Introduction to TAROT cards: Basic Information
Basic Info About Tarot
Tarot desk today consist of 78 Cards

THE MAJOR ARCANA (keys)
22 Cards
The major arcana cards repesent major lessons to be mastered on the road of life, the cards symbollize the range of human life-Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Spitural(PIES)

The Cards:
The Fool; The Magician; The High Priestess ; The Empress; The Emperor; The Hierophant; The Lovers; The Chariot; Strength; The Hermit; Wheel of Fortune; Justice; The Hanged Man; Death; Temperance; The Devil; The Tower; The Star; The Moon; The Sun; Judgement and The World.

MINOR ARCANA (pips)
56 cards
The minor arana is often associated with the four classical elements; Wands with fire, Cups with water, Swords with air, and Coins with earth. Swords and Wands are often switched.

The Cards:

Ten cards numbered from Ace to 10 in four different suits; traditionally batons (wands), cups, swords and coins (pentacles) along with Four court cards (page, knight, queen, and king) in the same four suits

Which means Ace through 10 + page, knight, queen, and king for one suit(Batons, Cups, Swords and Coins)

BECOMING ONE WITH YOUR CARDS

Step one:
Buy/Make tarot cards

Step two (if not included in step one):
Buy a book

Step three:
Get to know you cards!
3-Explination-3
You must get to know your cards. The book can help you but it will not allow you to fully know the cards them selves. You need to trust your intuition and only use the book after you try to figure out what each card mean. The sooner you know what each card means/stands for, you can read them for yourself.

Step four:
Shuffling! Keep shuffling until your mind is completely clear, keep shuffling, now shuffle them in this order “Fool through the World, followed by each of the suits, from Ace through Ten, then Page, Knight, Queen and King”
This makes you a part of the deck.

STOP shuffling

Time To Choose from Posts 3–9!

Basic Tarot Meaning

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

Card-a-Day Method

This method not only allows you to understand the cards more, it also allows you to see your energy for that day.

Shuffle, the deck as you will always do, and then order the cards, the way I instructed to do in the post 1.
I recommend spanning the cards out; to pick one that draws you to it in a good way, or you can just draw it randomly from the deck, it is up to you.

A little advanced:
If you’d like to this method the night before (to see that the next day will look like) You must specifically hold the thought in your mind that you want the card to represent the day to come.

Which ever way you choose, the card is now in front of you, look at it, notice the colors, and how you react to them. Also notice way the card looks, does the card bring any words to mind.

I highly recomend recording all of your thoughts and reactions in a journal. It is a good way to not only keep track of your energy levels, but also a good way of keeping track of your progress.

If you are doing this method as a way of studying the cards, I also recomend writing your first thoughts and ideas along with date in a single colour, use the book you bought along with the cards to look it up define what you believe is necessary in a second and I'd review them both a few days later and write your thoughts along with the date you reviewed in a final colour.

The colours don't need to symbolise anything, they are just used with orgination.

Constellations Method:

Pretty much this is a math type method of seperation. This means that all cards carry the same primary numbers (1 though 9). For the number four, take the number four card from each of the suits. Example the Emperor (which carries the number four), and Death (which carries the number thirteen, and reduces to the number four (1+3=4).

This is the only math you will do for this method
----thank goodness----

For this method take all of the same numbered cards out of the deck and line them up in front of you. Ask your self questions about them, like what draws you to a certien group of cards, what makes you like this group instead of the other group, does the colours in the group make you feel happy, or sad? Do the cards themself have the same sort of environments, what makes them the same or different.

Do you notice that each of the cards carry the same sort of energy, though they are expressed differently? Make sure you take notes on your feelings about each groups of cards and your first impressions.

This method will help you get a feeling across during a reading, it also helps the reading go a bit easier. It also gets you to feel the emotion of the group of cards and not just individual.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 08, 2006 1:22 pm

Journaling:

This a way to keep track of what you learn and what know.

Keeping seperate journals for readings, other methods and decks is also good idea.

You can keep the journal online, in a notebook, on tape(record and what not)

In an writen version.... you can do like in my suggestion on the card-a-day method first impressions in one colour, other information in a second, and check back a day later your reactions in a third.

You can add artwork if you like to make the entries more appealing to yourself or anyone who you might let read it.

Decorate the journal anyway you like, it is your journal.

Card Resolution Method:

Go through your deck, and find cards that you see as being difficult. Study those cards, and note why you find them difficult. Then go back through the deck, and find one or more cards that bring resolution to the difficult cards. This is a fun game to play, and only takes a few minutes at a time to work through the cards.

What you have developed is an excellent tool for use in readings - when a difficult card comes up, and you want to help the Seeker bring resolution to that issue, you have the option of having them go through the deck and pick a card that they think would help them, or you can suggest a card that will counteract the energies of the more difficult cards

Meditation Method:

This method allows us to become un bourdoned by the should and shouldn'ts of everyday maddness.

You must find a quite place to get yourself in the right mindframe. Somewhere you enjoy being without a lot of noise or interuptions.

Take the card you wish to meditate with and place it in front of you.
aeclectic.net
Take three deep breaths. Breathe in slowly and fully, seeing yourself filled with white light. As you slowly breathe out, feel all of your cares leaving you.

Focus your attention to the card, allow yourself to become part of the card. Allow whatever feelings the card brings you to come over you. When you are ready to get away from the feelin, slowly "awaken" yourself and allow somtime to return to the awoke world.

aeclectic.net
Meditation can be done to get to know a card, or can be used with a specific card to obtain answers into specific life issues. All of the cards in the deck can be used: the Major Arcana providing spiritual advice, the Minor Arcana showing actions that can be taken in everyday life. Court Cards can be used if the situation revolves around a specific individual, or if you wish to get to know a certain part of yourself better (or if you wish to integrate parts of yourself)

Will the cards tell my future?:
No, tarot offers possibilities for the future, based on the present.

Can the Tarot tell me "when" something will happen?:
Yes and no, it depends on what type of spread you have and on the reader.

Here is another card that people fear when they see it. Certainly, it's not one of the pleasant cards, but it basically means some big change may be coming about that you probably don't want to deal with.

What is the difference between all the spreads?:
People prefer different spreads for different situations, different issues. Some are used for simplier things, others are used for more complex, harder issues.

What does it mean when a card is "reversed"?:
It means it's upsde down pretty much.

DECK RELATED QUESTIONS:

For an Absolute Begginer, which deck would you recomend?:
