According to news reports, Christiano da Matta has been seriously injured, and required surgery on a ruptured blood vessel in his head, after his Champ Car stuck a deer while training and testing at Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Da Matta had to have surgery on a subdural hematoma, according to CCWS doctors. He was airlifted to hospital from the crash site, and at last known status, still unconscious as of Thursday night.

I read it in the news paper as well, but little is known about how well this could turn out... we haven't had a serious injury like this in a while. Da Matta will no doubt be out for the rest of the season if he still gets out of this okay.

From what it sounds he might be in a fight to survive, let alone race again... sad

I'm definitely hoping for the best though.

Any more word on his condition?

Christiano has the typical swelling of the brain, as with normal concussion like symptoms, and appears to be healing, but will likely require the rest of the season to recover, from my observations of the articles.
