What's you're favorite place to buy/get books? I tend to shy away form the library, I destroy most books. xp
Out of bookstores, my favorite has to be Borders. They have a little cafe thing, and nice chairs, and really, really good selection..Barnes and Noble just can't compete.
Do you borrow from friends? I asked one of my friend's this question, and she said my room. o.0 All of my friends tend to raid my bookcase in case they need a new book because it has so many different genres. And alot of teen fluff, which I adore.

georgette_x I asked one of my friend's this question, and she said my room. That happens to me all the time...sometimes I have to write down all the books i have lent to people so I remember. Anyway...I agree with you completely Borders is deffinately the best...

Eh, The only Borders near me is located in the mall, and has very little selection, along with no caffe or anything, it doesnt even have any chairs to sit on. gonk
However, My B&N has a little caffe, big cozy armchairs, and the best selection of any bookstore in the area, I gues it really depends on where you live.

The Borders around here is small and chairless, but it has six entire shelves of manga to sit under and read. xD B&N has lots of cushy chairs and a Starbucks in it. And it's a lot bigger than the Borders here.
I prefer to buy my books from there. I like actually owning them, since I constantly lend them to people and reread them. It's more conveient. Garage sales/flea markets have to be the best place to buy 'em. They're usually around 50 cents to a dollar for a good paperback in the ones held around here, and there are a ton to choose from.

hum......I often borrow boooks from the library, and then decide to buy that same book later on! xd for prices, I like book sales and such, but for atmosphere, definetly Borders. I am NOT a fan of Amazon.com for buying books. Half the fun of buying a book is just browesing all the aisles!

I don't know how large the chain is but we have something called Joseph-Beth Booksellers and they're pretty great. I also like Amazon.com when I know what I want to buy and want to get it cheap! smile I like the library too, but sometimes I end up finding a book I've loaned online to buy it!

We have this nifty little used bookstore in my town, and most of the time they sell their books for $3 to $4 for paperbacks, and anywhere from $5 to $10 for hardback. Though, when the books are ordered new, then they are full price. But for the most part, it's a wonderful place and the books are always in splendid condition. That's one of my favourite places to purchase books. Though, I must say, whenever I can go, I love shopping at Books-A-Million. It's warm and cozy, and has that delicious coffee smell. o3o

I usually just shop at Borders or on the Internet. Sometimes I also like to visit the local used bookstore and buy something there. Or I'll hit up a sale at the library.

cocoONneptune I love borders even though i rarely buy books and borders always seem to be too expensive for me. i just love the atmosphere there. so cozy. I feel guilty when spending money so i usually stick with the library. Borders is too expensive? I got The Complete Works of Shakespeare there for 20 dollars. Granted, they published the book themselves, so that's probably why it was so cheap. The only thing less than an hour away is our local bookstore, though, and it doesn't have much selection, so I usually stick to Amazon. I buy some pretty obscure books that wouldn't be in even a big bookstore anyways.

I like independent bookstores and used bookstores. My hometown has a great indy bookstore that has a good selection, and will order books in if they don't have it. I also like to hunt out used bookstores. I try my hardest to stay away from Borders and Barnes & Nobel. I just have a thing against the establishment.

Have any of you ever heard of Half Price Books? Its a used bookstore chain. (I work at one) It's family owned with over 100 stores now. They vary by location as far as what kind of selection they have, but I always manage to spend my money there. (Yes I'm biased, but I did shop HPB before I worked in one.) They have a website with locations if anyone is interested. Other than that I used to buy an occasion paperback from borders and I've once or twice ordered from amazon. Mostly garage sales and thrift store finds.

As much as I enjoy visiting Borders, I prefer to buy books from used bookshops. I find it interesting to see what other people have discarded and have come across enjoyable reads by browsing these shelves to see what their inventory holds. I also need to be a thrifty spender so it works better for me to look into secondhand books. I don't feel that I've wasted too much money if the book I purchase turns out to be a bad read that way.
