I'm prety sure that nobody cares very much about my other hobbys, but I customize 1/6th scale dolls. I'm not sure what to name my newest creation. Eventualy when I figure out how to get or make a horn she is going to be a unicorn girl. I've narowed it down a little. Please help me chose between the remaining names.

Her hair is white, her skin is pale, and her eyes are violet. I've decided she is shy but sweet.

also: just so's yah know... I'd rather not name her Acorna or Lady Amalthia... those names are already taken. She's not ether of those characters.

She's going to have a horn... like Lum?

Of those choices, I like Lyssa the best. Probably cause I prefer female names that end in "a".

Blodwen reminds me of The Green Death, cos some Welsh guy kept calling Jo Grant that. The doll doesn't seem as scatterbrained as Jo...

Blodwen means white flower in welsh. Lyssa is a protracted version of Alyssum which in the language of flowers means nobility and its usualy white.
The horn isn't going to look so much like Lum's as it is a unicorns horn comeing from a womans head. So less like a demon and more like this: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Evadine doesn't end with an a. xp

I have a friend who makes soft-sculpture dolls, doll clothing, doll houses & furniture, doll jewelry, etc. (Very talented & creative. And she writes!) She just got a Super-Dolphie this year (named it Mercedes because it cost so much). She's extremely delighted with Mercedes & posts pics of her in her LJ & stuff.
Would you like me to ask her about the logistics of affixing a unicorn horn onto a doll head? I'll bet she would have good ideas. 3nodding

What sculpt did she get? probably a 1/3rd scale model from volks. I've got two 1/6th scale dolls from volks and I'm going to get about 4 or 5 more (but from a different company called Obitsu)in a couple of weeks. I want a 1/4th scale doll,, but the sculpt I had my heart set on is soldout.. and I don't know if they are ever going to make anymore. crying http://www.dollmore.net/shop/step1.php?number=105 All the others are ether expensive or ugly... I am about to get enough money to buy her in a week if she hadn't sold out....
Dollfies in 1/6th scale cost from 15-50 (100 if it is one of a kind) and 1/4 - 13rd scale costs anywhere from 300-1000 dollars.
I know exactly how I am going to attach her horn. I just need to get it first. I want it to be made out of gold.. and I have some scrap gold lying around.. but I am at odds as how to cast or commision someone to cast such a fine metal. My boyfriend says I should just give it up and have it made out of sculpey... but I want it to look awesome and actualy be awesome.

My friend's LJ
You can see pics of not only Mercedes but a bunch of other Dolfies my friend met when she went to a big gathering in her area a while back.
I don't know her scale but I'm sure you will know when you see her.

You can also see my friend's kids (my honorary niece & nephew! heart heart heart ) & hear about her writings & her new teaching job & stuff if you want.
Man, is she busy. sweatdrop

Do you know how to cast metals? And are you wanting the horn to look ornate, or just be a simple, smooth horn? If the former, I'd get someone expert in the work if it were my project.

xd Her baby is so cute! People always think my middle name is Elizabeth.. but its not even though thats a wonderful name.
I was right, she got a Volks. It looks like a Nana, Megu, or Sara.. but haveing never seen one up close I have no idea. I went to a Meet-up at A-kon, but because I have 1/6th scale dolls I was rather the outcast. The smaller doll owners are looked down upon by the larger. See.. the little ones don't cost as much and they aren't strung, plus they are ususaly made of a different plastic. I did however get to hold this little beauty:

which is hard to see because I'm a crap photographer... but thats a centaur. Its a very famous model because shes esentialy two dolls.. she comes with human hips and legs in adition to the horse body. I almost cried in joy.

I know HOW to cast gold.. there is just simply no way I could possibly do it on my own here in my house. There is special wax that you carve and that they make a mold out of... so thats the easy part... its finding someone who will heat the gold up and pour it into the mold for me. I seriously don't know who I would goto for that sort of thing. I can't just do it on my kitchen stove.. so yeah.. thats where I am.

eek That's one wild doll. I think my friend's doll is a Megu--sounds familiar.
Is there any SCA in your area? They have a lot of skilled artisans. One might be able to help you.

Lyssa is the nicest flowing name of the list, and I think works best. Translation-wise, I like white flower best.
PostPosted: Sat Aug 19, 2006 10:23 am

lyssa doesn't mean white flower.. It means nobility. Alyssum is usualy a white flower but it also comes in blue and pink.
Blodwen means white flower. Its welsh.
I think the reason people like Lyssa best is because it sounds like a name someone would have. I know someone named Lyssa. I'm actualy not sure if I like it at all as a name. To me it sounds insipid. It doesn't carry any of the beauty of a flower, just the silent unmoveing nature of a flower. Lyssa sounds like the name of a girl that doesn't have any opinion. I duno.. why is Lyssa a good name to you guys??? (I really do want to now your opinions)

Lyssa sounds graceful--but to me it also sounds like Nyssa.
Blodwen has a nice meaning, but it doesn't sound very graceful.
Hanako is a nice name, sounds Japanese, which is appropriate since the doll is from Japan. Meaning sounds like she is a hippie. biggrin
I dunno...I just like Clover....
PostPosted: Sun Aug 20, 2006 5:40 pm

Hanako sounds Japanese because it is Japanese heart tee hee!
I just like lover too.. thats why I had to add it even though its a plain name to have. There is something about it eh?

Clover flowers are pretty common, but they are also small & delicate-looking. 3nodding
