She lay sprawled on the crooked arm of a tall, slightly gnarled (but still perfectly good for napping) tree, hidden in the sea of subdued greens. An inpenetrable fortress! The cub stirred, idly twitching a rounded ear as that atrocious cavern of a mouth stretched wide in a yawn, revealing the pearly tips of her canines and a slip of pink tongue. She wriggled among the leafy foliage, pale underbelly fluffing as she gave a great huff of breath. How queenly!

Her paws lay haphazardly to her side, tiny claws flexing absentmindedly. She stared at them through half open eyes, blinking lethargically as she shook off her drowsiness.

Brilliant sunlight poured from above, creating dark patterns against the tree tops. Shadow and light danced along the leopard's tawny coat, which seemed to take on a sheen of sandy gold. There was a constant drone of insects and feathered life in the background, occasionally punctuated by the soft rustle of some small creature or another skulking beneath the shrubbery.

Zephyranthe remained motionless, lounging on the branch with one hind leg dangling. For the time being, she was perfectly content to bask in the warm glow of daylight and to count her spots.

Unlike the other in the area, who Siku had no knowledge of, the young lioness was busy at the hunt, crouched to the underbrush as she stalked along. The scent of that rodent was still nearby, she had it, but something was getting stronger and stronger. Ears perking as she looked around, Siku not only tried to locate her prey, but whatever it was she was smelling now.

Muscles tensed, she raised her head a moment, glancing around to try and see the other creature. Her senses were screaming this animal was nearby, but for some reason, Siku just couldn't find it. This definately wasn't a good position to be in, knowing her body was exposed for all to see. For now, she'd just have to be ready for whatever came, and be able to run if the need arose.

She merely stared rather openly at the young lioness below, who seemed oblivious to the little beast that lounged high above her. Zeph hunched over slightly, deliberating to herself with a wrinkle of the brow.

In one fluid moment, she got to her feet, shaking out the thin layer of fur that covered her sleek frame, and slipped to the ground with little more than a small thump. She landed facing the lion's side, almost uncomfortably close.

"Hello there."

Her head was terribly craned as she peered up at the female; she barely reached chest level and the larger feline could have very easily bowled her over with a single paw. Her voice hovered somewhere between a childish lilt and a lower purr, although it wasn't aggresive in the least. On the contrary, she seemed bemused, even curious, because this was in fact one of the few creatures she had encountered in the jungle.

Tensing at the sudden noise next to her, Siku whirled around to find a small leopard looking up to her, blinking in confusion. Was this the creature who's scent she had picked up? Smiling softly, Siku allowed herself to relax, seeing as the leopard was a bit smaller than she was. If she was unfriendly, which she didn't seem to be at the moment, Siku had the advantage.

"Hello to you, as well." She said calmly, wanting to get to know this leopard somewhat. Perhaps she would not be like Mleli, and not all leopards acted the same. It would be interesting to see.

"I apologize if I have intruded in your territory or home, I was out hunting, and ventured off the path."

Zephyranthe's mouth twitched slightly. Hmmmmmmmmnn ... Her territory ... It was almost a laughable thought. She envisioned herself, pint sized furball as she was, leaping with self-assured disregaurd from tree to tree in all her tyrannical, regal glory! Paws of fury mad

A small hiccup in time passed in pensieve silence before she made her reply.

"Hunting for what?"

That was all.

Her tail came to rest casually at her side as she reclined to her haunches, sitting back as to get a better look at the newcomer.

"Prey." Siku said, thinking back to the small rodent she had been stalking earlier. By now, it was likely clear across the jungle, with no chance she'd recover the lost time. Cursing herself mentally for losing her current meal, Siku watched the small leopard sit down, who apparently was watching her every mood, as well.

The conversation definately wasn't going well, Siku realized. Neither of them were really willing to talk, or give out much to the other. Sighing a bit, Siku tried to think of a way to open the little leopard up a bit more.

"So, if you don't mind my asking, what is your name?" Siku asked, hoping the leopard would be somewhat willing to talk.

"I ...

she inhaled quite a good deal

.. am Zephyranthe! What about yourself?"

Her gaze shifted along the others' ankles, and then swung to the treetops behind her, pupils dialating in the strong light, before those unsettling ruby eyes halted once more to the underside of the lioness's chin.

"Zephyranthe." She repeated, closing her eyes, as if to picture the name in her head. Smiling softly, Siku's bright blue eyes fell onto the young leopard, who couldn't seem to stay still for an instant. Maybe she had been this excited and energetic as a cub, and just didn't remember it.

"I am Siku." Came her reply, now confident in her reply since Zephyranthe didn't seem hostile. That was good, atleast. There was just something upsetting about the creature you met having a grudge against your kind... shaking it off as a personality trait of Mleli, her focus fell back on the leopard.

"I assume this is near your home, Zephryanthe?" She asked, curious to know where exactly leopards resided in the jungle. Were they like lions, that slept on the ground..?

"I go where I please!"

The tiny leopard tensed to her front paws in an attempt to appear larger. She stared at Siku's knees. Terrifying indeed!

"Through the grounds and through the trees ..." she trailed off, thereafter blinking rapidly.

Zephyranthe paused yet again, the rounded tips of her ears swivelling as her mouth pursed in childish thought. With a small heave she returned to all fours, and remained slouched for a moment more.

"How did you get so big?"

She skirted to her left, and then took several steps back, as if to further scrutinize the lion.

"You sound like you enjoy the jungle, then." Siku said, deciding for herself all leopards enjoyed the trees, as Colche had once told her. She was a story teller, after all, the tales must have had some truth behind them. Colche definately would hear of the leopards, and everyone else she'd met in the jungle.

Shaken from her thoughts at the comment on being large, Siku looked down to herself, blinking. She didn't look that big.. did she? Glancing back up to the leopard, Siku smirked.

"I grew with age and experience, I suppose."

Her ankles twitched, and she glanced downwards at the jungle floor, only to come across the wretched backside of a mottled bug, creeping uncomfortably close to her toe.

"Beetle."

She cringed.

She could cope with snakes and turtles with equal apathy, and even those big eyed fish floating around in the neighboring ponds didn't phase her. Hell, she'd take all four paws to the face of any prowling beasty looking for a quick bite.

But beetles.

Ugh, she'd always hated them.

And it was staring at her. She attempted not to look too juvenile in the company of Siku.

But oh, how it stared.

Ooc|| Murf. Sorry this took so long to reply to..

Looking down curiously, Siku watched the floor in confusion, unaware of what was making Zephryanthe so tense. Inspecting closely, her ears perked at the sound of her voice. Beetle. Finally catching sight of the creature, she laughed quietly, shooing the creature with a paw.

"Don't worry, they're harmless." Siku crooned softly, closing her eyes and drawing a deep breath.

"My brother used to torment me with beetles as a cub, you eventually realize they're not that bad." Looking back to her, blue eyes watching longingly, she raised an eyebrow.

"Maybe you'll realize that, too."

The cub couldnt help but recoil as the insect scuttled to the right.

"What are you afraid of then?" she asked prior to a small sneeze.

Zephyranthe didn't think she would ever see a beetle as harmless .. and those flying ones ! As if they weren't ghastly enough without monstro wings jutting from their sides !

Hmmf

She shifted her haunches, as if to compose herself.

"Afraid of?" Siku asked, suprised the leopard was intrested in such things. She had brought it up, though, so it wasn't too unreasonable of a question. Smile fading, her mind drifted to try and think what exactly it was she was afraid of. Gazing away, she sighed.

"..Being hurt by the ones I love." She admitted, realizing the idea of being heartbroken scared her immensely. Mood falling steadily, and unwanting to talk on the subject any more, Siku immidiately changed the subject.

"So, Zephyranthe, do you have family around here?" She asked curiously, glancing around. From her observations, the leopards had been alone, but maybe they had family somewhere? It didn't seem too personal, or, she thought so anyway.

She was still young and inexperienced, despite what she would like to think, and knew little of whatever lied inside the heart. Her mind drifted for only a second longer before Siku's voice came with another question.

"Hmn ..!"

Her head fell along her juvenile shoulders in thought

"I don't think so," she finally mused, rolling her collar to the left.

"Actually, I've been here all by my own for as long as I can remember."

"Someone must have raised me," she reasoned with a wrinkle of her nose, "but I really can't remember!"

It was really strange, now that she came to think of it. She couldn't discern anything from the groggy traces of memory that floated inside her head. Now and then she would see a sudden rush of color, or recall a snip of sound, but really they didn't mean anything at all to her.
