*Notes* This is my first fan-fic/story. The setting is in a parrallel universe where Yugi loses to Pegasus and where Tristan sets off for revenge. There is no love or sex or whatever, just a bunch of fighting and dueling and megolomaniacs. I'll try to update the story at least once a week. So with out further ado here's the Prologue and the first five chapters that I have already written on another website. Hope you enjoy.
Tristan just sat with his back against the wall of Trusdale's game shop. Across his lap lay the light-brown knapsack that Mai had given him and his friends. Inside were Yugi and Joey's decks along with an assortment of food and clothing.
It had been almost three weeks since the end of the Duelist Kingdom tournament and still Tristan couldn't get out of his state of grieving. His average grades at school started to drop below failing, he was irritable with his parents, and when he got off of school he just sat in front of the game shop thinking. This day was no different.
He thought of Tea then. When they got back to Domino City from Duelist Kingdom she had been like him, oblivious to everything but what had happened. She suddenly disappeared, but upon closer investigation Tristan figured out from her parents that she had finally gone off to New York to study ballet. Her parents said that it was good for her to get away from Domino City after what had happened and Tristan didn't blame her. Tristan, however, had no such escape. He just sat in front of the card shop.
Earlier that day he had made up his mind to go on a journey to find Pegasus and get his revenge by any means necessary. He decided to pay one last visit to the game shop, but upon arriving he broke down again. He was scared of what would happen to him if he failed. Would he share Yugi and Joey's fate. He couldn't shake the paralysis he felt. He just sat there for two or three hours with the copy of Joey's Swamp Battle Guard clutched in between his thumb and index finger. That card, along with the his own copy of Lava Battle Guard, were a sign that him and Joey would always protect each other, no matter what.
He then saw Pegasus in his mind's eye. He saw his platinum hair and his distorted toon creatures that he duel monsters. They were laughing at him, laughing at his pain and misery. Tristan couldn't stand it any longer. He quickly rose to his feet with renewed vigor and determination. His rage took control over him and he swung his fist at the first thing he could, the large glass window that he seated under, shattering it to pieces. Tristan fell to one knee out of pyhsical and mental fatigue, tears welling in his eyes. Just then a elderly man pulled up to the shop in a cream colored white luxury car. He stepped and yelled at Tristan, "What have you done to my best friend's store?"
Chapter 1: What Happened?
"What have you done to my best friend's store?" the elderly gentleman asked. Tristan turned around and looked at the man. He was wearing a cream colored suit to match his luxury car with a red bow tie.
"What's it to ya, Pee Wee. This is none of your business. The owner has been in a coma for over a month," Tristan said.
"What do mean he is in a coma. If you know where he is then take me to see him or I shall have you arrested," the man said.
"Sure thing, we can take your car."
The man noticed the Swamp Battle Guard in Tristan's hand as Tristan climbed into the car through the window Dukes of Hazard style. The gentleman entered the car and started it. "You can call me Professor Hawkins and that is my grand daughter Rebecca." Tristan look over his shoulder at the sleeping girl in the back seat. He noticed that she was about the same age as Yugi. "She plays Duel Monsters as well, and she is quite good. We travel all over the world so she can compete in tournaments. A dueling prodigy they call her. She ranks behind only Seto Kaiba."
"Not any more," Tristan muttered under his breath.
"What's that you say?"
"I said my name is Tritan Taylor, and I don't play Duel Monsters."
"But you have one in your hands and you haven't let go of it since I saw you. Are you a collecter? I've quite the collection my self."
Tristan looked down at his knapsack and reminded himself of the contents. "You could say that," Tristan said as they pull up to a four way intersection. "Take a right and follow the signs."
They pulled into the hospital's parking garage and parked near an entrance. Rebecca woke up and wiped the sleep from her eyes. "Where are we Grandpa? I thought that man we were going to visit lived in a card shop."
"He does, but I've been informed from young Tristan here that he has been hospitilized."
Tristan led them up to Trusdale's room and offered them a seat. Rebecca started to sit down and noticed something on the bed side table. She walked over and stared with her mouth agape. "He destroyed it Grandpa!" she yelled. "The old fart ripped your Blue Eyes White Dragon in half! I don't believe it! With friends like him who needs enemies?"
"He didn't rip it, someone else did!" Tristan yelled obviously annoyed by Rebecca's behavior.
"Shut your pie hole you big lumux! Somebody who carries around a stupid card like Swamp Battle Guard wouldn't know the first thing about Duel Monsters."
Tristan ran over to Rebecca and picked her up by the shoulders and started shaking her like a rag doll. "He didn't rip the card you twirp. You don't even know the first thing about Yugi's Grandpa."
Prof. Hawkins stepped in between the two and sat them down on opposite sides of the room. "If he didn't destroy the card then who did?" Rebecca said.
"Seto Kaiba destroyed it so no one else would have one," Tristan snapped back. After a few minutes of silence Prof. Hawkins spoke up. "How did this happen? How did my friend get like this? How do you know Yugi?"
Tears started to well in Tristan's eyes as he started his story. "Maximillian Pegasus stole his soul away to lure Yugi to his Duelist Kingdom tournament. When Yugi went, my friend Joey followed him. Me and another friend, Tea, stowed away on the boat as well. Yugi and Joey fought their way up the ranks and entered the final four, but before the finals started Pegasus dueled Kaiba and won. He took Kaiba's soul just as he did Yugi's grandpa and Kaiba's little brother. Yugi ended up dueling Pegaus in the final round. Pegasus took the battle to the shadow realm and Yugi couldn't hold up under the mental strain of the dark world and his soul was taken. After Pegasus telling us what happened, he took Yugi's millenium puzzle and Joey charged at Pegasus. Pegasus used his millinium items and took Joey's soul as well. During all of this I just sat there. I let him get away. I was so scared. I let down my friends down. AhHhhhhhhhhhhhHhHHH!!!!!!" Tristan fell to his knees and started slamming the ground with his fists. Tears were pouring down his face and his shoulders were bobbing with sobs. "I was going to get my revenge......but then you showed up."
"Where are Yugi and Joey's bodies, then?" asked Prof. Hawkins.
"I don't know. Me and Tea were with them for a minute or so and then we both got up to find Pegasus. We found him just in time to see him lift off in a helicopter. We went back inside and Yugi, Joey, and the Kaiba Brothers' bodies were no where to be found. For all I know some of the Creep's henchmen took them to be his mindless slaves."
Prof. Hawkins picked Tristan up and looked him straight in the eye. "If it is revenge you want, then you are going to need the help only I can offer."
Chapter Two: Tough Decisions
The three left the hospital and headed towards Tristan’s house. “So tell me why we’re going to my house again,” Tristan said.
“Because I not going to train you in Duel Monsters without your parent’s consent, and besides, this will give a chance to say farewell. You won’t see them for a while.”
“Say Prof. Hawkins, why did you decide to help me?”
“Because no one hurts my friend and his family and gets away with it.”
It was only a matter of time for them to get to Tristan’s house. When they got there they noticed a jet black convertible in the driveway. “Who does that piece of work belong to?” Tristan wondered aloud. They got out of the car and approached the house. Tristan yelled as he opened the front door, “Mom, Dad, I’m home and I brought a couple of visitors with me.” Tristan’s mom came running through the house and hugged him and started to cry, “Tristan, I thought you were gone for good because of the note you left. How could you be so foolish? Anyway, there are two strange men here to see you and one is wearing a turban. How strange is that.” She dried her eyes and Tristan introduced her to the Hawkins. “Those men are in the den talking to your father.” All four of them walked into the den and saw Tristan’s dad talking to a black guy and a middle eastern man wearing a turban and a long light brown robe. Tristan’s dad spoke up, “Tristan, we need to talk.” They all took a seat and the man with the turban started talking, “Prof. Hawkins, it has been a long time. How many years has it been, three, four?”
“I do believe it has been five years if I am not mistaken, have you met my grand daughter Rebecca?”
“I have not but her reputation of being a great duelist precedes her.”
“Excuse me but who are you and what are doing in my house?” Tristan interrupted.
“My apologies, my name is Shadi and I’m here about your friend Yugi. It seems that the balance of the millennium items has been distorted and I think you can help me.”
“How can I help you? I don’t anything about the millennium items.”
Shadi stood and walked over to Tristan. He placed his millennium key on Tristan’s forehead. He was inside Tristan’s mind’s eye then. Tristan’s mind seemed unremarkable to Shadi considering how many strange minds he had entered over the years. All he saw was a single illuminated path to the millennium eye. Shadi started down the path to stand before the all Seeing Eye. His thoughts were then assaulted of images of the end of the Duelist Kingdom tournament and of Pegasus laughing along with his toon monsters and the millennium puzzle. Shadi had his answers. Shadi then exited Tristan’s thoughts and stood before the baffled onlookers, all except the black man. “What did you do to me?” Tristan stammered.
“I explored your thoughts for the answers I sought,” replied Shadi. “It seems that Pegasus has overstepped his bounds with his millennium item. We must stop him from getting any more powerful.”
“If anyone is going to defeat Pegasus it’s gonna be me,” Tristan announced.
“I admire your courage young Tristan, but you know nothing about Duel Monsters from what I can see, and you definetly don’t know enough to beat someone of Pegasus’s caliber. It is out of the question. Your thoughts all full of revenge and nothing more. You would only be adding another soul to Pegasus’s collection.”
“I’m not going to sit around when I know that that mad man has my friends trapped in the shadow realm. I’m going whether you like it or not.”
“You would only slow me down boy. You’re staying right where you are, and even if I allowed you to learn Duel Monsters and come with me it would take several months. I don’t have that kind of time.”
“Shadi, I believe I can settle this matter of Tristan’s training,” said Prof. Hawkins. “He can come with me back to my estate in London. I can teach him all there is to know about Duel Monsters there, if that is alright with Tristan’s parents of course.” Shadi stood silently with his eyes closed apparently in deep thought. “I will have to discuss this with my associate. Is there any where we can talk privately?” Shadi asked. “Upstairs in my room,” said Tristan. Shadi and the large black man exited the room and headed upstairs. “Well Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, this would be a good time to talk about the arrangements of this training. I assure you that he will keep up with his school studies in addition to his training. They don’t call me a professor for nothing.
“I don’t know. It is awfully sudden and this ‘shadow realm’ place sounds awfully dangerous. What if we never see Tristan again?” Tristan’s father said.
“Dad you have to let me do this. I’m going crazy just thinking about Pegasus. He has to be stopped,” Tristan said.
Rebecca wasn’t paying that much attention to the conversation. She was more concerned about Shadi and the other man. “Excuse me, where is your bathroom.” Tristan told her it was next to the stairs on the top floor. Rebecca exited the room and went up the stairs and walked right passed the bathroom to the closed door of Tristan’s room. She put her ear up against the crack in the door frame to listen in on the secret conversation.
“I just don’t he would be ready for something like this,” Shadi whispered.
“I think that he’ll be alright. Prof. Hawkins is a good teacher after all, just look at how well his grand daughter plays.” Rebecca couldn’t help but beam with pride at that statement. “She also said that we would need more allies if we are to succeed.”
“It is settled then. I will allow him to help us.” After the conversation had ended Rebecca half ran to the bathroom and flushed the toilet to make it seems as if she had been in there. She then charged down the stairs back into the den. “Did you find anything out about those two men, Rebecca?” Prof. Hawkins said with a sly grin on his face. “I don’t know what you are talking about Grandpa. I was in the bathroom,” Rebecca said with a blush expression on her face.
“Sure you were, for the three whole seconds it took you to flush the commode and then walk out. I know you are much too curious to pass up a chance to eavesdrop, Rebecca.” A few moments later Shadi and the large man rejoined the group. “We have decided to allow Tristan to join us in our investigation,” Shadi said. “What is your decision in this matter?” Everyone looked at Tristan’s parents then. “If he won’t be too much trouble to Mr. Hawkins, then we suppose it will be ok,” Mr. Taylor said. “Wonderful then, we can talk later outside. Say your goodbyes Tristan, we’ll be waiting,” Shadi said.
Tristan said goodbye to his parents and gathered up his knapsack and headed outside to meet with Shadi and the others. “I’m ready,” he said. Shadi spoke up and said, “Alright then, you have one month to prepare. That’s as much time as we can give you. I’ll be sending an associate of mine to talk with you before the month is over. Good luck and see you in a month. Oh and by the way, this is Agent Joule. He is with Interpol investigating the strange disappearances of Seto Kaiba and his brother Mokuba.” With that said, Shadi and Joule turned to get inside Joule’s car. Rebecca piped up and said, “I’m coming along journey too. Someone needs to keep their eye on Tristan so he doesn’t screw everything up.” “HEY!” Tristan yelled as Rebecca started laughing. Shadi turned to acknowledge the statement and nodded his approval as he climbed into the passenger’s seat.
As they were pulling out of the driveway, Shadi said, “Well this investigation just got more interesting, if not more annoying.” Joule only grinned.
Chapter 3: A New Threat
"Tristan, wake up!" Tristan grumbled as he wiped the sleep out of his eyes. "We're almost to the airport," Rebecca said. "How long was I out?" Tristan replied. "About an hour, look there's the airport now." "Well your journey is about to begin young Tristan, there is no turning back," Prof. Hawkins said somberly as he found a parking space at the rental dealership. Tristan climbed out of the car waited for the trunk hatch to open up. He thought about Tea then. He wondered if she was doing alright in New York. 'I should call her and tell her what's up,' he thought. "Hey Prof. Hawkins, I gonna look for a phone, there's someone I need to call." The three split up, Tristan went to find a pay phone while the professor and Rebecca turned in the rental car and looked for something to eat. Tristan found a phone, put the money in, and dialed Tea's number. He let it ring seven times and started to hang up until he heard someone answer. "Hey Tea! This is Tristan. How's New York?"
"I'm not Tea, but I'll tell you what. If you abandon your little quest for revenge, I just might return her safe and sound to her little dance school," the mysterious voice answered back.
"Who are you and what have you done to Tea? I swear I'll break your neck if I ever find out you've hurt her!"
"Hmmmm. It appears Tea has run out of minutes on her cell phone. See you later if you’re up to that threat of yours." "Tristan don't do it, it's a trap! Eeeeeeeeek." *Click*
"TEA! TEA!" Tristan slammed the receiver down and punched the phone terminal almost dislodging the entire thing from the floor. Tristan looked up in his raged to an entire terminal of onlookers. A few moments of silence passed and then everyone went back to their business. The Hawkins saw the entire spectacle and rushed over to Tristan to see what was the matter. "They kidnapped Tea," Tristan grumbled through clinched teeth. "What's even stranger is that they were waiting for my call as if they knew it was going to happen. The guy who answered said that if I wanted Tea to be safe, then I would have to discontinue my journey. Just before I hung up I heard Tea scream that it was a trap." "Then I suggest we continue," Prof. Hawkins said, "if we don't then how do we even know they will keep their word." The three of them left to catch their flight, but what they didn't know was that their every move was being watched by a man in a black cloak. He had "persuaded" the security officer in charge of watching the security cameras to let him in to watch some television. "I guess getting Mr. Tristan to continue on the journey was a little too easy. Any doubts he had of quitting now have been eliminated"
The plane had just finished its ascent when Prof. Hawkins started talking, "Alright Tristan, since we only have a month to turn a minnow into a shark, I suggest we get started. I’m going to test you on certain aspects of the game. First question, what are the three basic types of Duel Monster cards?”
“That’s easy: Monsters, Traps, and Magic cards,” Tristan stated with confidence.
“Yes and no. You see, Pegasus has changed the rulings. Magic cards are now called Spell cards. But don’t worry about that yet. Now what are the different sub-categories of the basic cards?”
“Uhhhhh, Normal monsters and Effect monsters and uhhhhhh…”
“That’s what I thought. Spell cards can be broken down into normal, quick-play, field, equip, and continuous spells. Traps can be broken down into normal, continuous, and counter traps. I guess since you didn’t know all of those categories you wouldn’t know the different types of monsters. This might take awhile.” The rest of the flight to London was Tristan learning the basics to Duel Monsters. After the plane had landed, Tristan stepped out of the plane rubbing his head and complaining that he had a headache. “Quit your whining you big baby. I’ve know how to play Duel Monsters since I was seven and I never complained that much,”
Rebecca teased. Rebecca suddenly stopped dead in her tracks when she saw a hooded man in a dark robe standing in there path. “I thought we told you not to continue your journey, I guess I’ll just have to teach you a lesson in respect.” The three stared at the man for a moment. “I’ll take this out guy Grandpa, and besides, Tristan doesn’t even know how to even draw a card yet,” Rebecca said with a sly grin on her face. “I can so!” Tristan yelled back. “What’s wrong Tristan? You need a little girl to fight your battles for you?” the hooded man said. “Who are you calling little,” Rebecca snapped. “Give me my duel disk Grandpa.” Prof. Hawkins opened up the suitcase he was carrying and produced an angular machine. “What is that?” Tristan asked. “It’s an updated hologram duel projector that was being made by Kaiba Corp. Industrial Illusions bought the rights to it and have been making them ever since,” the professor answered. Rebecca placed her deck into the deck slot and flipped the projector on. Hologram projectors flew out the ends of the duel disk and the lifepoint counter raised to 4000. The hooded man did the same with his own duel disk. By this time a large crowd had formed around the four, and even a few of Rebecca’s fans had noticed her and had started cheering for her. “You can go first you hooded freak,” Rebecca said threateningly. The hooded man drew his starting hand and drew for his turn. ‘Perfect,’ he thought, ‘it is almost completed’. “I summon one monster face down and end my turn” “Pay attention to how Rebecca plays Tristan, you can learn a lot from her,” Prof. Hawkins said. Tristan watched as Rebecca drew for her turn. “I’ll set one spell or trap card and summon D.D. Warrior Lady in attack mode.” A vertical card materialized in front of Rebecca. Then a sword cut through the air, opening a door way to a different dimension. Out stepped a woman in black leather holding the aforementioned sword. “I’ll attack your facedown monster with D.D. Warrior Lady.” The lady charged at the facedown card and slashed right through it. The hologram produced a large blue bear and then shattered to pieces. Rebecca’s fans started to cheer wildly. “You just destroyed my Mother Grizzly and now I get to search my deck for a water monster with 1500 attack or less and special summon it to the field. I think I’ll choose Neo Aqua Madoor in attack mode.” In place of the bear a masked man with large fingernails rose up out of a tidal wave and stood ready to attack. ‘What could he be up to? His monster doesn’t stand a chance against my lady attack wise. I’ll just have to wait and see.’ “I’ll end my turn.”
“Hey why don’t you show us your ugly face,” a random person from the crowd yelled.
“Gladly,” the hooded man said as he whipped off his hood, “You may call me Rare Hunter.” Rare Hunter drew his next card and set it in one of his magic and trap card zones. “I’ll switch my madoor to defense mode and it will be your turn.” Rebecca drew her next card and smiled. “I play confiscation; this card lets me look at your hand and discard one of your cards at the cost of 1000 of my lifepoints.” Rare Hunter placed his card in a special compartment, and then the cards materialized in front of Rebecca. Tristan stared in disbelief as he saw some cards he had not seen in a while. Rare Hunter had a Stone Statue of the Aztecs, Card Destruction, Left arm of the Forbidden One, Right arm of the Forbidden One, and Left Leg of the Forbidden One in his hand. “Exodia,” Tristan gasped. Rebecca shrugged it off as fools play and said, “I’ll just get rid of your right arm and then I won’t have to worry about Exodia any more.” Rare Hunter discarded his right arm and Rebecca continued with her turn.
Rebecca/3000 Rare Hunter/4000
“I’ll now play fissure. This card destroys the monster with the lowest attack on your side of the field.” A large rift appeared under Rare Hunter’s madoor and swallowed it whole. Once it closed up Rebecca continued. “I summon D.D. Assailant in attack mode.” Another sword cut through the air and opened another portal and out stepped a man with a large sword carried across his shoulder. “Now both of my warriors will attack you directly.” Both warriors simultaneously charged Rare Hunter and slashed him in the chest in an X shaped pattern.
Rebecca/3000 Rare Hunter/800
Rare Hunter fell to his back from the attack and rose slowly to his feet. “Good move little girl but I’m afraid that it is all over for you,” Rare Hunter said with a confident look on his face. Rare Hunter drew his next card. “I activate Card Destruction. This card destroys both of our hands and makes us draw the same amount of cards we had.”
“You must be a whole new kind of stupid to destroy two pieces of Exodia like that. Oh well, no skin of my back.” They both discarded their hands and drew. Rare Hunter started to laugh hysterically. “What are you laughing at? You have lost three pieces of Exodia already; you can’t possibly win.”
“Ignorant girl, did you already forget about my facedown card. Why don’t I show it to you? It’s called Backup Soldier. It lets me return my three pieces of Exodia back to my hand and it just so happens that I drew the last two pieces due to Card Destruction.” Rare Hunter cleared his disk and placed the pieces of Exodia in the open slots. The crowd gasped with horror as a large star shaped symbol drew itself in the sky. Rebecca stood there shaking all over as the Forbidden One stepped out of his magical prison. Rare Hunter yelled out with mounting enthusiasm, “EXODIA! OBLITERATE!” Exodia’s right hand glowed with energy as it reared back to unleash its devastating power. Rebecca was then engulfed by a see of bright light. When the match was over, Rebecca dropped to her knees in defeat. “I lost,” she whimpered. “Yes you did,” said Rare Hunter while wearing his trademark grin, “and because you lost you’ll now have to come with me.” Just then a dozen similar dressed men rushed through the crowd to grab her. “Oh no you don’t!” exclaimed Tristan. He rushed at one of the hooded figures and put a right hook into the side of his face, sending the man to retreat off into the shadows. Tristan sent another sprawling to the floor with a low sweeping kick. Then they were on him. Four of the men charged Tristan all at once, each taking their turn punching and kicking Tristan till he slumped to the floor. Tristan stood up on wobbly legs while they each retreated a few steps to fully surround him. Then they rushed him again, two swinging high while the other two went low. They all hit Tristan at once and sent him for two complete loops. Tristan then lay on the terminal floor very still. While all of this was going on, Rare Hunter rushed over and grabbed Rebecca while the rest of the henchmen took to crowd control. “Help me Grandpa!” Rebecca screamed. “I’m coming Rebecca,” the professor cried out, but he was soon buckled over from a kick to the stomach from Rare Hunter. Rare Hunter then walked over Tristan. “Where’s your threat now tough guy?” Rare Hunter asked as he kicked Tristan hard in the side. Tristan let out a pitiful groan as he lay there.
Rare Hunter walked to the center of the circle where the duel took place and threw down a smoke grenade he produced from his cloak. When the smoke had cleared, they were gone. All that was left was the professor hovering over Tristan’s battered body and the hundred or so baffled onlookers.
Chapter 4: The Sands are Shifting
Shadi and Joule pulled out of Tristan’s driveway and headed for the airport. “Why exactly are we going to the airport so soon? Shouldn’t we look for the whereabouts of the Kaiba Brothers here in Domino?” Joule asked.
“The Kaiba Brothers are no longer in Domino, of this I am sure. If I am to guess their location, it should be with Pegasus. It would seem that he used the power of the millennium eye to steal their souls away. In light of recent events, I’d say he even has Yugi Muto’s millennium puzzle. The delicate balance of the millennium items has shifted. We must go to Egypt to consult Ishizu Ishtar again. She might have some more answers for us.” The two got to the airport and lifted off without a hitch, they didn’t speak anymore until they landed in Egypt. As they left the airport to go to Ishizu’s, Shadi felt a chill run up his spine. “I think we are being followed, Agent Joule,” Shadi said with an ominous tone in his voice. “Did it take you that long to figure it out? Someone has been trailing us since we lifted off from Domino.” The two left from the airport and headed for Ishizu’s house as fast as they could. It wasn’t long until they noticed half dozen motorcycles with men in black cloaks riding them. “They are rare hunters, the personal foot soldiers of Ishizu’s brother Marik. Things have just gotten more serious, you must hurry Agent Joule!” Shadi said as he was getting more excited. “Hold on tight then,” Agent Joule said as he shifted gears. The chase continued for several minutes, Joule relentlessly trying to shake them through alley ways and one way streets. Shadi looked up out of the corner of his eye and notice that some of the rare hunters were even riding on the rooftops. Joule took time to notice the fuel gauge dropping dangerously low and stated somberly, “Crappy foreign sport cars.” Joule whipped out his cell phone and started barking out what sounded like orders and coordinates. They had finally gotten out of Cairo’s busy streets and into the more open roads where Joule could more fully push the car to its top speed, but the rare hunters were still hot on their trail. Ishizu’s house was coming into view. “Finally,” Joule and Shadi sighed with relief simultaneously.
Ishizu’s house was no run down shack, it was a mansion. It had a small fountain in the front, a large dome in the center, and it covered a few acres of land. Joule thundered the sports car into the circular driveway. Shadi and Joule exited the car like two bats out of torment. Joule lobbed the keys to a befuddled rare hunter and said, “Take it, its yours!” “Ishizu has body guards of her own, we should be safe here,” Shadi huffed as the two of them sprinted up the stairs to the front door. Joule didn’t bother stopping to open the door and just ran straight through it. Upon entering the mansion the pair noticed what appeared to be a rare hunter in the middle of the hall. The figure started clapping, “Bravo Shadi but I’m afraid you are to late to talk to my sister. You see, she is not here. She just left you a note along with this.” The figure produced the millennium necklace from under the folds of his cloak.
“Marik, that doesn’t belong to you. Give it to me at once,” Shadi demanded.
“Shadi, you remembered me. How thoughtful of you. As you can see I have built up quite the army of followers thanks to the millennium rod you gave me.” After Marik had finished the rare hunters started to file into the mansion.
“Giving you that millennium item was the biggest mistake of my life. I thought you could control the evil that it possessed but I was wrong.”
“I'm touched that you care so much about me, Shadi, really I am, but now I must ask that you had over your two millennium items to me now.” The rare hunters started closing in on the pair. Shadi and Joule found themselves back to back within a matter of seconds. Just then gunfire from a helicopter cut through the dome roof of the mansion. Two men appeared over the edge and started to spray gunfire. The rare hunters dispersed and Joule took the diversion as a chance to take away the millennium necklace from Marik. Marik noticed Joule and tried to stab him with the millennium rod. Joule did a barrel roll to the side and quickly recovered and grabbed Marik’s rod free hand. Marik sent a straight kick into Joule’s chest to free his hand and then made a run for it. Joule gathered his senses and ran to board the copter. The helicopter had taken already taken off and dropped a ladder. Joule leaped and grabbed onto the ladder and started to climb. Several rare hunters had started to pursue, but they were stopped by Marik, “Let them go, we have my sister’s location. We can get there before they can if we hurry.” As soon as Joule climbed into the copter Shadi asked him, “Did you get the necklace?”
“No, but I did get this.” Joule pulled out a piece of paper containing a note and strange coordinates. “Should we head for the location in the note?” Joule asked. Shadi quietly outstretched his hand like he holding something. He started to mumble and chant and after a few moments a golden balance scale had appeared in his hand. “This shall tell us what the note really says,” Shadi said. Joule placed the note on the floor of the helicopter and Shadi placed his millennium scale on top of it. The eye in the middle of the scale let out a yellow light and started to scan the note. As the light scanned over the note, Shadi read what what the scale showed him, “Shadi, this is Ishizu. I’ve had a disturbing revelation. Please come to the following location. This is terribly urgent please come as quickly as possible.” Joule wrote down the real note as Shadi had read it and showed the pilot the coordinates. “I know where this is. It is the Valley of the Kings,” the pilot said.
“Well get us there as fast as this bird can fly,” Joule ordered. “Yes sir.” “Say Shadi, I wonder where these original coordinates lead?” Joule asked looking down at the original note. “Your guess is as good as mine,” Shadi replied as the helicopter thundered off towards the Valley of the Kings.
“Can’t this piece of junk go any faster,” Marik said to his right hand man, Odion. “Sir we do not need to get pulled over, that would only slow us down even more,” replied the tattooed man matter-of-factly. Just then Marik received a telepathic message from one of his subordinates. “Master Marik, you are not going to like this,” the rare hunter said telepathically, “I think your coordinates were wrong Master.”
“What do you mean my coordinates were wrong? They were on…the…” Marik’s telepathic words trailed off as car he was riding in pulled into the location indicated on the original note. Marik opened his door and stepped out with a scowl on his face. “The Dueling Diner!” Marik had arrived at the newly opened Cairo Dueling Diner, a new themed restaurant chain started by Pegasus to make Duel Monsters into an even more house hold name. Marik began yelling at the top of his lungs in frustration. He was then tackled by a mob of cartoon goblins with clubs and armor who wanted nothing more than to cheer grumpy ole Marik up.
Shadi and Joule had finally made to the Valleys of Kings. When they had got there they saw Ishizu standing at the entrance of the tombs. “Shadi, I was afraid you weren’t going to find my note,” Ishizu said with some concern.
“We found your note alright, in the hands of your brother, along with the millennium necklace,” said Joule. “Why would you leave your millennium item behind? Now Marik has two. He gets stronger while we get weaker.”
“Because, Agent Joule, I had a vision that showed my brother with it. I do not want to alter the future. It is not my place to. It is up to someone who does not control the necklace to change the future. The necklace is not important, but what I have seen is. You see, in the court of the Great Pharaoh, there was mighty sorcerer. This sorcerer was bent on seizing the Pharaoh’s power, but could not due to the millennium items. So he conjured up powerful magic from the shadow realm to create the Sands of Fate. The Sands of Fate are group of weapons that were created to challenge the power of the millennium items. The sorcerer gave these powerful weapons to a group of his most powerful enforcers, who then became known as the Soldiers of Fate. The Pharaoh had sensed what was going on and set out to defeat these warriors. He hired a powerful thief to steal the Winds of Fate. The thief was successful in taking of one of the items, but the Pharaoh sensed deception in the heart of the thief and had his evil soul banished to the shadow realm. The Pharaoh then sent his new power onto the now weakened Soldiers of Fate, and one by one who took their weapons and sealed them away with their bodies. I have seen where they are buried, and it is here in the Valley of Kings. Using the Winds of Fate you could stop my brother and whoever would try to gather all the millennium items for themselves.” After Ishizu had finished she took Shadi and Joule into the bowels of the tombs. They searched for close to an hour to find the location of the Tomb of Fate. They finally arrived at a wall of Egyptian hieroglyphics with a figure that looked strangely familiar. “Is this the powerful sorcerer who challenged the Pharaoh for his power?” Joule asked, “He looks exactly like Seto Kaiba!” It was true, the figure looked exactly like Seto Kaiba. Ishizu instructed Shadi to place the millennium key up to the eye of the figure. As he did this, an outline of light surrounded a large panel of hieroglyphics and down through the center. The two halves split apart and revealed a large tomb with five sarcophaguses lining the wall. “We are here,” Ishizu said, “remove each of the outer sarcophaguses.” Shadi and Joule went to one end of the row of coffins and started removing the outer shells. Joule came to one covering whose picture looked strangely familiar, but shrugged it off as a coincidence. When they were finished they saw each of the Sands of Fate in their entire splendor. Ishizu then took a burlap sack and began to gather up all of them. She had placed the first three inside the bag and stared at the last two for a moment. She moved over to the last one, a large thick bracelet about six inches long, and picked it up. She looked down at the outer sarcophagus of that coffin and also saw a familiar figure on it. She turned and looked at Joule and looked down at the covering and then back to Joule again. “Put this on,” she said with a smile as she lobbed the bracelet over to Joule. Joule caught it and rolled up his right sleeve. He slid it on until it caught on the middle portion of his forearm. Joule was immediately engulfed with electricity. He yelled in protest until he fell to his knees and finally to his face. The electricity had dissipated, and when Joule came to a few seconds later, a spirit rose up from bracelet’s coffin. The spirit looked like a spitting image of Joule, although it had on Egyptian clothing and long hair down his back. Its robe hung off the left shoulder and exposed the right shoulder along with the spirits athletic muscles. It didn’t wear any shades either, of course. “My name is Saraka, guardian of the Surge Bangle. You have awoken its powers and you’re life force is now bound to it. If it leaves you, you will die. You now hold the power to dispel shadow realm itself. Y L T L N E T.” After Saraka had spoken, he laid himself down to rest in his coffin, his spirit at ease.
Joule picked himself up off the ground and dusted himself off. He looked down at his right arm and the golden bracelet that he wore. The bangle spit a few bolts of electricity out just to show Joule that its power was still real. Shadi looked across the room over at sarcophagus lid that had his own appearance etched on it. He thought he had enough problems before.
Marik was still fuming over his sister’s trickery, and with no clues as to her whereabouts, he was stuck contemplating his next move. He had already sent Rare Hunter to New York City the day before Shadi showed up to speak with Ishizu the second time and he was awaiting word from him. He had seen the future and he could not allow this Professor Hawkins character to get a foot hold on him. “Master Marik,” Marik heard a voice speak to him.
“What is it?” Marik said sounding annoyed.
“I have found the girl you asked me to capture. What should I do now?”
“Go to London and await this Professor Hawkins there. Capture the little girl he is traveling with and make sure he doesn’t follow you.”
“As you wish, Master Marik,” Rare Hunter obediently replied.
Marik smiled as he cut off the telepathic link between himself and Rare Hunter. ‘Shadi won’t be able to stop me now. I’m too far ahead of him.’ He laughed evilly as he sought out his next target on his yacht.
