I just got back from a weekend in San Francisco.
It was pretty exciting.
I got to dance in two Obon Matsuri.
Obon is a Buddhist holiday celebrated in Japan which is sometimes compared to Day of the Dead for Latinos. The significance of dancing is symbolic to a Buddhist named Mogallana dancing for joy when he realized his mother could be saved from one of the hell she was suffering in, I believe...(Don't quote me on it, I hear it every year at Obon Service, but I was in Japan when they had it this year, so I don't remember all of the specifics).
Has anyone else ever been to an Obon ?
