Actually, I do believe that "Latin" refers to not the Spanish language, but the really old Latin language...kind of like Hebrew. It's a religious thing these days, mostly.

Example: W.A. Mozart's "Requiem" (as well as most all Requiems, actually) was written in Latin.

Another example: "Carpe Diem," "Magna c** Laude," and "Veni, Vidi, Vici" are all pretty common Latin phrases.

*end semi-rant*

...sorry, but I'm big into Latin (and Vincent), so I had to say something. wink

I tried, dear god i did, but none of them really fit in anywhere.

Cept Seph, Rufus and Vincent. Seph must have an English accent, same with Rufus and Vincent, but Rufus has gotta have Scottish heritage with hair like that.

Seph has to be at least Japan linked.

Rufus... God knows, English-Germanic?

Cloud: California
Aeris: Ireland/Japan
Barret: New York City
Sephiroth: Ireland/Japan
Cait Sith: England
Cid: England
Zack: California
Reno: California
Rude: Russia
Red XIII: German
Tifa: Florida
Elena: Florida
Rufus: England
Hojo: Japan
Vincent: China
Tseng:China
Yuffie: China

That's just my shot at it.... As for Vincent, Tseng, and Yuffie being Chinese, I think I read somewhere that Vinny was of Wutain descent. And, Wutai was based more off of the Chinese lifestyle than the Japanese. That can be backed up with Yuffie's original costume being a red tint, and that Vincent wears a red cloak, the Chinese colour of good luck. Tseng, he has the slanted eyes, black hair, and is also of Wutain descent.
Aeris and Sephiroth, had to make them both Irish. Aeris has the brown hair and green eyes, while Sephiroth also has green eyes and is rather tall.
Made Reno, Zack, and Cloud Californian just because they seem that way, drunky, carefree, and Emo. Eh...
Tifa and Elena, Florida born because they just remind me of girls in Florida on Spring Break. Smart, but during that week, just crazy and wearing skimpy outfits.... Kyeah right....
Rude just seems Russian to me, cold, silent, and strong.

PostPosted: Wed Aug 02, 2006 10:18 am

you guys have good guesses ^___^ but like I said my guess are based on the origin of there name, and come on Vincent japanese? are you guys f'ing retarded? And Barret is not a american first name, its a last name however.
And by my guess by last name that Cloud Strife is French, just most of the FF8 cast (Squall, Zidane pronounced Zidaan, Zell, Rinoa, and Selphie are all french name's, Seifer is a german name)
