Alright I'm just putting this out there because the shining and the exorcist are my two favorite horror movies of all time, now I want your opinion on which you like better and why? heart

Shining, because I didn't find the exorcist scary at all, its more in your head religion kind of thing like emily rose.
The shinning has nicholson which makes it better by default smile

In terms of what? Quality? Scares? Well either way the Shining comes out on top in anything IMO. The Exorcist just lost most of its appeal through being overratted. Its good don't get me wrong, its just a huge let down from what I was expecting. Then again I haven't seen it since my 12th birthday party so I may need to give it another chance. sweatdrop
On the other hand I love the Shining the movie and novel. I could pin point a bunch of things but i'll just say: Jack Nicholson.

The Shining, i love that movie...jack nicholson=crazy actor...i love his acting in just about any role....i think him being insane is the best roles he has doen though

The Shining never ever scared me. I don't know why people think it's so scary, lol.
On the other hand, I loved the Exorcist.
I'm more about supernatural thrillers and what not. I like seeing the creepy shadows go around the corner and with supernatural you always have to think what if something is behind me and is going to hurt me or something. That always scares me. Where as if there was a person behind me I'm more likely to know it. Don't know if I make sense here, but I defintely like the Exoricst better.

I like Exorcist better. I would say the Shining but the book was better than the movie. The shinning was suppose to be about the boy and not the father but in the first shinning movie they made it more about the father than they did the boy. Dont get me wrong I love the shining I just dont like it when they completly alter a movie from the book.

My mother said I asn't aloud to see the excorcist until I was 16. I waited for five years. then when I turned 16 I was dissapointed. I still liked it, but I thought, 'so why did I wait five years to watch this?' I don't know, I think the Shining is better. But I still like them both. 3nodding

These two movies have two entirely different forms of terror. The Shining demonstrates paranoia, insanity, claustrophobia, and of course cabin fever. The Exorcist is about a girl who is taken over involuntarily by a demon and needs it extracted. Although both vital characters are taken over by a monster, Jack's [The Shining] monster is within and has just been dormant for years [which is implied in both the movie and the novel]. In the Exorcist, the monster literally takes over this girl with no connection to her aside from her tangible form.
To really break this down, the two causes of fear from this movie are paranoia about a family member attacking and fear of the supernatural. Both are scary in their own way, the Exorcist for its special effects and The Shining for the real underlying fear.

Shining I wasnt so thrilled about. It was the only horror movie I couldnt get into.
Unlike the Exorcist. The exorcist scared the HELL Outta me!!!!! I found it an awesome movie though!!!! I loved it when the girl walked backwards down the stairs. I found it awesome and creepy at the same time!!
