			            "Seeking Strength" Chapter 4:Malik/Phib/Amelie ------------------------------------------------------------------

Running as fast as his paws could carry him Malik seemed to be runing on air. Heart beating incredibly fast he weaved between teh high trees adn underbrush trying to pick up a scent of Phib or Amelie, Amelie would know where Phib was no doubt. But finding Phib alone would be difficult.

Malik contemplated on howling out to him, but then that could alarm others, adn Malik didn't want to start a panick without cause.

 So he just kept running.

Hoping that he'd pick up Phib's scent or Amelie would be nearby. Usually Rage was with Amelie, but Malik hadn't seen rage all morning...or that new female Nix. This was all to much and Malik was unsure of what to do at this point.

He only knew he had to find Phib, fast.

Elsewhere, Phib was thoroughly distracted. He had become aware the night before that Audi had swept herself off into the night, and he’d already had Amélie’s confirmation that her intent was to return to Phantom. He hated to think that she had become just another one of his puppets. There was far too much potential in Audi to be wasted on a fool like him. But with that said- he wasn’t Audi’s father. In fact, if anything he’d been her captor. What else would be was all up to fate.
With a light grunt, he shifted his head, which was currently nestled somewhat ahinge on Amélie’s shoulder. She was sleeping- or at least, pretending to be, the corner of her tail crooked against his elbow. She moved now and then to accommodate his shifting positions, and otherwise the two remained somewhat lethargically curled outside their summer den. In the fall they would switch back to the commons- but for now, it was at least pleasant.

Phib shifted, and slowly inhaled. He felt miserably lethargic, and had he been any other man he probably would have felt all the pressure was starting to burn him out. But he knew that he loved the trouble, despite whatever else he might say.

He hated to think he was tired simply because he was getting older.

Skidding to a halt before slamming into a tree Malik shook his head and tried to clear his vision and figure out where he was in perspective to everything else. To him this was his biggest test now, to prove he was worthy of being in this pack with Phib. Malik promised himself he would be a great wolf in Phib's eyes, and thats what he would do.
Malik in a way, saw Phib as a father figure.

Though he would never admit that to anyone but himself. What would others think? A weak orphan looking for protection? No. Malik wanted to be a strong adn great wolf like Phib. He'd find a way. But for now, he jsut needed to figure out where Phib would be, and how to approach him.

Which was another problem to figure out.

Bolting out again Malik tried to figure out what he would say if Amelie was with Phib. He wouldn't want Amelie to be alarmed, though she would know what was going on (this Malik did not know). Regardless he took off in the direction of where their den was. Hopefully Phib was there. Malik wasn't sure if he shuld've gone to get Phib or gone and found teh intruder and confronted him. But from what he saw happened to that new wolf Logan...finding Phib was the best idea.

Stopping again and trying to catch his breath he pawed forward, seeing a black mass come into view, light silver beside it. Finally. Panting and have choking Malik tried to be as calm and quiet as possible, in case they were sleeping,
"Phib...there's...trouble...he's...here..." Malik said in between breaths. Now hoping he'd figure out what he was supposed to do in this situation.

Unfortunately, saying ‘he’s here’ popped a lot of nasty characters into Phib’s mind, and they suddenly melded into one disgustingly awful possibility. But at once the black wolf’s veins started to burn and he was up onto his feet, his body tensed and aching for some sort of movement. Beneath him Amélie sucked in some breath and seemed to become vacant as she tuned the rest of the world out and attempted to figure out what was going on for herself.
Phib stepped over the tiny grey and moved towards Malik, the back of his hackles raised. “What? Who is here?” Phib compulsivly asked. Phantom? Surely it wasn’t that time. Then who else would it be? But Phib had enough experience in near crisis situations to know that time got lost too quickly in questioning. Malik was still struggling to catch his breath.

The black king moved forwards and crossed the side of Malik, deciding to drop the questioning and instead bring himself to the problem and figure out. “Go- where is he?”

Malik caught his breath best he could. Seeing Phib jump into a differnet state of mind etched a picture in his mind to remember. He looked strong and sure of what he could do, something Malik hoped he could appear someday."He was by the borders...Logan..." Malik said rushing trying to get out as much information as quick as possible, "Logan's hurt...but he's trying to find that other female...I didn't see him....but I think its that wolf Daemon talked about..."

Malik turned and started going back into the forest where he emerged, "I can take you to where there's a vague scent...but..." Malik gulped. If it was the wolf Daemon had spoken of...there was another problem, "I don't know where Rage is."

His tail shifted and his stomach sank. Arguin had tried to kill or take Rage away before. But what would this wolf do? He already hurt Logan, but what was the point? ALl Malik could do was wait for Phib to tell him what to do, either find others to find the wolf, or take him somewhere.

A burning in Phib. He bristled and tensed his body, his ears already ringing with thoughts. Logan was injured? He had not had a much meeting with the other wolf, but he remembered the male had recently returned with a pair of females- had it been them that Malik meant? Although certainly the idea of Logan being hurt was enough to infuriate the old king, the idea of a woman being injured simply made him livid.
But far too much was being wasted on pacing. The black brute quickly jerked to the left, and started to move along the path he scented Malik on. “Hurry then- don’t mind about Rage.” His gruff voice pulled, and he broke off down the path, hopefully with the other male in tow. They needed to be quick. He’d fix whatever damn fool thought he could cross him.

“Ame-“ Phib shouted before they completely vanished off, and the grey female snapped out of it and gazed blindly forwards.

Follow Malik! The female spoke sharply in his mind, and chased off after the pair, training her mind upon their thoughts. I am with you.

Malik kept going, Phib close by him. He also knew Amelie was going to be coming after them as well. Might as well, with that wolf out there, Amelie alone might not be the best of ideas. His nose to the wind as it blew gently through teh canopy above and whistled through the underbrush Malik only had a faint scent to go by to bring Phib to wehere he caught it first.
 It was slowly trailing away.

This wouldn't do. The scent quickly fading, Logan off somewhere finding whoever it was he needed to find. Rage missing...wait...Nix was missing this morning too when Malik went to go see them. It seemed rather usual but unusual, that they'd both be missing from a spot they were normally at in the morning.

Skaing that thought from mind Malik stopped in a slight clearing, "This is it...where I found Logan..." he said making a gesture with his paw to teh trail of blood that went west from where he was standing. Logan had moved, damn him, he should've known better. He'd lose blood if he moved. But perhaps Logan's will Malik did not understand.

"What should we do?" Malik asked Phib with his wild red eyes holding uncertaintly within them. Malik had trained as much as he could to get faster and stronger to look strong for Phib. But in this circumstance, Malik wasn't sure what to do. "Should we find the others? Search out widely for him?" he asked referring to the other guards Malik knew of. Daemon and Wrigley of that sort, Cellen surely, Cael too. Cael would want in on this for sure...least what Malik thought.

Arguin however Malik didn't trust, not after what happened. With the thought of Arguin a hate seemed to brew in the pit of his stomach, and Malik could've sworn that Arguin was nearby, moving somewhere...the wind was carrying his scent faintly, just like the other wolf's scent. Which brought another question to Malik's mind...

 Was Arguin on their side?

Phib bounded behind Malik, following the thick scent. He could already catch the smell of another male on the wind, and it was burning his temples with hot anger. He did not tolerate this. In the old country wolves knew better then to come onto his lands. He would not have this! The fact that it was some stranger made him angrier. He probably would have been more tolerant from an invasion of a true enemy- but this fellow was a nobody to him. Sure, he had been spoken of by Daemon before. And he had taken it to mind- but just because something was mentioned did not mean he approved of it going against him. A saner person might have noted it sounded recklessly insane- but Phib liked to know his enemies. He liked to have enemies. But he did not like to have shadows slithering around in places he could not see.
Behind the boys but somewhat at a distance, Amélie ran behind, although her path was curving somewhat both as the scent changed and as her mind began to frantically trace back memories up to the point of where they were not. She was a frail girl- but despite that, she seemed rather stalwart against the panic of the moment. This was not the first time the small grey had been through a crisis.

It was beginning to seem like there would never really be an end to them.

Phib pulled to a stop, his eyes directing their attention to the droplets and splatters of blood on the earth where Logan had once been. Phib craned his neck in the opposite direction Logan dragged himself, and bristled. “Find him, Logan can take care of himself. More damage is done with him roaming the woods unchecked.”

Lifting his head, the black wolf gave a quick, sharp howl to alert anyone nearby that something was not right.
