Right now, I'm in a bit of a fix. gonk
I have a ticket to go with the high schoolers to see Wicked next Wednesday. The guy coordinating the trip gave me permission to go because I'm going into the high school next year and intend on joining the chorus, drama classes, etc, which he also runs.
This is lucky for me, because I get to meet him before the rest of the students...which could prove advantageous. Also you have to consider the fact that it's WICKED we're talking about. heart
This, however, is where the unusual streak of good luck ends and my regular old worst-luck-in-the-world kicks in. See, the thing is, the main official chorus concert is on the same night. And there's NO way I can perform in a concert in Philly and see a show in NYC at the same time. crying And the chorus director will absolutely KILL me if I don't show up. For all I know, I might have a solo...but it's not likely, since I totally killed the audition.
But I think I'm going to see the show and skip the concert, anyway.
Discuss: What you would do in this situation Things you've missed for shows Things you've missed for chorus concerts Really long threads that you probably didn't read Auditions you absolutely murdered but didn't really want the part anyway Etc.

It's Wicked? Screw the concert! Believe me... you will be kicking yourself later if you miss it.
Unless you think you will have another chance at seeing it again. If not... Wicked all the way!

choir teachers talk... so skipping the concert could screw you over big time when you get to HS becase you could get the reputation of not being dependable... i know it's Wicked (just got the CD and it's the only thing i've been listening to since sunday)... but it's proably not going anywhere for a while... so i say go to the concert *ducks* i know the ticket is free... but if you go to The TKTS web page you can sign up for their mailing list and get tickets to shows cheep so you can go see it later because there are trains from Philly to NYC

How about this: if you get a solo, do the concert, but if not, go see Wicked. I know it's like laying out the fleece, but it's probably the best solution.

I don't know how to answer this. Part of me says the show must go on. You're in it, do it. But you say you don't really want to do it. Why did you audition in the first place? Of course, being a theatregoer, I'd go. But if I was in something, I'd be responsible to the company I'm in.
Besides, honestly, I've got the CD to Wicked because I like Stephen Schwartz;s Pippin, but I didn't like the songs in Wicked at all. So I'd pass.

If I were you, I would skip Wicked in a second. Bring that it's important to get a head start regarding your high school performance department, and that Wicked is worth sacrificing for, the most unprofessional thing you can do is skip your performance so you can go to someone else's.
You know, in college sometimes they make people audition for certain shows. When my music teacher was in college, they did this to him. Unfortunately, at the same time he was working on another show, finishing up the final touches he needed to get his degree, and trying to work out his marriage - he really didn't have time to be in another show right then, but his instrcutors said he had to. His friends suggested that he go to the audition and just sing badly (it was for an opera). My teacher is way smarter than that. One of the worst things a performer could do is intentionally do badly at an audition. So this is what he did: He went to the audition, and he did his best, but he left the auditioners (what are they called again? xD) a note saying that he was sorry, but he was going to have to decline any part they give him because his instructors made him audition and he didn't have time to do another show. Though he got in a lot of trouble on campus for the note, he did the right thing.

Personally, I would do the show you auditioned for. I'm a big believer that if you commit to something, unless you die, you should be there. Wicked is, as we all know very well, a great show, but I do think it's more important to take responsibility for your commitments.

After some consideration, I think you actually should go to your performance. Like what has been stated above, Wicked will stick around, but there is only going to be one chance to perform that.

CDAAAH One of the worst things a performer could do is intentionally do badly at an audition. Don't worry, the messing up of the audition was totally by accident.
Eep. That's not usually a good thing...
