Eh....I don't really read Sci-fi all that much, but I guess House of the Scorpion would have to be my favorite that I've read. The Cure was good to though.
As for movies......Pitch Black or The Faculty. Oh! And the Fifth Element!

I agree with The Fifth Element.
The book trilogy Slave Trade was really good. Usually I'm not too happy with the split character POVs in books, but that one was done really well. Very interesting storyline too. ^.^ Woo.

If you look up the Ender's Series, don't forget the parallels featuring Bean! Much fun as well.

the last sci fi series i read was the dune series when it was still being published by the orginal author(that should give you the idea) its pretty decent

Does a tv show count? Well, I say it does, I LOVE Stargate! Both of 'em! Not only do I get my sci-fi, I learn a little, too! I learn those weird theories, and culture (like egyptian, and stuff)!
