The rumor is about Laurell K. Hamiltons Fae series. That her next book is going to be her last for that series. I kind of feel cheat if it's true.

I all so bought her frist in her new series... what was it again.... Death of a DarkLord. I hope it's good. ^^

I'm positive that Mistral's Kiss will not be the last Merry Gentry novel, because she mentioned further books having titles with the men's names in them.

She does have a definite end planned for Merry, though.

And Death of a Darklord is completely unlike either Anita or Merry. REALLY different.

That sounds good I would like to see an ending for one of her current series, by the way were did you get this information?

My information comes from LKH's remarks at her signings of Incubus Dreams and Danse Macabre. The Death of a Darklord bit comes from my reading of the book.

How was The Death of a Darklord? Today, I literally had a copy in hand and was about to buy it, but it didn't seem up to the standards of MG and the earlier AB:VH. Was it worth the ten bucks?

Well... it really depends on your personal tastes in reading.

It is a perfect example of a D&D book. So, if you've played Ravenloft and you like that genre, it's a really interesting book.

However, if you're looking for something in the same style as MG or AB:VH, I would advise against it. Honestly, I wouldn't have recognized it as the work of LKH.

The plot is interesting, and the characters are unusual. Unfortunately, it's very much the first in a series, so you don't get a resolution so much as a setup of further problems. The characters definitely aren't as developed as in Anita, maybe because it's such a short book and focuses on multiple characters PoVs.

There is a female protagonist, but she's very different from Anita and Merry. She's younger and less... I don't know if mature is the right word, but definitely less jaded.

The book isn't my favorite, and I've read several D&D style books. Perhaps if I'd played Ravenloft I would have enjoyed it more.

My friend e-mailed LK and got this back:

Hi Kathryn! Sorry, not Laurell. She is technophobic. But I will pass your letter on to her.

The next Anita is The Harlequin. It will debut sometime next year. I just don't know when yet.

As to other vampires. Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series, MaryJanice Davidson's Undead series. Come spring Talia Gryphon's first novel will be out and it is really good. You might also enjoy some of PN Elrod's vampire books.

Hope that helps.

Yea more Anita!!!!!!

Ooh, I'm in love with the name!

But is that the next novel or the Stephen and Gregory novella?

HockeyGirl, thanks for the summary. I'm not really a fan of D&D books, so it's good that I saved my moola.

But about The Harlequin.... actually, the trend I noticed happened earlier (with Cerulean Sins, I think) but that just got me to thinking. Is anyone else dissapointed that she stopped using locations as the titles? I mean, she obviously got back on it with Danse Macabre, but still....

It actually started with The Killing Dance, if I remember correctly. I thought the Killing Dance should have been named Danse Macabre because that is when JC's new club was opened. I didn't understand at the time why she didn't name it that, but if she had the new one planned to be named that? who knows.

Oh yeah! I feel silly now. But it would have been amazing if The Killing Dance was actually Danse Macabre.... it just would have been more fitting, and not just because of the club opening. The deadly dance for when Anita was being hunted by assasains.... mmm. Then again, I haven't read DM yet, so if it is a better fit for that novel I wouldn't know. Oh well.

Once she gets pregnant she becomes queen right? So I suspect when she becomes queen she will have to change the rules so she can have loads of consorts, not just the one who gets her pregnant. She loves too many men to just settle for one.

I personally believe Danse Macabre is more fitting for the latest book. The ballet~ Though I must say, I wish she would have focussed more on the dancing than the vamps around her. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, so I'll stop there. @_@
