What are your strageies for fighting in Real Life? Trying to avoid as much as possible or takeing the anicitive (sp) to hit first? I mean wether you like it or not 6/10 times you will have to use your learning of your Art to defend your self or defend someone you care about, any moron can throw a punch or swing wildly so you guys tell me what you would do, punch or kick, knee or elbow etc.

Me, im more of a if I feel threaten or feel like the opponet is going to swing i hit first, mainly with a fast jab to the noses to make their eyes water or a snap kick to the solar plex, while their hunched over two knees and a shot to the face or a kick to the head then I leave.

Try to avoid the situation in the first place and use violence/self-defense as the final alternative.

me... i'll talk to him first... to divert his attention in our convertsation to make him more unaware in my first strike..
then quickly, a "finger jab" in his eye (i'll poke)... then i'll disarm him if he has anyweapons, if tehre are to many then i'll shift to that opponnt then deliver a kicks... (in JKD we study the speed and flexibility, it is our main priority) then hook knee kick to break it off then shift to another enemy with revers hook kick at the jaw... biggrin i'm not bragging about this i can deliver it with just a split of a seconds.. biggrin

I'd try to avoid a situation or end it peacefully first, but if I knew I was in danger I'd hit first and I wouldn't stop until I had time to get the hell out of there.

A valuable piece of advice one of my Sensei's gave me once: Don't let them into their range. In most cases, you probably won't be fighting another experienced martial artist, in which case, you can expect your opponent to try to get close enough to punch you. Simply don't allow it. If he's within kicking range, and threatens you, dispatch him with a kick to the chin, solar plexus, throat, temple...use your imagination. If your enemy can't attack you then you can focus your attack more precisely, and be done with the situation like that.

This is my favorite combo:
They try to move foreward, thrust kick the lead leg (or kick the shin) grad their head and pull downward with a jumping knee to the throat, face.

Arunath my instructor said that we should observe first the situation.. like. hwo many they are, if they are some weapons there.. Really you should be doing that before you realize you need to. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I always know who is around me and how they are acting. I always know where the exits are in a building. I always know what I could possibly use as a weapon if needed. This is when I don't need to fight at all. It's possible that I have issues though that make me like that.

I almost always hit first and I don't take threats well if it is real bad I have my knife. I can't run very well and I go by the saying if you run you will only die tired. Most likely if I was attacked I would kick there legs as much as I could go for a leg break get in close and use my size to over power them and go for elbows, head butts, and other such things. I know how to hurt people real bad but I don't like the idea of holding back if I don't know how far it will go.
If it was life and death I would kill any one who attacked me if it was just some a** who thought he would start something hopefully he goes down easy and stays down. I get out of control in fights and I have hurt people more than I realy ment to. I am always armed in some way I wear steel toed boots and almost always have my knife. Kansas now has concealed carry and I am thinking of geting a license.

I asked my instructor once, "What if they had a knife" he told use to "try" to do an inward block or get out of there. But my art the weapons dont have nunchucks, which i wanna study real hard at so im going to vietnam next years and buy myself 3 and an instruction phamplet. Anywhere I go I'll tuck a nunchuck in my pants.

There's nothing "paranoid" about being aware of your surroundings, all the time. That's simply good practice, and will keep you prepared should such a hostile situation arise. If you constantly feel like you're going to be attacked, however; you probably will. Being paranoid is one thing, but being cautiously calm is entirely more useful. If you're always aware of what's going on, and are able to keep a calm and rational mind, no one's going to sneak up on you.
