering leaving her at a lower-grounded base of land, her location under a tree.

Curiously, she sniffed the bark of the plant, confiming that it was the same scent, trailing along it with her nose, before looking up through the grass, quirking a brow.

Up there?

Nodding, she walked through the grasses, holding her head up high, to keep any creature whom most likely would have taken her as a predator from thinking she were there to eat them.

No.. she'd already fed as of late, and needed not to do it again.

Stopping short, the lioness stared down at the female klipspringer hidden in the grass, frowning.. this.. seemed rather like...

....

Oh.

Her only movement from there was a slight leaning forward, rubbing her nose against the klipspringer's side in a sort of 'I come in peace' gesture, before leaning back to give the female her space, or even to leave, should the request have been barked at her.

The wind was pulling Koin back where he came from. Like him, he always followed it. The smelled Chachili from a bit off. "Hmmmm...." he said and followed her scent.

Koin padded closer to Chachili's sent. Her scent was different in a way. He pushed through the large grass to serch for his hoofed friend. He went by sent alone, not wanting to call attention to the klipspringer, or himself.

He sniffed again. A lion. He pushed through the grass to see a colored lion, ad the familliar Klipspringer.

Chachili twitched a little, then turned her head. It took a lot of her energy to even do such simple a task, yet she had caught on to the scent of someone unknown, someone uninvited, and so she naturally felt frightened and very much exposed.

And that's when she saw it. Standing not so far off from her, sporting a vibrant purple coat, and blinking with red, gleaming eyes. It was like nothing she'd ever seen before.

A lion... without it's mane?...

Shivering a little, the klipspringer tried to focus on lifting herself up. If there was a lion here, she couldn't feel safe at all. Not during such a vulnerable time... she had already had a bad experience with a lion in the past, and hardly wanted another.
A sharp, red-hot pain put her mind back to her fawns. They were coming.

Her fawns were coming, her insides were churning, and oh, how it hurt!
She wanted to get away. She wanted to run. But she was forced down by that pain. She was cramping up.

Through the panic, Chachili hardly felt the nudge that the lioness had given her, though, for some reason, she felt more at ease.

"Don't... touch... me..." she groaned at the stranger, rolling over a little. She was not yet aware of Koin's prescence, however. If she had been, she would've called out to him straight away.

Leboya frowned at how panicked the motions of the mother-to-be were, but nodded at her request, doing well to rise, and further move herself back, while still within sight so her actions could be monitered, while she herself could make no contact with Chachili.

"Very well, I will keep my being from coming into contact with yours, or those coming on the way." she replied, her voice calm and submissive to the other's wishes.

She couldn't help but have to listen, not only within her nature.. but as her own instincts told her that she wouldn't have wanted to be pestered by a stranger during such a fragile time, birthing...

No, she'd not stand for that.

Koin stepped closer to Chachili. He gave the lion a calm look, seeing as she automatically complied to the klipspringers whishes. He lightly touched Chachili with his muzzle, so she would notice him and maybe calm down a little bit.

He kept a monitoring eye on the stranger, so she would not bother Chachili too much, his ears flicked to any sound. He wondered lightly what was going on. He didn't have too muh knowlege on birthing.

Chachili watched, listened, as the stranger spoke.
Her words seemed friendly, and her tone didn't sound threatening, though everything was like a blur... the world was becoming fuzzier, stranger, as if Chachili wasn't even concious.

But she was!

And how she felt it. The aches were getting stronger, the pain more severe, and the klipspringer couldn't help but let out a shrill fear scream through her nose, like most klipspringers did when they felt threatened.

The lioness was her main concern. She was sitting there, still, but Chachili still felt uncomfortable... this was a lion! A lion!

Huffing, she lowered her head. Alright, so she was in a tight spot. But something was still bugging her.

"Your name..." Chachili groaned, gritting her teeth together in hope of soothing the pain, "Please tell me your name. I... don't feel comfortable, not knowing someone's... urrrrghhhh!"

She moaned, then rolled over a little, huffing.
Then, another scent drew near. It was the scent of someone she knew, someone she trusted. Blinking, Chachili caught the frame of Koin, staring down upon her.

"Koin," she moaned, feeling more at ease, but embarrassed at the state she was in, "Thank goodness..."

If the lioness tried anything, Koin could protect her. She felt so much more at ease. Giving a shudder, she relaxed.
Then, suddenly, her eyes widened.

"Uh...well, I don't mean to startle everyone, but... they're coming..."

"If I am bothering you, I will leave you to me." Leboya said first, before she turned her attention back to the other request; "Leboya. That is my name." she complied, her body shifting a bit, almost a sense of curious concern aching her form, though she did remain outside of the range of the panicked birther, and instead looking to the wild dog, smiling, and nodding to him, a silent hello to the stranger.

Looking back to the klipspringer, she purred the suggestion of; "Birthing will hurt, I'm sure.. but try to take deeper breathes, it will help you focus on getting your young ones out, and then you will have both them, and yourself, closer to a more firm state of safety against your predators."

Koin laid down near the birthing Klips. By instict, he knew that she would have to do it alone. His eyes glinted a bit everytime she churned in pain. His ears still flicked with every sound. He nodded back to the lion and listen to her speak, but also listening for everything or anything else.

Chachili was no longer in a suitable state to snap at the lioness, or to show any distrust. Her thoughts were now centered on her fawns, and only her fawns.

"Leboya..." she whispered, then nodded, "Thankyou for your advice, Leboya."

This 'Leboya' had a voice laced with kindness. It seemed like a soft voice, a friendly one, and Chachili wondered if Leboya was really a lion. She couldn't be! Lions weren't like this... were they?

Well, Leboya didn't have a mane.
And Koin was there, anyway. She didn't have to worry, right?

Suddenly, pain jolted through her body, and Chachili's thoughts switched back again. She shuddered, letting the wave of pain course through her body.

'Here it comes,' she thought, bracing herself. And they came.

First, a little head, followed by legs. Chachili couldn't see anything much, but could feel it coming, flowing through her, and could smell fresh blood on the wind.

She gave a heave, and out it flopped. It was a darker grey, just like her, but had a few... different traits. Chachili couldn't stop to look for long, for the pain flowed through her body again, but she glanced at the fawn lovingly.

"My firstborn," she whimpered, then collapsed again, "It's... happening! All over again..."

Another fawn was coming.

Makuu felt lost; falling. Where had his oasis gone, of which he only felt warmth against his mother's body, and that of his brother's? This place was cold and hard, with this season's warm winds blowing off the tall, savannah grass and enveloping the newborn's fragile frame.

Warmth began to grow inside his body like light; growing from every shard of warmth which his small body could provide for himself. Feeling lost, he struggled to move. Unaware of this ability, and expecting a mere twitch, he bucked forward a hoove, which, in turn, landed with a thump beside him.

There was a strange smell .. his mother? It had to be. Straining forward, the small fawn managed to reach his mother's side, and pressed his cool head against hers for warmth. He was here.

"You're welcome." she replied, teetering in place, but stood up, attempting to balance on her hind paws to see the young one that had just been born, a smile coming over her face.

".. Aww.. he's beautiful, stranger.."

There wasn't much else she could call the birthing female, as she herself had received no name, and wasn't about to inquiry about one until she was sure the mother was ready to give her one.

Sitting down again, she took a deep breath, telling her brain 'no, blood doesn't mean jump and lick the little one. Mommy will freak out', and instead remained in place.

"You're doing fine!" she then called out to the Klipspringer encouragingly.. afterall.. she -was-.

Chachili's heartbeat quickened. She lay, head pressed against the smooth, african soil, her head spinning.

"Here it co..." her sentence was cut off by a moan, and Chachili's body shook as the fawn came. First, a hoof. Then, Chachili could feel a head, a body, her fawn, as it slid out of her stomach and onto the grass.

Chachili gave an exhausted sigh, then felt relief pulse through her body.

It's all over, now.

And what an event it had been. Chachili had never felt anything like it... it was a feeling that was extraordinarily alien to her. But now, they had come. Her fawns.

Mustering up her remaining strength, Chachili gingerly turned towards her fawns. They were bloody, and covered in a thin layer of slime, but they were alive!

"Beautiful," she gasped.

There were two. One looked increasingly like her... a dark grey coat, white splotched fur and a mixed arrangement of coloured hooves. His nose was also a bizarre colour, a colour that reminded Chachili of the fawn's father.

The b*****d.

He hadn't come. He hadn't seen these fawns. Chachili felt guilt build up inside her throat, and then forced it back down again. No. She couldn't blame him. Not at all. But now wasn't the time to be thinking about this.

She turned to her second-born, a silver fawn with ringed markings about his legs. He, too, was beautiful. Chachili lovingly nudged him, and then turned to her first-born, licking his ear.

"Thank goodness it's over," she sighed, looking at Leboya and Koin, "Thanks for being there. By my side. It helped me cope, I think."

She respected Koin's silence during the ordeal, for it made her less ashamed of the terrible state she had been in when he had found her. And Leboya? Her words had seen her through, soothing her.

"Leboya," she grinned, looking over to the lioness, "Well, I'm Chachili. I don't believe we've met before. And that, there," she motioned towards Koin, "That's Koin. A friend of mine."

She looked sadly towards her cubs, realising how exhausted she was. She'd need to rest. And soon. But only after all the thanking had been done.

Rising up, the lioness appraoched the now, seemingly, better Chachili, smiling and bowing her head out of respect to the new mother.

"Ah. They're both beautiful, Chachili." she purred, nodding, then confirming the thought the other had had; "Indeed, I was just wandering past, this was a meeting of chance." she said, before looking over to the wild dog, bowing her head to him as well.

"Koin. Fine name, you did well to keep yourself nearby as a protector, though I would have hardly desired to attack your friend." she said, defending herself against the stereotype that her kind had been labelled with. She wasn't no big scary lion of d00m! D<

She.. was Leboya.. whatever that meant to any.

The lioness then nudged towards, but still repected the wish of 'no touching', thus made no contact with, the klipspringer. "I do suggest you rest now, however. You need to regain your strength before the animals of the hunt pick out the scent of your birthing and get ideas."

Koin nodded once again, once his name was mentioned. He gave a smile and sat up streching a bit.He watched the two fawns. They were both alive and well. It made him happy to know that.

"I didn't really expect you to," he replied to the lioness. "But one can never be too sure."

Koin would probably watch Chachili sleep again to make sure she was safe from all harm. Even more so after she used all her energy in birthing. His ears flicked.

"What are you to name your fawns, Chachili?" Koin asked, sitting down slightly closer to her.
