Before I get started I have but one request for those of you who dislike the series for their resemblance to LOTR and other such stories. Please take care of how you voice your opinions of the series or don't voice them at all. Also, I will not tolerate people telling those who do not like the series to take a hike. I want this to be a place of discussion which means hearing all sides, including both the positives and negatives
[edit] Try to watch your spelling with certain words from the books but don't worry too much about the special caracters with accents and dots

I am in the middle of reading Eldest at the moment and I recently heard that the last installment was to have a green cover with a green dragon facing the same direction that Saphira had on the cover of Eragon.
Bearing this in mind, I would like you to see 2 quotes from Eldest.
page 449, Eldest He even stepped upon a sharp object that, when he bent to examine it, proved to be a fragment of a gree dragon egg
page 557, Eldest As the sun began to it's descent, he noticed a cluster of mountains in the distant east and knew he beheld Du Fells Nangoroth, where the wild dragons had gone to mate, to raise their young, and eventually to die.

Please note that the first quote took place while they were in Du Weldenvarden and second during their flight over the Hadarac desert on route to Surda. It struck me as odd that the next dragon to appear would be green and by chance it is mentioned that Eragon steps on a green dragon egg (the eggs were often the same color as the dragon inside). I had a discussion about this with my father and we figured it could be nothing or a dragon egg had been hidden away by the elves during the fall and they dared not share it with the rest of Alageasia for fear another human such as Galbotorix would appear as it's rider. The only reason Saphira's egg was to be shared was because it was Brom and the Varden who rescued her so elves could not hide her.

People say that they don't like the LotR similarity, but that's what I like about it. LotR was good, but I like Eragon and Eldest better. It's like LotR except without the boring bits.
(Sorry if you like LotR, but I frankly thought alot of it was boring)
As to green dragon egg- He wouldn't have written it in if it didn't mean something. He did it so it appears like something insignificant, just a passing glance at the ground, but it will come into play later. Otherwise, it serves no purpose and could be cut out to reduce the word count.

Yes a book should have detail so that the characters and the world become real, but LOTR over did things a little bit.
As for the green Dragon egg, I agree. It's too much of a coincidence to ignore. It could be a false lead but why be so specific in such an insignificant way. Like I said before, no one who re-reads the books in a couple a weeks is going to think about it because the book cover information will be tucked away in a dark corner of their mind.

*note name* I love Inheritance. I completely agree with the green dragon egg..... maybe it is a fake, and the other egg that Galbatorix has is a green egg... I also think that Eragon and Nasuada will end up together. Don't ask me why. But i think it is more than a coincidence that Eragon was "overwhelmed by their friendship" the other being Arya who he knew would not love him.

I'm in the middle of Eldest right now. To be honest, I have to say I prefer LotR hands down, but I do like the Inheritance Trilogy. I love the depth in Lord of the Rings and while the reading may be slow at times it's much easier for me to feel as if I was in Middle Earth because of all the detail. I would be more inclined to praise Eragon if it wasn't plagiarist-ic, but then it is very difficult to write any fantasy book now without it seeming to take elements from other books. But let me re-iterate, I enjoy reading the books. Occasionally I feel that Paolini gets caught up in the epic-ness of the book, but overall I feel that for his age he did an amazing job. I feel he especially handled the politics in the series well. After seeing the movie, which I personally feel is terrible, I realized the books were better than I had previously thought.

Well, I do still like LoTR, and that won't change. But, I liked Inheritance too, and I know that all things have to be mixed up a little bit here and there. Well, the green egg could be what that last dragon egg Galbatorix has is.
Now, I had a thought. In the first book, in Angela's fortelling, all I seem to remember her saying was that Eragon would have an epic romance, and she seemed to take it as a good thing. Now, was that all she said, that it would be epic? Because if so, it could be epic in a negative sense, as in unrequited love.

I read Eragon and wasn't all that impressed. But I might give Eldest a go if I have nothing better to read.

I've read the books a couple of times now, and must say, I enjoy them, and am waiting for book 3 (what's it's name anyways?) if for no other reason then to finish the series.
but yes, i think he did a great job for his age, and personally just wished i didn't have to wait for authors to write their books.
P.s. some authors write really quickly, but the authors i read release like 1 book every 2 or 3 years... it gets pretty boring.

As my memory of both books is a little sketchy (I read them about a year or more ago), I can't really say anything specific. But from the general feel of the books, I really liked it. People too often portray dragons as either beasts with no minds, silly little wizards with tails and scales that breathe fire, or creatures limited to breathing fire, flying, and having a mental link with their riders. I thought that concept was very good, especially because he says that the dragons existed before they were bonded with elves and humans, which few other series that I know of ever did. I have never read LOTR, so I am unable comment on that, but I think that, considering his age, Paolini did a pretty good job on the trilogy (so far).
I've also heard that there is supposed to be a green dragon on the front of the third book, and I think it is reasonable. If you go through all the colors of the rainbow, blue, red, and, green are the best choices for dragons. After all, purple is weird, yellow and orange are too close to red (which was already done), pink is girly, black was already done for Galbatorix's dragon, white would be too much of a cliche(sp?) since the bad dragon is the opposite (black), brown is sort of dirty, and gray would seem unhealthy. Green is the only logical color left.
