After reading some of the posts, I'm not absolutely sure how well I 'fit in' here. Is being an ATer a problem? i don't look down on anyone for not being an ATer--I just enjoy working on my avatar and consider it like a hobby.

Vamp--An ATer is a person who hangs out in the Avatar Talk subforum and works to make a good avatar.

In my personal opinion you are fine. As long as you don't create your avatar with the effort being on looking more rich, or powerful, than other individuals it isn't really wrong. A lot of Gaia's base is on its avatar, and we can't expect that people wont want their's to look nice. Its just the item horders, and those who buy items for nothing besides their worth, that we are against. Not those who just enjoy dressing their avatar.
If we were against everyone who enjoyed their avatar, then I'm sure they would ban me along with you. xp I love making different outfits too, and I stop by the AT quite often, myself. Its just making sure your intentions are in the right place. You should use your avatar as a way to further your enjoyment of the site, not a way to make yourself seem more important to others. I think you're one of those who is just using it for enjoyment.
Making and avatar that you enjoy and find pleasing is fine.
Making an avatar chalked full of miss-matched expensive items just for the purpose of impressing, or trying to look better than others, is not.
