This about how Governor Schwarzenagger had proposed we "close" the borders which I think is a great idea because

1. The school systems have to pay for them even though they don't pay taxes
2. They don't pay taxes...
3. They keep America from giving OTHERS the chance to get jobs which is why we have a job DECLINE.

I also know that California is VERY dependent on Illegal Immigrant Labor which keeps it cheap. I would appreciate your opnions on this topic.

Thank you! 3nodding

But we need farm workers.
And who's going to do your dirty nitty-gritty jobs?

This may be a wild idea, but maybe we could hire legal migrants to work the farms and do "nitty-gritty jobs"? After all, they actually followed our rules in coming into this country, and should have first crack at those jobs if they want. Or maybe give some of those jobs to our unemployed?

And what exactly do you mean by nitty-gritty jobs? I remember doing nitty-gritty jobs as a young teenager, but I think we may have two different descriptions of nitty-gritty.

I am for migration, but they have to migrate into this country according to our rules. My family immigrated here legally about one hundred years ago, and it disturbs me that no one wants to enforce legal migration.

your family did it legal and thats all good, but in my town the majority of the population is illegals, they live anywhere from 9-15 people in one and 2 bedroom apartments, take all the jobs and cause our schools education problems. my mom works for the school district and english speaking students are outnumbered.

I don't think we should have kicked Gray Davis out at all. Hey, he sucked, but we could've waited after his term ended.

But back on topic, even if we "closed" the borders, illegal immigrants would still find a way in. :X

Education loses $2 million?
Budget Windfall not enough?

Okay, lets stop this right here and now. Governor Schwarzenegger increased the Education budget by $2 billion (yes, that's a b) from last fiscal year, mostly to cover cost-of-living expenses and growth of student population. Of course, its not the $4 billion promised, but does that promise allow you to sink the economy further into debt? Does that make everyone feel good? Frankly, I will not pay more to a government that has been irresponsable with its spending.

Now, there are tax monkeys in Sacramento who have discovered a $4 billion budget windfall. With that extra money, the governor is able to fund more of the state's bloated demands. With this extra discovered money, we as a state can cut the deficit by about half, the state doesn't have to go into emergency mode by tapping bond initiatives, and *gasp* we can actually start improving our state infrastructure that has been left languishing since the Reagan governorship. Of course he will spend more on education, but will you Schwarzenegger opponents change your opinion of him? That should be the new question.

Oh wait, wait! I know how we can save the education budget! Let's take away that extra $191 million promised to Department of Corrections, or maybe not spend as much on the elderly. So here's the new proposal...Education gets every soiled penny they want, jails continue to rot and release prisoners (wonders if anyone realizes the seriousness of that), let the elderly know just how much our youngest citizens think of them, and still get mediocre education. Good proposal, no?

Here's how the Schwarzenegger ethos goes...if we have the money to provide services - good, if we don't have the funds - scale back spending. That sounds a lot better then spending money we don't have. And if Schwarzenegger does spend a budget that everyone likes, will every anti-Governor voter excuse him of the huge budget deficit during the '06 election? stare
