It seems like a lot of OCRs (Original Cast Recordings) are coming out this month. I mean, so far I've noticed Spamalot, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Altar Boyz, The Light in the Piaza, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Little Women are coming (or already have come out) this month. Does anyone know the reason why so many are being released now? Did I forget any? Are there any you're looking forward to?

I have a theory on the matter...
They have to get the CDs out before or right around the Tony nominations come out.
From what I understand in the research I had to do on the Tony's for a paper last semester... the voters have a time period in which they have to see all the nominated shows and most musical shows give the voters a little care package from the show. A pretty program, a copy of the cast recording, etc. all on the house. That way, they keep the show in there thoughts when they go to vote.

it makes sense that the recordings would come out, proably a couple from the revivals as well, just so the theatre going public can hear the music from the shows that are nominated

The CD store...iTunes has hardly any Broadway stuff; just the really popular shows like Wicked and Avenue Q and the really old shows. sad

kellyuwga where does everyone buy their stuff from? Since I live in NYC, there's a store called Colony that I get all my Broadway swag from.
Very nifty.

Dude... Colony is like my paradise! I love that store. I have to get something from there everytime I go. Usually a new book.
Locally, Borders has the best cast recording selection, but they are sucky when it comes to restocking and putting new ones out. Takes at LEAST a week for a new recording to make it to the shelf.
FYE is good for recordings that just CAN'T wait. Day after if not day of. That is where I will be tomorrow looking for my DRS cd... which I MUST find tomorrow cus I can't wait any longer for my Norbie rapping!
