Does anyone here think she's worth reading? If so, why?

I bought two copies of the Witching Hour (One larger, the other one purse-sized), for very cheap at a thrift store, and I was wondering how many of you liked it? I have many other books to get to, such as Phantom of the Opera and a collection of plays I'd feel bad if I didn't finish, but I was wondering if Anne Rice was worth reading after I finish my current novel?

Personally I can't stand reading her books. Her style of writing just gets on my nerves. A lot of the prose just seems like a pointless waste of space too. I've tried to read her books several times, even picking up Interview with a Vampire twice. I got halfway through one of her books once, but that was only out of the dire desperation for reading material since I had no other book on me at the time and I had an hour to kill.

Yes, I think her books are definately worth reading.

Many people may not realize it, but a few of her stories, such as Interview With a Vampire, have seemed to have melted themselves into society. They're like Shakespeare and Poe; constantly referred to and the like.

I also enjoy her writing. She's very skilled, and I can always picture the plot because she uses detail in such a way that I get a clear picture of everything, but I don't lose interest. When I was done reading a book, I felt like I knew the characters like I knew myself, and like I had been through everything alongside them.

I almost cried because I felt so connected to some of the characters in the Vampire Chronicles when tragedy struck them again and again. She made them very believable creations. I also read parts of her book about Christ as a child, and became very connected with the story. It just seems so...possible...? the way she wrote it.

I have a supreme love and a powerful hate for Anne Rice.
Contradictory, I know.
But nevertheless, I think some works of hers are brilliant where others are significantly less than average.

I recommend the ones with sentimental plots as well as historical value. Pandora and Blood and Gold, for example, are riveting books in my opinion as well as informative. Whenever someone asks about Rice, I recommend those two. I am also a lover of Italy and mythology, both of which are vital to the plot of both stories.

Interview With a Vampire, or any Vampire Chronicles book featuring Lestat as the narrator (as each book is written by a different vampire) lacks originality and prose. I really, really dislike even reading anything about Lestat because Rice overdoes the story. Greatly.

Just an opinion. xD

I've read Interview with a Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and The Queen of the Damned. You realy should read them they are great works of lititure and as someone has said before they have intergrated into our sociaty. I don't know much about her other works but Vampire Chronicals are worth reading.

The Vampire Chronicles are worth reading; at least the earlier ones. There are three books of hers that I would actually recommend: Interview With the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and The Vampire Armand. I suppose that one reason I like her books is my love of history. That probably explains why I don't much like the Mayfair Witch Chronicles, or whatever they're called, in comparison to many of her other books, since they're more modern.

I really enjoyed her Mayfair Witches series. Yes, it is more modern (though it does have a fair amount of historical story-telling in the first book).

But I think what I really love about it is her attention to detail, describing the setting, the characters, everything in the book is written in such a way so that you can SEE exacty what she was picturing.

She does a wonderful job at describing the city of modern day New Orleans, which I enjoy very much being from there. When I get homesick, I can read one of her books and feel back at home.

I loved her books, but I must say that she isn't for everyone.

I just started Memnoch the Devil, and I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on it. Some say it's the worst book while I've heard other people claim it to be their favourite. I suppose I shall find out for myself very soon. 3nodding
Other than mild difficulties getting into certain parts of the books, I must say that I am delighted with her writing. After I finish the Vampire Chronicles, I plan on tackling Violin and maybe even her religious books.

I think she's worth giving a nod to. I'm currently reading through her Vampire Chronicles series- they're kind of unnecessarily wordy in places, but they're good overall.

I haven't given her book Interview With A Vampire a second chance yet.. I read the book and had to force myself through to the near end.. then a friend wanted to borrow it and I was being nice.. Blah blah..
Getting to the point of my posting. Her only novel I read by her was definitely too wordy for it's own good and with all the descriptive language I caught myself day dreaming half the time and having to go back and re read the page.. so there's a little insight.
