Well then, as far as current events are concerned, it would seem as if the Ukraine's Orange Coalition, which overturned the former bloc-style government, is losing power.

Any thoughts on whether Yanukovich's communist/socialist coalition has a chance at forming a workable government?

There certainly is a lot of money that could be thrown at them, and many trade deals that would come prancing along if they did turn socialist. Not to mention that Russia doesn't much care for the current government- so they'd be a lot better off fiscally with a happy Russia.

And being on good terms with Russia would mean more than just money... there's the petroleum issue as well.

Well Graccvhs, I hate to say it, but it's pretty doubtful to me as wether or not they will be. Really looking the "regions" party, they are just using their leader's soviet career, and your standard petty bourgeois ideology. I mean honestly, if you read a description be it Marx of Lenin of what a democratic petty bourgeois party wants- you'll see it in the party of regions, this left shift is just the rise of the petty bourgeois by way of pressure exerted by the working class upon the major bourgeois.

I will remind everybody here that the Communist party in the Ukraine was at first not affiliated with the party of regions until just recently, I think mainly to oppose the right government from a stronger position, or encourage the petty bourgeois party of regions to be forced further to the left.

well, you said it all really, thats my point.

but the problem i see is that people are just calling for support of the leftists in the elections of whatever country, they do not want the working class to take power.

now i know from here i cant do anything, which is why it is even more important to take a principled political stance, and almost noone does this.

And according to the BBC today, it would seem as if Yushenko has a week to sign the papers to allow Yanukovych to be the new leader. I wonder though at whether Yanukovych will stay true to his socialist ties?

History would say that he will follow concillatory means. That is, he'll try to simply keep the working class as lethargic as possible.

reformists, be they social democrats or ex-stalinist generally do that kind of thing.

The Oranages just promised too much and ended up being as corrupt as the commies. It happens.

they arent corrupt. they are petty letists at best, they have no programe besides making capitalism more humane. i dont know what they say, but their methods of preasuring the petty bourgeoisie to support them, and thus gain power show that 1: they arent socialist, 2: that therefore they cannot help the working class.

It kind of suprised me. These things were going on since March just because Yushenko didn't want to endorse Yanukovich and now he still endorsed him.

Pretty ******** up as well, if Prime Minister and President can't get along. Those things can end up really bad, wich makes the normal people having absolutely no trust in their leaders anymore.
