Yes Tae Kwon Do used to be only six belts. Lousy picture but I'll use the less broken down one to explain: The Songahm Compass represents the makings of a Black Belt. When you do your form you should notice that you create some type of line or pattern representing a part of the Songahm Compass and return to the point you began. White represents purity or the lack of knowledge. The four colors on the star represent the original four color belts. Each color symbolizes the individual as a beginning to end; the sun nourishing a seedling into a strong healthy tree. Black representing the absorbtion of all the colors or the assimilation of all the knowledge and training of your instructors. EDIT: Nuts, I've been spelling it wrong its "Songahm" not "Songham".

When I was starting Taekwondo, my mom talked to her friend, who's son does Taekwondo.. And she was like, [through e-mail]" Are you going to join the WTF?" I was like.. o_O;; But I later found out that it mean World Taekwondo Federation.. xD

So the topic doesn't just die off (hah not likely right) what are the names of your forms? (I can't find that book at the moment so I'm going by memory and the short names).
In belt order:
Songahm 1 Songahm 2 Songahm 3 Songahm 4 Songahm 5 In Wha 1 In Wha 2 (blue) Choong Jahng 1 (brown) Choong Jahng 2 (red) Sim Jum (1st degree) Jung Yul (2nd degree)
And that's all I know.
