On the news lately, I noticed that parliament have moved to ban fox hunting with hounds. It has been a subject for debate for a while, but it is now actually disallowed.
I can see that most os the people, even within this guild, will have contrasting opinions as to weather it should have been banned.
A number of hunts are still going to go out this weekend and ride, despite the movement to stop it, as it'll be near impossible to police it.
I personally believe that fox hunting should have remained legal, being somewhat informed on the matter. I noticed that the majority of people against it are from cities or have had no contact with the hunt what so ever, and do not realise the implications of it being banned.
It is not barbaric, foxes are rarely even caught, let alone torn to pieces.
Every last hound, now that it is illegal, will have to be put down. They're hunting dogs and couldn't be put up for adoption, so that's thousands of animals killed. Farriers, hound masters and stable hands will loose Jobs, as there wont be need for them. A lot of the horses will be put down also, the hunt wont have use for them, and no one will buy old horses that need to be worked so hard, riding schools and the such couldn't possibly use horses of this nature.
I'm sure there's many other points I meant to post, but I'm going to be late for college unless I get a move on.
Feel free to post that which you wish.
As a note foxes are my favourite of animals, if I knew they were brutalised, then I'd be against hunting, but I know how it really is, being brought up so near by a hunt, and I strongly support the hunt.

I don't think it should have been banned. I agree with Kit that the people who disagree with it are largely from towns and cities and don't really know what they are talking about. I wouldn't choose to do it myself though. If we hadn't killed off all the wolves that once lived here, they would be preying on the foxes anyway. (my point being that the hound hunts are the closest thing to the natural order of things we are going to get.)

I am pro-hunt personally, this gets me into many arguements. I don't wish to condone cruelty to animals & we have a family of Foxes who live on our estate who I would miss (though not on bin night). But it's a way of life for so many other people and animals. And every time this is mentioned all anyone says is: Quote: But they throw the poor fox to the dogs at the end, it's horrible! I've never seen it happen to know but I've asked and apperently that's not the case. plus I like jodpers & Libertine jackets. *rubs thighs

My dad matches in all sorts of rallys. he lives in a small village and breeds dogs so he get;s invovled with them all. I don't think it should be outlawed, it's not as barbaric as it sounds... foxes are almost as bad as wolves when it comes to raiding farms. Theres loads about where my dad lives, always upsetting the dogs and going for the chickens in the farm. It's not like they are being hunted through the streets, if that was the case they would be hunting rats.... Fox hunting is kept in the wild as a English tradition and a way of keeping an ever increasing population down. They don't throw the fox to the dogs afterwards, sometimes they will get it stuffed and mounted as a trophy or it will just die. It's a tradition created by the former rulers of this country and should still go on. It's like the people who protest agains't animal testing. They fail to understand that the people doing it are the ones who are curing illness' around the world. Apes are the closest living relative we have, so they are most likely going to react the same way. It's a neccesary evil that will save millions around the world.

I was discussing this with some students at the arts institute in my town last night. There were 3 of us who thought it shouldn't have been banned. All three of us knew more about it than those who were for the ban. I don't know too much about it so that is saying something. sweatdrop
One of those who were anti-fox hunting was the kind of person who is anti everything and pro-active but only because it's cool. stressed He did know a little bit about it though. The rest said "but the poor foxes get torn to pieces." as their only arguement. One of the girls was under the impression that they were going to give the foxes the contraceptive pill to control the population (WTF? o.O).
So yeah, only one of them was actually informed enough to have a valid opinion on the subject, the rest didn't know what they were talking about.

Always the same arguement! scream Well it's always been about courting public opinion, which is why they are going to use the Parliment act to force it through the Lords even though said house will reject the bill. Another nail in the coffin of electoral representation scream Ooh lots of screaming. *deep breaths moment

Unfortunately fluffy foxes are much cuter than chinless wonders on horseback with hunting hounds
and yes I do realise that's horrible stereotyping.

The single point you need to point out about them being "torn to pieces" is that, how do animals eat in the wild?
Hunts rarely actually catch foxes, each week a few dozen hunts venture out and will catch maybe 3 or 4 foxes between them, that's hardly any compared to what many people believe. That hundreds of foxes are slaughtered barbarically.
Dogs actually do hunt in packs, or at least they did when England had wild dogs, when the pack caught it's prey they'd eat it, and how else do animals eat that with their teeth. Hunting is more or less finding a fox with dogs, and following them.
You can't possibly say that how an animal is eaten, if at all, is some form of brutal sport, no less brutal than tens of thousands of animals being sawn up and disembowelled for human food.
Unfortunately, fox hunting is much the same as the abortion debate in America, you get just a few ******** that don't know about it, and spread their bullshit amongst other retards. It is up to those that aren't mentally debilitated to educate them.
As a note from now on, just because some people I know complain, when I say retard I do not mean disabled, I mean behind in development or impeded in thought. Basically stupid.
I think that all makes sense. sweatdrop
